2012 Oxycodone 30mg Shortage In Florida (Page 22)

My spouse, who is in severe, chronic pain, has been a customer of Walgreens for many years. We live in Pinellas County, Florida. Everyday this week we have driven from Walgreen's to Walgreen's trying to fill his prescription for Roxicodone 30mg, to no avail. I cannot get any help from his regular pharmacy. I know that it's dangerous for them to tell a total stranger which store has them in stock, but I don't understand since they know him, why they can't call around or give us any assistance. I am at a total loss as to what to do & would appreciate any information that you could provide. It is so hard to see him in so much pain. Thank you.
Scared in WPB Fl: for the last 3 weeks, I've been reading post after post concerning the DEA and the scare tactics they're imposing on the doctors and pharmacists. Like most of you I have had surgeries and multiple problems going back many years. I take 6 oxys a day and it has been the only thing that helps. My doctor appointment is coming up on the 10th and I'm afraid of what may happen when I get to my walgreen pharmacy. I've never had a problem before and my wife and I have all our medications with them. Usually I wait for the scripts to be filled as the pharmacist know I don't drive to often. I've explained to my wife what is going on in regards to the oxy problem; she thinks I'm over reacting and will have no problem filling it. Her words were "if we have to drive to Georgia to get them, we will" I tried to explain how it all works with area verses doctor office or home to get a script filled, her answer was then we'll put you in the hospital to get your meds. I told her they won't do that as there is crack down there as well. Her answer was it's inhumane to do this and I shouldn't get myself all worked up. I just needed to tell someone, so here I am. So, am I getting myself all worked up over nothing? Sincerely Brian
YOU ARE A LUCKY SOB IF YOUR GETTING ROXY FILLED FOR 100, U BETTER TAKE THEM AND RUN!!!!!!
yes very depressing about ssi. disability is going to barely pay bills and will not cover the roxies starting 2013. so since like you either the roxies work well for me and are affordable or dilaudid 8-12mg every 4-6 hours works also and this med is covered under medicaid but the doctor writing the script wont write it under medicaid doctors so you will have to find a way to pay the monthly doctor visit cash-talk to him and he may charge less. and then take the rx to get filled using medicaid and or you medicare rx plus coverage. im about to go through all this ssi crap but am lucky to have family and military footing the bill for my pain management doctor visits and pain meds paid for. i am recently having the problem of finding a doctor to give me the roxies or dilaudid at this time which is obsurd with all the metal and multiple surgeries ive had and almost all the pharmacies treat you like an addict.
I've heard you need more than 1 narcotic script to fill, I found that out month's ago when Walgreens started their games and when I had script for roxycodone and flexeril, the pharmacist said " you sure you want to separate these 2 prescriptions? Like an idiot, said what's the difference? Only said thats your decision. Sc*wed myself and that's when no one would fill the roxycodone alone. Even this pharmacist who filled the last 2 months told me last month, this 1 script doesn't look good. This month thank God I was due for new script for flexeril so he was fine with it yesterday. ( opana and flexeril). I asked the Dr about this, and again, the pharmacists need to show % of narcotics vs non- narcotics quota. Like my Dr said, they're supposed to serve the public, and a Drs prescription should be sufficient for them to fill what a Dr prescribed. The whoever is breathing down Dr and pharmacists neck, they're afraid they'll lose their license to dispense. It's all a nightmare, and even @ drs office yesterday, some punk tattooed young guy is on his cell, making his deals right outside drs office. Pisses me off, bc it's obvious he selling them and probably gettin his " roxies" no problem, while most of us legit cpp are swinging in the breeze, not able to get the 1 med that helped more than all these other drugs that are costing a fortune. I can't keep paying 100 for 1 medication, I'm going to have to come off of this med. This month bc it has 5 wks in it, I'm double scr**ed. Bad enough living on ssd, and even the copay is ridiculous. Sick of it, and now after my bills and taking out dr copay for end.of month and another 100 for med, I'm left with $30 for the month. So ready to give up on it all. God bless
reply to Mickey.... see post 583 & 611. I know that it still does not help your husband right now in what he is going through (and I am so sorry for that) I am in the same boat as you. My husband is suffering. But like I have stated before we need to All come together and let this reporter know what people are still going through. You never know!!!!
