2012 Oxycodone 30mg Shortage In Florida (Page 23)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

My spouse, who is in severe, chronic pain, has been a customer of Walgreens for many years. We live in Pinellas County, Florida. Everyday this week we have driven from Walgreen's to Walgreen's trying to fill his prescription for Roxicodone 30mg, to no avail. I cannot get any help from his regular pharmacy. I know that it's dangerous for them to tell a total stranger which store has them in stock, but I don't understand since they know him, why they can't call around or give us any assistance. I am at a total loss as to what to do & would appreciate any information that you could provide. It is so hard to see him in so much pain. Thank you.

@Howie... The distribution center in Jupiter was the only one restricted... it supplied all of FL and some of GA.

I know of no one getting 240 as there is a restriction of 180 per 30 days.

The "pill mills" are pretty much shut down.... each legitimate PMC has a $100,000.00 bond and are inspected by the DEA. Each patient must have an MRI on file no more than 2 years old and can only be accepted if referred by a PCP. It is not all that easy to get into a PMC in Fl nowadays.

My info comes from articles in the Tampa and Orlando newspapers and other web related articles... and personal experience... conversations with a member of the Florida Board of Pharmacy and its Executive Director.

Your info is incorrect and more of a rant. The DEA is only indirectly responsible... it is misinformation and fear that has caused this "shortage".

You can get the Oxy 30 and Methadone because I have.

although maybe I miss read your post. however the DEA is responsible for the shortage because they've also shut down to other distribution centers in Florida besides walgreens distribution center in Jupiter. that is why all of the pharmacies are having a difficult I'm filling prescriptions here in Florida. if you go to another state they don't have the same problems we are having.

actually your information is not true because a few of the Walgreens here in Pasco County have been visited by the DEA and they also lost their ability to distribute C2 narcotics.

the DEA is the reason for all the shortage because they allow pill mills to remain open-if it wasnt for pill mills handing out 240 30mg oxycodone to everyone that walked in there office there would be no problem right now,has long as they continue to allow them stay open soon you wont be getting no pain meds of any type in this worthless State cause they allow the pill mills to remain open,Florida Should be like the rest of the States they wont allow them to open to feed Drugs to these young kids,F DEA workers Have no brains at all,They close pharmacies for handing out to many pills an its the pill mills that is writting them,no regular Doctor or real Pain clinic will give them no 240 a month along with 60 oxycotins,So until the so Called DEA office closes them Down this State will go under an no one will be able to get nothing within the next 6 months,Hell I cannot even get Opanas

The red flagged Walgreen's were in Sanford and Houston, Fl.... mine is in Orlando and they can sell them if they can find a source.
I have had the same pharmacist for over 10 years... she is not lying to me.
The DEA has nothing to do with the "shortage" other than the fear they impose on the individual pharmacy. The Pharmacists are self regulating to stay under the radar.
Meanwhile, we are suffering!!!

All you Floridians need to go to flsenate.gov/senators/find and type in your zip code. This will give you the names of your Florida State Senator and Florida State House Representative. Then take a out a piece of paper and write them a letter. Be polite, but get your point across.

Not true. Some Walgreens were red flagged and THEY cant sell them until investigation is over, but not all of them were missing thousands of pills!

I tried morphine sulfate before and it did Nothing for me. I tried dilauded like I said about 5 yrs ago and had an allergic reaction. The same thing happened with Opana. My pharmacy said they never have Opana...so I'm not gonna even try the rat race again trying to find a pharmacy that does. Figured I would give something another try because All of us know....Something is better than Nothing when you have chronic pain. I go to the DR 2morrow and will have my percs d/c and probably go with the dilauded again and see what happens. The percs hurt my stomach as I can't tolerate too much Tylenol because I have a bleeding ulcer as well. U would think I am 91...Not...31. It's Life....what can 1 do but TRY to make it work!! Thanks for the help :)

Panicnpain... It's been awhile... Hope ur doing well.
After over 8 yrs being on 30's (needed for chronic pain), as some of u on here are familiar with my history, my Dr suddenly cut my 30's to 15's, saying that he's doing to all, unless they have cancer. 2 weeks after he decreased my dose, (on top of all my other major medical issues), I was brought to ER for an emergency "complete" bowel obstruction, and after 10 days in hosp, 25 staples, and the additional pain that came with
it, I'm suffering ridiculously. I've been on numerous pain meds, one of which were the 30 mg Roxicodone, for going on 9 yrs. But for this Dr., who I've only been seeing for about 10 mths (due to a recent move), to decrease my dose because he feels "strong-armed" by DEA, is obsurd! I need to find another Dr in the
Sarasota area that isn't chicken s*** to still write for 30's. I have no problem filling them (usually), because of my medical history, but Icant fathom that this Dr would simply cut my meds (along with all his other patients, who dont have "cancer" ), in HALF !!! I'm guessing that maybe he's been "over-prescribing" or some other s***, and now he's trying to drastically cut back do he doesn't lose his practice. Can anyone
suggest a Legitimate Pain Dr in the area?? If so, I would greatly appreciate. Thanks

@mouth, I tried morphine 30 mg ir 's. Didn't work for me at all. Dilaudid would probably work better. Look at drug conversion sites on the web. That's your best source of trying to get med that's closest to what you were taking. I know you were taking roxycodone 30mg ir. People like to ns, but the conversion charts give the best info. Went to my Dr today, I told him the opana is so expensive, said he would switch me to dilaudid or morphine, or back to the roxycodone. At least he takes the time with me, and offers what he and I would work best. I was on a dilaudid pump in hospital from surgery, and it made me nauseous as hell. The morphine did nothing for pain but made me nauseous too. I'm very limited as to what I can tolerate too. He was shocked with insurance how expensive the opana is. Thanks dea, fda and the whole system for screwing legit cpp.

