2012 Oxycodone 30mg Shortage In Florida (Page 29)

My spouse, who is in severe, chronic pain, has been a customer of Walgreens for many years. We live in Pinellas County, Florida. Everyday this week we have driven from Walgreen's to Walgreen's trying to fill his prescription for Roxicodone 30mg, to no avail. I cannot get any help from his regular pharmacy. I know that it's dangerous for them to tell a total stranger which store has them in stock, but I don't understand since they know him, why they can't call around or give us any assistance. I am at a total loss as to what to do & would appreciate any information that you could provide. It is so hard to see him in so much pain. Thank you.

Elinor, I am merely trying to offer some encouragement and maybe something that might work for a couple of people reading this. I am with you guys and saw what the DEA was doing to intimidate my doc and how that was effecting my life. I know you guys are suffering and wish everyone the best.

The rally was great. Lots of good media coverage and can keep in touch with reporters. Someone from the Governors office also came down to talk with us. Now, it is on to rallies at the DEA offices all over this state.

Is anyone interested in trying something healthy? I too have chronic pain for the last 12 years, but have been on methadone 60mg/day, plus percocet 10 4x/day, (they recently switched me to Opana IR due to the shortage, plus baclofen and neurontin and amytriptilline. I've had 3 back surgeries. I learned of a company that has a line of products/supplements that do amazing things for healing and pain relief. Thru them I'm now weaning down my meds. got my methadone down to half, and neurontin dropping along with 1/2 the amytriptilline so far. and started having severe teeth pain that I need a lot of work done. When I mentioned to the nurse practitioner how sick I am of the meds, having no energy, no appetite. I feel like an awful wife and mother, and lost my nursing career due to pain, and being on these meds. I told her my teeth were falling apart. Her comment was "well that's not a surprise, methadone and these pain meds often cause dental problems" HELLO, U COULDA WARNED ME!.

I can trace back 20 years to when I got pregnant with my son. that's when the back pain started, along with muscle spasms and 4 cavities. Had surgery when my son was 10 mos old, they thought due to spondylolisthesis. Had a fusion and laminectomy at L5S1, was still in pain after the surgery, nothing really improved, just a different back pain, then I got pregnant with my daughter 3 mos after the surgery, so no xrays to find the cause. Got 4 more cavities with that pregnancy was totally pain free after I had her for 2 years, but in that time developed migraines and high blood pressure. We moved to FL and I was working at the hospital, and while charting at the end of my shift the pain started again, only worse. We tried PT, injections, chiropractic to no avail. They found my back wasn't fused just scar tissue (the bone didn't harden to fuse) meanwhile I was on Duragesic patches, down to 89#, so sick from the meds. Ended up having 2 more surgeries, one in the back was going to use plates and screws, but I was so thin there was no room, then fused me thru the front. Anyway eventually ended up going back to work, the pain not totally gone, but better until I lifted a kid at work in an emergency. So all these surgeries not better. They treated symptoms, never addressed the cause. All of MY symptoms--low back pain/back pain, muscle spasms, high blood pressure, migraines, receding gums and cavities, are ALL signs of a chronic calcium deficiency. Had MD's been educated on medical nutrition, addressed diet at any point, had MD's been educated to do ANYTHING other than do surgery and prescribe meds (because that's all they're taught, what tests to order for each symptom and what pharmaceutical to prescribe to SQUASH the symptom) it's like cutting the wire on the warning light in your car, we're not addressing the cause. Doc's are not trained to prevent disease, or HEAL us, just how to manage us. Anyway here is a video, regardless of the cause of your pain, you still probably like me have rampant inflammation all over our body from meds, diet and more.. I"M trying to get healthy, give the body what it needs and it will do amazing things. Arthritis is totally reversible (but MD's don't believe it they'll just give you a new knee or shoulder) The body can't repair if all we feed it is anti-inflammatories, cortisone/prednisone and pain meds. However if we consume the building blocks,and natural anti-inflammatories,and things to decrease overall inflammation, amazing things will happen. Meds don't address the root CAUSE of the pain. You know it makes me so mad to hear how a pharmacist doesn't have to fill if they don't want to.Yes they have that right but they are supposed to fill legitimate scripts.Not play God and games and not fill because they judge someone or choose to fill only for people they know.And Walgreens backs them up 100 percent.Try calling and complain about one .We need some new pharmacies in florida.I watched someone fill right in front of me the other day.They knew his name.As I crawled out of the store I was so mad and frustrated I couldn't help crying as I left .If my doctor checks out who are they to not like a pain clinic.Some are good.They are so strict where I go but I think all pain clinics have a bad name now which isn't right.It seems like everyone is against us pain patients.We need to stand together.Maybe we should start wearing ribbons for the blood and tears we spend living in chronic pain.Then everyone could see how many of us there are out there.What color isn't taken?Is there one?

