Hello~I'm on oxy 80's and dilaudid 4mgs which are prescribed for back pain. The oxys alone don't help at all. I get dilaudids tomorrow, but will be out of oxys. Does anyone know if the dilaudid alone will help? Thanks

Re: Jay (# 19)
You mean the 15 mg oxy is way stronger than 2 mg Dilaudid right? Because I know about pain meds and I’m on a lot of oxy for the pain I live with. I’ll be in pain meds for life. I have hiv neuropathy and diabetic neuropathy and neuritis. As well as fibromyalgia. I take 90 mgs of oxy 6 times a day and I take 20 mgs of methadone twice a day. 15 mgs of oxy is a lot stronger than 2 mgs of Dilaudid. I need 3/ 30 mgs of oxycodone to touch my breakthrough pain, 1 30 mg of oxy is stronger than 1/ 8 mg of Dilaudid. The pill form of Dilaudid is so much weaker than the IV form of Dilaudid. The IV Dilaudid I can see being stronger than oxycodone.
Re: bab (# 4)
No way they are stronger.
I know..I've tried them. OXY 80 mg 2 A day & 4 30mg OXY & 3 350mg Soma keep me functional yet still in psome pain. But my spine is severley damaged. Now I have DVT in my left leg..now I need abit more.
15 mg oxy is the same as 2mg diladid if that helps you any
First of all the interthecal pain pump was never designed for drugs other than morphine and backdown. A lot of places that had patients on other meds are cutting them back to one of those to stay within the legal guidelines and avoid legal issues.
I had a pump for almost 14 years, maxed out on morphine and was just about to max out on dilaudid when the hospital took the pump program over and announced they were cutting everyone back to approved drugs only. A lot of patients left. I stayed and just had major back surgery and had my pump out cuz I never liked all the side effects it gives you.
I'm going through hell 1 month removed from surgery but found a good doc that understands my pain needs. Right now I'm on 50 fentyl patch every 72 hours 4mg dilaudid every 4 hours orally for pain.
Find a good doc if possible and get fixed whatever your husbands medical problem is as the pump will only mask the pain and make things worse in the long run!
Fentanyl is 80 times stronger than morphine (20% less strong from heroin)
Have you tried a mom and pop drug store? Some times they will do it before a chain store will.
I will post a reply and say I have no idea. You have a pump like a diabetic has an insulin pump? Never heard of such a thing. Tell me about it. I would like to learn.
If conventional meds aren't working for you, maybe you need a Medtronic pain pump. They implant this pump, it acts like an epudural and transfers the medication to the main pain site using only 1/300th of a dose of medication. The use one of 3 meds in it; morphine, dialudid, and fentanyl. It worked wonders for my situation. If you live in a rural area the likelihood of you getting this is slim if you don't have access to a large metro area. Go to the Medtronic site and look under pain therapy and see if they have a doctor in your area. Best of Luck!
Of course it does depend on the strength of each one. A better answer can be given if the dosage is known.
I'm on 80 mg OxyContin every 12 hours and 30 mg every 4 hours for my post op pain and it still doesn't touch my pain this is my 20th surgery does anyone have any other medication recommendations I can talk to my doc about nothing works and I'm only 24
Your long-acting opiate will not give you an "euphoric" feeling like a short-acting opiate will (Dilaudid). The short-acting opiate is exactly that, short-acting and the body/brain will require the next dose within the next 2 - 4 hours and this will have to occur until "It Sleeps" or you sleep and start all over the next day. Most likely you may feel ill because you don't have enough in your system but it won't be complete withdrawal if you are taking the 4mg Dilaudid in place of the OXY. I will caution you that if you substitute your dosages to compensate for the OXY you will run out of the Dilaudid faster. I am just mentioning it. Caution.
Dude, chick whom ever, get on methadone! No withdrawls and is effective on pain! Although coming off methadone you would kill someone, it is so severe, so you have too taper down real slow!
I've been in both cause I have sickle cell in to me the iv is way better then the pump I rather get all my dose at once where the pump give u lil by lil.
Hi
This seems to be the only post that comes close to my question I am asking do you know or know of someone on the dauldid pain pump and how much difference the affects are from the iv form to the pump form? ?
MY
husband gets hydromorphone 4mg
And can't. Seem to find anyone to fill if for him
The Dilaudid are good for IV use when it comes to ingesting. The Oxycodone is better if you plan just to take orally. Oxycontin is another story all together. Stick with Oxycodone unless you IV your drugs then Dilaudid is best. But you have got to be in pretty bad shape if you have to IV your meds. My doc has me on 6 30's of Oxycodone a day. Its not enough I still have pain issues. What should I do? What at should I ask my doctor? Any suggestions?
the d's will f*** up. they are 8 times stronger then morph
10 MGS - 30 of OC.. but every one is different... diluded didn't work on me but oc did very well until it was changed... ER oc for most of my pain relief is awesome.. added with a little diluded for break through does work.... but every one is different and a lot say the first is stronger.. i don't think so but then again ppl are different my dear you have to try it.. but don't push it
Hey! I sort of figured out the conversion and was taking 30 mg. or more of Dilaudid a day. I continue to be in around the clock pain. I believe I need to take the Oxycontin and Dilaudid in conjunction with one another. Thanks for responding!
How did it work? Did you get any pain relief?
Dilaudid contains the active ingredient Hydromorphone, which is very potent, but if you've been taking 80mgs of the Oxycodone, then you'd need 30mgs of it to be equivalent for analgesia.
