2012 Oxycodone 30mg Shortage In Florida (Page 37)

Updated

My spouse, who is in severe, chronic pain, has been a customer of Walgreens for many years. We live in Pinellas County, Florida. Everyday this week we have driven from Walgreen's to Walgreen's trying to fill his prescription for Roxicodone 30mg, to no avail. I cannot get any help from his regular pharmacy. I know that it's dangerous for them to tell a total stranger which store has them in stock, but I don't understand since they know him, why they can't call around or give us any assistance. I am at a total loss as to what to do & would appreciate any information that you could provide. It is so hard to see him in so much pain. Thank you.

I've read the whole thread and I'm quite troubled with what's going on in Florida right now. I'm from Joplin Mo, and we have kind of a unique situation right now. May 22, 2011 an F5 tornado took out 9200 homes and almost 1000 business. At least 200 people were killed, but the actual number is thought to be much higher. Of the businesses that were destroyed, the majority was Dr offices and clinics. Before the tornado we had a shortage of pain management doctors that was at a near critical level. Now, we have one. I have lupus and RA, and this Dr wanted nothing to do with me as he "only treats patients he can cure". Well isn't that nice. As a result, I drive to St Louis to see a pain management Dr there. It's 12 hours round trip, but there are no options. If at some point my pharmacy has some stupid rule about living in the same county as the Dr's office, I would be in real trouble. I do not, and will not, use Walgreen's. They do not care about the patients, the service is horrible, and I have other options. It scares me that one day the hell you guys in Florida are going thru could be my hell. I'm so sorry for what's happening down there.
I do get funny looks sometimes because of my age and the amount of narcotics prescribed to me. I'm 36, but I do look younger. I don't let it bother me because those who judge would be hard pressed to walk a mile in my shoes. And to the gentleman who is fixated on "pill mills" and "kids" who've never worked a day in their lives I ask you this. How do you know? I didn't ask for this. It was triggered by my pregnancy. Autoimmune is rampant in my family, but I thought I'd lucked out. I was wrong. If I had it to do all over again I wouldn't change a thing. My family is my world, my joy, my life. As of yet, I have been able to make do with Lortab, though I know at some point it will stop working for me. When it does, I certainly hope the gentleman with the fixation steps forward to tell me about myself.
With all the hardships you poor people are facing with pain, a "shortage" of meds, and the treatment you receive by your pharmacies, I can't believe how accepting you have been to those who rant their negativity on a site that is focused on how to fix this broken system. Kudos to you all. I hope and pray that this doesn't spread to other states, though I am very much afraid that it will. Mostly I pray for all of you, that you will find some relief from the pain, and find the strength to battle those who have taken away your quality of life. Good luck to you all, except that one guy:)

your in pain because the morphine 1r 30s are not as strong as the oxycodone 30s. 1 oxycodone 30mg is equal to 45 mgs of morphine orally. At this rate you would need 7.5 morphine ir 30s to replace the 5- 30 mg oxycodones.

Linda, ask your Dr to switch you to Opana 5mgs its comparable strength wise to 10mgs of oxycodone

I heard from someone I haven't spoken to in a long time. They're getting their roxycodone 30 mg from a mail order pharmacy. Figures, this person does a lot of shadycrap, but most of us can't get the roxycodone. The pharmacy has filled my opana for the last 4 months now. When I went to pick them up, a young guy in front of me had 4 prescriptions, the pharmacist said no to him. I realize I'm fortunate at this point. I believe filling roxycodone at any local pharmacy is over for good. God bless

The reason why the abusers can find them & real ppl in pain can't is bc the drug dealers are willing to pay $6 and up per pill every1 is rite no one should have to go to pharmacy to pharmacy all day I use to do that but I found a great solution :-)

What a tease 'DEA SUX' LOL!