Done playin- maybe true where your at but my pharmacy fills dilaudid only for my buddy and roxicodone 30mg only for me. never needed another rx before...first ive ever heard of that. what county are you in? i wanna stay away from there for sure.

This is NOT something that is handled by the Attorney Generals Office. I did speak with them about this subject and it is handled by the Florida Department of Health/Pharmacies. You have to file a formal complaint. The website is: myfloridalegal.com and the tel number is 877-425-8852. These rogue pharmacies need to be penalized for the price gouging.
I also spoke to the reporter that wrote the article about the "shortage" contending there is none. The article primarily stated that there was/is no PRODUCTION shortage. It is a logistics issue within both CVS and Walgreens. The bottom line is that the ones that need their meds cannot get it. One simply cannot go to a different pharmacy as they have no "track record" with the new pharmacy. Most pharmacies are not even taking new patients if they need any narcotic medications.
U need to have more than just that one scrip they wont fill just oxy, i know its stupid.
@ micky, I'm so sorry your husband to suffer with cancer pain. That is a travesty of justice in and of itself. The problem is, you have to stay within a certain distance of your residence or pain clinic for med to be filled. If you look further down on this thread, someone posted they have them in cape coral. I would also call the american cancer society, or ask the Dr who prescribed how they can help. That's so wrong, and someone needs to step up and help your spouse. I also think bringing a record of diagnosis would help alot, even Walgreens or CVS, as this is a dire situation. Good luck and God bless. @ mouth, thank you! Some of us are educating ourselves instead of posting their whole.life's history and giving wrong info day after day. Take care
im from ft myers. my husband has cancer. can anyone tell me anywhere within 4 hours of ft myers where i can fill oxy 30's? he is all legit, so is the dr. we just need to know where to go. please help.
@Panic npain.....I have been told the same thing as U stated with the pharmacies having to get other meds to balance out the controlled substances. I was also informed that they only are allowed to dispense a certain amount each month that is reported to the FDA or DEA..one of them. So some pharmacies reach their quota by almost the 1st week of the month depending on how many patients they dispense to. That's why a lot of the small pharmacies won't take any new patients. So...now that U found a place...stick to it!! Good Luck :)
So sick of the repetition of 1 poster on here. Do the research, bc it's not all one agencies fault, it's a number of factors. The one walgreeens I used for 2 yrs, started that " I'm not comfortable filling" bs story. The other walgreens 2 miles north, said they no longer carry C2 meds. The others say they only fill for regular customer's. Wtf, their system is nation wide, so that's another bs story. As far as the pill mills, if you weren't referred by primary Dr and have and MRI, and a resident of the state of FL., you're not getting any pain meds. It's the fda, the dea and new laws that has most of us cpp suffering. Just got opana filled, went there this morning, told me come back this afternoon, I did, and still have to go back again tomorrow for remaining prescription. This is a small pharmacy, and am lucky he's helping me. He is also accepting my insurance, but still costing close to 100 with it. Im not complaining, but it pisses me off that roxycodone helped me more, and cost me and insurance co a lot less. I stated in a previous post this pharmacist said he would fill this for me, but told me flat out, no roxycodone or dilaudid. Is it the money he's making or is it because roxycodone has been so over written and so cheap, it's not worth it for them. Dr explained something further to me also. For every bottle of narcotic the pharmacy buys, they must buy other meds to keep the narcotics stocked below a percentage. That would explain the price gouging, at these mom and pop pharmacies. They're passing along their costs of meds they might never dispense to the customer. If you don't know what you're talking about then kindly shut up and stop the ranting. Most of us are sick of it. Ffpcan Peace

FrustratedCPP post 616......I have been all through this. The price gouging is not handled by the DEA or the Attorney Generals Office. If you want to file a complaint, this is where to go: The Department of Health/Pharmacies at myfloridalegal.com The phone number is 877-425-8852. You can do a formal complaint and they will investigate.