15mgs Oxy are easier to fill than 30mgs at Walgreens anyway. My hubby has been having problems since Jan getting his meds filled like the rest of you.He is switching
meds next month like so many are doing too stressful..

If you are in PinellasCo.
BAYLIFE Pharmacy will fill IF they have them, it was $4 a pill...
WALGREENS on Gulfview Blvd,Clwtr Bch ask only for Monica or Stacie(you need to call daily for the truck delivery) they are a small RX so they do get them in often..just got to catch that truck lol

If you are desperate and have the cash or insurance.. TRINITY also has Oxy's a lot of times but last time I checked they were $6 a pill...

Trust me .. this does NOTHING .. when it comes to opioids .. even the Mail Options for med's in this category is being denied now. Many ins.co's and/or pharmacies are no longer offering this option ... due to.. NO OTHER THAN THE .... D.E.A. !!!

tater said it right on the head. bottom line..all of us real legit chronic pain patients will have to suffer throughout our lives until all the above mentioned problems are solved...meanwhile we suffer thanx to all the junkies and drug dealers making a fortune off the dea and govt. bas there putting us through.
im hearing in 2013, no more oxycodone as we know it period. the few companies left making the oxies arent wanting to be put through all this bs and their profits are going down cause noone can fill the scripts...

The pill mills are now charging 140 to 270 a month for people to get methadone an morphine,If your a person with real chronic pain your primary Doctor will give you pain meds an then send you to a real pain clinic,the only ones that are using pill mills are junkies who know a MRI will not show nothing wrong with them,When this State gets a DEA or goverment in it that will close every Pill mill us real chronic pain paients may have a chance to get our Meds,Have to weed out the young punk addicts who thinks getting High is the way of life,Not like its suppose to be not working or paying support for there children an just thinking everyone owes them a Free living,If you have never been in a bad Wreck or fall or Have not worked your Entire life to have your back an neck go bad then you have no business on oxycodones or oxycottins,when there are DEA an Goverment agents if they have family members in chronic pain then they would know that they need there meds to be able to get up each day,when there own kids take them they hide it cause they think there going to make them look bad,meanwhile they continue to let pill mills stay open,when if they would have closed them down before an never let them open they wouldnt have to worry about a shortage of pills for real chronic paients,People coming from all other states to go to them an get pills to take back to other states an sale for money just as there doing is getting rich for writting a piece of paper an ruining young kids life while there at it,they could care less if they give a young kid pills an he or she drops Dead from over dosing,they have them waiting in line,When the DEA an goverment close every pill mill they are then an only then will it change the State of floridas problems,closing plants an pharmacies telling you they have none isnt going to do nothing but cause there employies to get Killed an robbed,There doing nothing but making it more Dangerous to work behind a pharmacy counter,

A year ago i paid $13 each in orlando area and i thought that was bad. Now everywhere its $20, $25, $30. When i find them for $18 im stoked. Ridiculous. Ive had to buy some from a friend for emergencies but luckily ive got it down into a routine and have been lasting my 28 days. Price gougers!

good info...thanx. never thought of cold water extraction but will give it a try. the tylenol makes me sick and its not good for the body.
thanx for the good info. i knew all of that for the most part and now it makes sense why the dr wont write any percocets over 120..makes sense now that the pharmacies just wont fill it. will check out cold water extraction as with 4 10mg percocets a day, the only time i have minumal pain is when i wake up out of bed, then im out of my 4 daily percocets after that with nothing except what i can afford from the neighborhood drug dealer who is loving all the lack of competition charging 30-40$ dollars for a 30mg oxycodone when it was 20$ 2 months ago...way to go dea, make the drug dealers happy, and making more money and in the process leaving us chronic pain patients to be at the mercy of living in pain or buying the drugs illegally in order to not be in pain.

Hello everyone! Wanted to Pass on some filling tips. I live in the orlando/altamonte area and my daughter just got a pharmacy tech job at the walgreens in altamonte springs. I learned some things and thought id share. There are alot of rumors circulating about walgreens. First of all, if anyone tells you "corporate said..." thats a lie. Corporate offices set loose guidelines but really it varies from store to store based on the pharmacist's discretion. They run each store's pharmacy dept separately and they fill what they want. They have the right to refuse anyone for any reason. Also, most central fl walgreens (the altamonte 436 one for sure) has a strict 120 fill max. Does not matter the strength - they wont fill a script of more than 120 oxy IR scripts. Also, they prefer family practice dr's. NOT PM. They gossip about pain management being a dirty illegitimate business. They know anyone can walk in, say they are in pain, and get a script. They know if your doctor has a reputation for being a pill mill and will tell you "we are out" to protect elderly and loyal customers. Walgreens stores in Tallahassee (like one on Ocala rd and tenn st) will not fill any PM scripts. Also, try to develop a relationship with one walgreens. They will start making sure you always have your meds. Never drop off your oxy with any controlled substance (xanax, morphine, etc). Drop it off alone or with something non narcotic like birth control or antibiotics. Daughter says they are more likely to tell people they are out of the meds who fill multiple narcotics together.