Update: After searching for a week. I was able to fill my oxy 15s 180 count. Wound up getting it from a walgreeens location that had twice (this month!) previously said 'I'M NOT COMFORTABLE" BS. Secret: go back when a DIFFERENT pharmacist is on duty. I'mnot a racist but every Asian Wags pharmacist has said 'NO' coincidence? NOV2012

you have the right idea,
this is a direct violation of our rights. This policy of Pharmacies to not carry narcotics, violates the ethical code the doctors take to care for and treat patients. Big difference between addicted and dependent. I've done much research over past several years, CLASS ACTION suite is necessary! I'm on board for the discrimination against the disabled and people in chronic pain. This is discrimination and also violates the ADA.
Class Action law suite needs to be filed against the state of Florida, the DEA for threatening and intimidating doctors and pharmacy professionals to properly care for their patients!

Find a large experienced attorney firm to take this on, and you will have thousands quickly on board with this.

Well, in an attempt to refill my 10/325 perc. script today, I gave up on CVS after trying several locations. All I got was nothing was an extra side of attitude.

The last CVS store I attempted, the pharmacy tech. was a COMPLETE douche to me. Rude as heck. Not sure what his problem was. After being a douche, he said (as usual) that he would have to check if they had it in stock. The pharmacist was on the phone, so he set the script down on the desk and then went to help another customer. Keeping my eye on them, once he was done with that customer, he took a phone call. Then he grabbed the script and said "sorry, we don't have enough to fill it" blah blah blah. he NEVER checked their books or computer to see if they actually had stock.

So, took the script to Wal-Mart where they politely, and quickly filled my script.

CVS has lost me as a customer. NEVER AGAIN.

cvs SUX- well your story is same as mine sort of. cvs sux bottom line. the girl treated me like a druggy and said no then the pharmacist asked to see the rx. he filled it(august) so that cvs counter girl just looked and said no without even really checking with pharmacist.
i went back the next month to cvs and another ne wpharmacist was there and he didnt fill or even check his books. and the guy was a terrorist looking guy too.
he looked like he was ready to blow his entire store up.

@hollyweird, as u can see, this thread is months old. I doubt you'll be able to fill roxycodone anywhere in Fl. Forget CVS and Walgreens, your best bet is a mom and pop pharmacy, if they have them and IF they're willing to take you as a new patient. The pharmacists are scared to go near that drug. There's no money in it, and with all the druggies, robberies and all the trouble it causes, they don't want to deal with it. Here's what I've learned since last may, the last time I was able to fill roxycodone. ( it's already in this in this thread). The pharmacy can only fill a.certain percentage of narcotics in their records balanced with all other meds. If they go over that percentage, the dea will crack down on them. This is the main reason they won't take new patients. They will only help customers who fill all their meds with them. My pharmacist told me flat out 2 months ago that it doesn't look good I'm only giving him 1 prescription for a narcotic. Every month I'm a wreck if they will fill my opana for me. I also am prescribed a muscle relaxer to help me and balance out the narcotic. That means he's filling 50% narcotic and 50% non narcotic for me. If I get sick and need any other meds, I will fill there too. I explained to them I have a mail order pharmacy for my other meds. They did;n't like that, but I don't have to pay for the 6 other non narcotic meds I'm prescribed. A lot of pharmacies also want to see a long and short acting pain medication, not just a short acting like roxycodone 30 mg ir. It looks bad for them in their system. If I were you, and most of us here have had to do it, you will have no choice but to find an alternative medication. Believe me, I'm not happy I had to switch bc the roxycodone helped me a great deal. I have more pain, nausea sleepiness and empty pockets bc of this nightmare. Take the time and read the whole thread, so many of us are in the same boat. We're legit chronic pain patients, and we can't get the ONE med that helped.us most. My apologies to all that I'm a broken record repeating myself. God bless and peace to most of you.

2 Walgreens.. 1 in Pompano the other Deerfield. Yes, sometimes I have to wait a few days but there's usually no problem. Today filled Roxy 15s and OxyContin 40s w/ no problems. The pharmacist tells me no 30s that's why I get the 40s. Dont understand all the problems most of you all are having. w/ ins. both scripts cost 47 $