I was talking with my doctor today. The DEA needs to look at the private pharmacies that are charging outrageous prices to their cash paying customers. The only ones who can afford those prices are the drug dealers who are selling them for $30.00 a pill. THE DEA needs to investigate those pharmacies and leave the true chronic pain sufferers and chain pharmacies alone. Why do the private pharmacies get away with price gouging?? How can they continue to fill prescriptions at high prices???
Well said Mike!
-Tater-Salad I have read many of your posts and I have tolerated them but it is getting to the point that you are just ranting on and on. The days of pill mills handing people scripts for 240 are long gone. When the database kicked in in 2011 most of them moved to GA. I'm not saying there aren't shady docs still but you act like all these out of state people are still coming to FLA and getting hundreds of pills and thats what is causing the shortage and you are flat out wrong. When the pill mills were open it wasn't hard to fill a script then you could go into any chain and most mom and pops were still $2 or less. Now days if someone is coming from out of state they have to have a FL id and to get one of those isn't exactly easy thanks to the real id act. Now there are still plently of FL citizens who are still getting scripts that don't have much wrong with them and who really don't need the meds simply because when they started going to the doc 3 or 4 years ago the pill mills were open and handing them out to anyone. Those same people now have 4 years of script history and as long as they have kept going to the dr they still get the meds. The shortage is simply caused by pharmcists trying to cover there own butt. Sure I believe that many of the chains have been cut back on what they can order but they still get the meds they just keep them for there regular customers who have been going to that store for along time. The regular customers at walgreens got screwed this month because of the distribution center shutting down and all the regulars who were getting them from walgreens are now screwed until walgreens can get the situation fixed. Even the mom and pops that charge ridicolous amounts of money are still getting them for there regulars. So the bottom line is unless you want to drive around endlessly or you were/are one of the lucky people who has been going to a different chain than walgreens you are simply going to have to switch meds. It sucks but that is how it is.
I did my part and contacted Amy with the Sentinel in Orlando. Now if more of us will just do the same it may open her eyes...
@howie,all the pill mills that are not lagit an do nothing but push paper to any age people will take anyone in there office,No Matter Age as long as there 18yrs old an say pay 500.00 up front an then 350.00 for a MRI then take it to the pain clinic who dont know how to read a MRI an will tell them whatever they need to to start getting there 140 each month, until they close every non lagit pill mill who charges a 500 fee to get into there office,The State of florida will soon not be able to give no one meds like morphine or nothing when the pill mills are allowed to continue to take anyone off the street in there office-Why do you think all the people from kentucky-tennesse-ohio was Driving all the way to florida to get scripts, thats why Florida is not carrying type 2 medications no more,Cause all the pill mill paper pushers was giving out 240 to 300 oxycodones to every person thast walked into there office,If it were not for the pill mills this State would not have no shortage an no reason to stop pharmacies from filling any scripts now,They are suppose to fill your scripts when you take it to them,But the DEA here Have the Dumbest people there is working for them,Instead of taking pharmacies controlled substance licenses away from them they should close the offices that is writting them out to these punks who are just out of school an never worked a day in there life an are selling them on the street so they dont have to work, now if they got them you will pay 30 each for them,so they can get rich quick just like the low life scum thats writting them out to them, while the rest of us with real chronic pain have to suffer because of them
As post 583 had a article link there. You need to contact this reporter and tell her your story. I am so sorry that this has been happening to you. For everyone also. This is inhumane. People have the right to not be in pain. You are not children EVERYONE needs to come together and tell their story to Amy Pavuk, Orlando Sentinel. She thinks that there is no problem out there, but there is a HUGE one. I have a loved one that is suffering with horrible pain.... and just like you all, NOT able to get his LEGAL pres. filled. His Dr. and Chiro. are at there witts end with this also. This has been ruing his life and our family life. It is a domino effect. Why should the ones be suffering who take the medication the way it is suppose to be taken. I could go on and on, but I wont. Everyone gets my point. You all are not alone. We need to all come together and contact this reporter.