Talked to my Walgreen Pharmacist today and she said they were trying to get the C2s from another source besides the Jupiter distribution center. She will let me know if they are successful... been going there for over 10 years.

what a joke, i went to my appt. today and he wont write anything above a 10/325 percocet. no dilaudid no morphine, no oxycodone 15 or 30.
so im looking for a new doctor. i get the script and for the 3rd month trying to goto same cvs...they have different pharmacist now he said no(to 10mg percocets) not even the roxies or anything like that and 12 pharmacies all said no so just got back from my publix and thought hey how can it hurt to try here too. low and behold he filled it and had no problem and said it be better to use 1 pharmacy so i agreed and explained the problem we all are having and he said he will order and have for me on monthly basis.(at least 10mg oxy will get me out of bed taking 3 in the am and the last one per day around noon and suffer the rest of the night, etc.
i told him im in so much pain i smoked weed this month and he didnt say anything to me about it one way or another.
so until i find a doctor to write me the strength meds i need i am stuck with these 10 mg percs. better than nothing but tired of feeling like s*** for 16 hours of the day. anyone know a doctor in indian river or st lucie county plz email me. xxxxx@xxx {edited for privacy}
ive been shot and 40 plus pieces of shapnel and titanium plates from my c7 c6 c5 c4 c3 and jaw(left) so i am very legit with plenty of records. thanx

Thanks Dan. I have been going to PM for about 8yrs now. I have tried just about Every pain reliever there is...I had to take myself off the roxys. Jan 4th was the last time I was able to fill them. I went on methadone which I really did NOT want to do...but I am allergic to A lot of meds. Dilaudid happens to be 1 of them that I had an allergic reaction to about 5yrs ago..but I'm willing to give it another try being the percs I have for break through pain are just Not working for me. I got to a mom & pops pharmacy..never even messed with cvs or walgreens. The pharmacy I go to said they are no longer filling above 90 percs a month because it has codiene in it. I know 90 pills won't last me a month. I have never abused my meds...crushed..snorted..injected anything ever. That's just not me. I just want to function and be able to take care of my kids. I applied for SSD back in Dec 2010 and still playing the waiting game. I have a decent DR out here..it is a clinic and they don't do the injections or anything like that which is ok with me because I have already had over 70 injections which gave me NO relief. That was with my DR in NY. I suffer from multiple injurys to my back along with horrible everyday migraines and nerve damage to my entire right side. I have gained 30lbs since January because I just don't have the relief I need to do some of the things I use to do. Bike riding for me was Very theraputic..but...that is no longer a option. The added weight is only making it that much harder on everything as well. Good luck to U. I know U are looking for a new DR..I live in Brandon...but go to a DR in Lakeland cause I hate the pill mills in Tampa. Best of luck to U

No Walgreen's in the state can sell any C2 narcotics due to the DEA suspending distribution from their Jupiter, FL distribution center. You may be able to find a small independent pharmacy that will sell them, however most are not taking new patients and reserving what they have for regular customers... They will tell you they are out or they are on "back order".... which is probably a lie.
All pharmacists are being cautious due to the crackdown by the DEA on ones who have a high distribution record.
Contact your district Representative or Senator to complain.... I have.

FIGHT for your country, get shot in your face, have multiple jaw and spine/neck surgeries and tell me that im giving up for disability...its called IM IN PAIN SEARCHING FOR ANOTHER DR,. Just because my mom can run me around looking for a doctor doesnt make me not need my meds. i was once like you able to get to work and take my meds and was fine until my neck from the gunshot caved on my spinal cord leaving me disabled. geesh, cmon man.

DILAUDID is 6-8 more potent than morphine.
8mg dilaudid is equal to 15mg oxycodone roughly. 12mg dilaudid equald 30mg oxycodone approx.
morphine sux and never worked for me in er and instant relief. get the dilaudid as this has up to 65% bioavailability where morphine has only 10% bioavailability when swallowing thus making dilaudid much better as a tablet than morphine. iv they are same 100% bioavailabilty. hope this helps.

I went to CVS today an walgrens an they said they didnt have the opana 40mg after I told my new pain Doctor to write them for me,I got the 10mg oxycodones filled-He wrote it for percosets 10/325 an they filled them but said they dont carry the Opana so now I have to find somewhere to get them,I got steriod shots last wednesday that helped some for 2 days until I put my grand daughters new swing set up an then couldnt get out of bed friday,it sucks to have pain like that,he set me up for thursday to get the electronic wave s*** whatever they call it,He said it blocks the nerves an would last for up to a year or more,But I am not holding my breath for that,My wife I paid 700.00 for her to have it done on her back an it Didnt help a bit, after 2 sets of steriod shots in her back at 350 a pop he said since they worked the electronic s*** would yea right, the steriod shots lasted one Day an to him thats working,to me if you get a steriod shot an it only last one day means you have bigger problems,But I will try it my insurance will pay for it,It would be a gift if I could get one year of relief an be able to get out of my bed an do something besides laying in bed in pain cause of this States DEA office leaving the pill mills open,When there is not one other state that allows pill mills,Leave it to the Retard that work for the Suppose to be the Sun Shine State,Sun Shine State my ass, they have a bunch of Rejects working for them

If you guys can stand the pain because your sick of running around then you dont need them in the first place, Pain Management is for those who CANT stand the pain , i am one of them and i will run around or whatever so i can work and have a life and not be on disability. The DEA loves you who give up, thats what they are going for.