I also wanted to add, that those with chronic pain should consider long term opiates. Or if yoh really prefer oxycodone, and cant fill, switch to percocet 10s and do a process called cold filter extraction. Google it. Basically if you rubber band a coffee filter over a mug, crush up the percocets and mix them with near freezing water and pour it through the coffee filter, the tylenol and fillers will sit on top of the filter leaving a mug full of pure oxy. That way you can take 30-60mg of oxycodone without all the tylenol associated with it. And it works well. Ive done it in the past. Oxycodone dissolves in cold water but acetaminophen needs hot water to dissolve.

AGREED. these doctors see the med syou are on and then for a pain doctor to offer some percocet when youve been taking 150mg-320mg oxycodone for pain a day its laughable...and oh yes, lets kill his liver while in the process. these doctors should all get a new profession like a family doctor cause they are not helping chronic pain patients out with their 10/325 percocets...what a freaking joke.

dont you think chris that we probably already did this...im sorry your only trying to help but this is frustrating man, but yes ive called, the few insurance companies left that still are doing mal order are about to all stop mail orders due to pressure from the dea. blue cross is next on the do not mail list. my buddy gets his mailed for years now and they said jan 2013, all schedule 2 mail orders will stop from the few companies still doing it and they arent taking any new patients for mail rx. so in short...yes weve called insurance companies, walgreens headquarters with them all standing with each other stating it has no longer become "PROFITABLE" OBTAINING THESE SCHEDULE 2 DRUGS AND WITH ALL THE CRIME, THE PRICES KEEP GOING UP AND WE JUST CANT AFFORD TO BE IN THE SCHEDULE 2 BUSINESS ANYMORE."
AND HE SAID, "YOUR DOCTOR OFFICE SHOULD HAVE A NETWORK ALREADY SET UP WITH A LOCAL PHARMACY TO HELP YOU. WHEN I TOLD HIM THE LOCAL WALGREENS GIVE THE RUN A ROUND, AND JUST SEND YOU T ANOTHER WALGREENS WITH STATEMENTS LIKE"SORRY WE ONLY HAVE 15 OF THESE" OR"WE DONT CARRY THOSE ANYMORE" "OR YOU NEED TO GO TO THE WALGREENS IN YOUR ZIPCODE"-NOT EVEN THE SAME CITY-SAME ZIPCODE...I HAD TO LAUGH AND SAID MAD TO THEM...YOU ALL JUST EACH MAKE UP YOUR OWN RULES CAUSE NOT ONE OF YOU MANAGERS HAS THE SAME STORY...EVERYONES DIFFERENT. AND THERES NO DEA LAW THAT YOU CANT FILL OUT OF TOWN SCRIPTS...MY NEIGHBOR TOWN DID IT LAST MONTH. LIKE I SAID, UNFORTUNATLY, IT MAY BE EASIER TO BUY THEM ILLEGALLY THEN TO BUY THEM FROM A DOCTOR/PHARMACY, AND LEGALLY.. AND YOU DONT HAVE THE HASSLE. NOW THERE GETTING PEOPLE HOOKED ON DILAUDID INSTEAD OF THE OXYCODONE AND TO ME THIS DRUG IS EVEN WORSE THAN OXYCODONE AND WORST ABUSE POTENTIAL TOO. BUT IT WILL TAKE SEVERAL THOUSAND DEATHS TO MAKE ANY CHANGE AND ADMIT THEEY WERE WRONG. I HOPE RICK SCOTTS FAMILY AND MS BONDI FAMILY HAVE A OD IN THEIR FAMILY FROM DRUGS SPECIFICALLY THEM TRYING TO GET THE DRUGS PRESCRIBED TO THEM BUT COULDNT SO THEY HAD TO GOTO THE STREET TO SCORE SOMETHING TO HELP THEM WITH THE PAIN THERE IN...JUST THEN, POISONED AND THEY OD...MAYBE THEN THEY WOULD HAVE A CLUE WHATS REALLY GOING ON OUT THERE...I MEAN WHY DO THE DRUG DEALERS STILL HAVE THIR OXIES? WHY DONT WE LEGIT PATIENTS HAVE OURS? I cant stand Dr.s like that who just lump everyone together and think perc 10s will be sufice for someone who has a sore leg or 10 herniated discs.. I would tell that Dr. To get a clue an have a nice life... that's just awful if he won't prescribe roxis or dialaudid well then he's only prescribing loracet or percucet which is nutts for somebody in severe pain

couldnt have said it better...until the dea had their dody blown up and they are living in pain will they only then understand. i wish they were all gone and dont care how...torture...whatever, these lawmakers suck and need to vote new people in. make them hurt like we do and see how they like it...cmon where are you crazies now...take this advise and run with it go do something drastic and help us injured people while in the process.
