5 Mg Klonopin For Opioid Withdrawal, Help Please
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I'm embarrassed so please forgive me. I've been taking 5mg Vicodin for Osteoarthritis for about a month then switched to 5mg Percocet for about another month, 4 times a day. I don't want to take either anymore so I asked to be taken off. My pain Doctor put me on .5mg of khlonopin and now I'm terrified of withdrawals. I haven't had any opioid in over 24 hours. What can I expect? What does khlonopin help with? I'm very scared so any information will be appreciated. Thanks.

You should not have to feel embarrassed about being sick and needing medication.

My grandmother had ostio from the age of 80 to 98 years old she took half a percocet 2x a day. Believe me she was not a drug addict, she was in serious pain.

You may not have many withdrawals. You also have the clonazepam which is great. Since its been 24 hours, did you feel any W/D? You would probably feel it by now. You weren't in Opiates for too long and you tapered down with the percs. Give an update?!

@Momof5,

Sorry to hear about your challenges with osteoarthritis. As far as opioid withdrawals are concerned, the truth is that each individual may react differently based on a variety of factors... But seeing as you've only taken these drugs for 2 months, my personal opinion is that they probably wouldn't be very severe... Although it still seems like it would be wise to discuss tapering options with your doctor "before/if" symptoms become too unbearable (i.e. things like insomnia, low energy, flu-like symptoms, muscle aches, irritability, nausea, vomiting, etc, are all reported to be possible symptoms associated with opioid withdrawal according to NIH.gov). I'd also encourage you to ask your doctor for additional insight on potential withdrawals, especially since he's the one in control of your meds.

Regarding Klonopin, this is a Benzodiazepine class drug marketed for use in treating anxiety, panic attacks and seizures. I don't know how it will affect you overall, but judging from drug's indications I'm thinking that it may help with insomnia, irritability and other psychological things of that nature. However, depending on how long you take Klonopin, it is just one more drug you'd eventually have to taper off of (rather than stop abruptly), if that's what you decide to do - in order to avoid this cycle of taking something else to combat withdrawals that could also cause withdrawals in and of itself. So that's just something to keep in mind as well.

Hope this helps! Does anyone else have feedback to share?
