2012 Oxycodone 30mg Shortage In Florida (Page 10) (Top voted first)
UpdatedMy spouse, who is in severe, chronic pain, has been a customer of Walgreens for many years. We live in Pinellas County, Florida. Everyday this week we have driven from Walgreen's to Walgreen's trying to fill his prescription for Roxicodone 30mg, to no avail. I cannot get any help from his regular pharmacy. I know that it's dangerous for them to tell a total stranger which store has them in stock, but I don't understand since they know him, why they can't call around or give us any assistance. I am at a total loss as to what to do & would appreciate any information that you could provide. It is so hard to see him in so much pain. Thank you.
I agree, they just won't get rid of them, probably make them like the gummy OC's now.
They've shut down wholesalers and will continue to do so...I'm just trying to help and thought this information would be appreciated...I'm going through the same situation as most of you...it's not about who's right or wrong or how you can prove one or the other...we're on here to seek help from people going through the same experience and not getting answers or resolutions...more and more posts have popped up lately where pharmacies that we have been going to for months, years, weeks are now either refusing to fill or are out and will be out for a while and this is not just some short-term problem...it's just going to get worse and start reaching farther across the US...it's been on the news and in newspapers since the middle of last year - oxycodone is being replaced, due to the mass amount of people misusing it and dying from overdoses...the FDA has gotten involved...let's stop kidding ourselves and do some research.
Ms Karen you're probably right...but idk... I wouldn't have believed it either if my Dr and Walgreens told me....only time will tell...either way, I can't continue to search high and low and be filled with anxiety and fear that I won't get my scripts filled...running all over town and searching sites like these wears on you...I don't see it getting better only worse..and from reading this blog and others online, it has gotten worse than it has ever been.
this is where I found info: thehealthlawfirmblog.wordpress.com/2012/03/15/orlando-health-attorney-featured-in-latest-issue-of-medical-economics/
Thehealthlawfirmblog.newsletter.com look under FL recent pain management laws. It gives a lot of info on the subject. I too researched the oxycodone subject. Could only find Canada, nothing on US.
Youll need to look up new pain mgt laws in fl. I've tried to post site, and forum says it needs to review it before they post it. Use the most popular search engine and go to page 2. Its a FL attorneys website. Now I'm waiting to get booted out of here for trying to post.
To Marinevet, I don't have my computer in front of me to tell u the exact website. All I did was search "floridadrug new pain management law" & "florida's new medication law" , bcus I was trying to veryify info from previous post where someone said law was changing to no more than 3 days medication a day, which sounded ridiculous. And its was just that they either misheard or misread bcus that wasn't correct....
As for post about arguing, I wasn't trying to argue. I just wanted to correct misinformation that was given bcus all of us hear are looking for info, so shouldn't it be correct?
My pharmacist tries to keep educated regarding the situation, and It's a complex one, but he has never mentioned that oxycodone will stop being manufactured, but it will be. Awhile before the shortage is over, so we do need to have our drs put us on alternative opiates to get by....now, there's a dilaudid shortage, due to drs. Changing people's meds. To the next strongest option....if the government wants to cut off a dangerous drug because It's hurting people, they need to begin with alcohol....I for one want the DEA out of my personal medical files!!!!
K, thanks for the info, I'm n playingot arguing just looking for the facts and that includes most everything we've heard about shortage, new laws etc. ones that I'm wanting to find is the legality of pharmacist "god" by each one being different and making it up as they go. I've been on the 30's for a few years, used walgreens religiously, then out of the blue no luck. I understand the crack down of the manufacturers, spent 3 weeks and drive 400 miles just to be turned down EVERY WHERE! Made switch to dilalids this month, ran into problems at the chain pharmacies the first day. Funny to that I kept running into same people with same problem at each one. Lucked out and found a mom $ pop place and got the
Dilalids filled asked about the 30's and they didn't have them either. Question I have now is will there now be a shortage of those from everyone switching? That is my answerer
Hey y'all (panic pain, disabled999, awww, and u too miss karen(i like you when you r nice)....thanks for posting u guys.....it does really help to read that I am not alone in this.Just wanted to say a bit about your ? panic... Methadone In VERY small doses can help a great deal with pain management, however they are HIGHLY addictve. When I have absolutely NO alternative I take 20 mgs per day and it truly helps with the withdrawal.Never ever run out of this!....probably a crappy idea, but if they really arent going to give us our meds, what is the alternative? Was able to fill methadone the other day,and it has been helping, however I am still in excruciating pain. In small doses(methadone) it can be used as a long acting pain reliever, however, it blocks the opiate receptors in the brain, so if you have breakthrough pain it is not any help whatsoever to take the oxy-30. Then the methadone is terrible to detox from so it probably isnt worth it. I just suggest this cause while we live in constant pain, for God's sake, we should not have to deal with withdrawal as well. Maybe talk to DR about this and I swear we all need to band together and help each other.....I have no earthly idea how to send my e-mail address over this thing, but you can bet Ill share if I ever get these things filled. I kinda was hoping after July 1st it would get easier, but that does not seem to be the case. I am so sorry you are all suffering so much.So sorry everyone is getting sick on Opana.I wish so much that I knew what med to change to that would actually work. I have tried them all and Oxy 30 is the only thing that works.....Dont any of you give up and do not ever let anyone deny you your right to live pain free...
Truthfully, I'm at the end of my rope. Besides the severe back and neck pain, my cluster headaches have returned after 8 years. I went to Dr today, explained the opana makes me nauseated, and offered either morphine or dilaudid. He said the opana is half dilaudid and half oycodone. No way can I take that. I was gi en morphine once in my life when I went to ER for a cluster headache. As soon as it was administered, I vomited. He gave me prescription for roxycodone. Drove all over again, no one has them. Im just so tired, sick and upset. The only med that doesn't make me sick and able to function. The last 2 months have been a nightmare, feeling so nauseous and out of it. 50 something yrs old and I have to suffer. I'm so angry, thanks to all the junkies who screwed legit cpp. Dr also tole me heroin is on the rise. Wtf.. I bet I could get that on the street. I'd never touch it. I bet I could but roxys on the street too. As the druggies call them. I need to vent, sorry and thanks.
I'll just tell you that almost every single Walgreens if not eveery one that you walk into has them. They just will tell you they are out if they don't know you. And now even if they do know you then they probably have different policies that they will bring up too use as a reason they can't fill. I have heard other posts where people said they were told they had to have an IR and an ER med. I read another post where you had to live within so many miles of the pharmacy or you had to use a pharmacy within so many miles of your doctor. The Walgreens on 54th and 66th who long ago stopped having the oxycodone in stock (at least for me.... LIE) told me yesterday that they could no longer fill my 60 MS-Contin because my doctor doesn't accept insurance. The pharmacist there said he had a whole list of doctors that only take cash that they will no longer fill for as of July 1st because of that reason. I then asked if he had a list of Doctors they would fill for which of course he didn't. When this whole mess started at the beginning of the year I was given a list by Medicinnce Shoppe on East Bay of doctors that they would fill for. If you have a regular Walgreens I would try them every day in the morning time. If not I would suggest trying Target and Sweetbay and maybe Walmart or Kmart. Otherwise you will have to go the mom and pop route which is now at least $6/each.
The post below I posted on another thread just wanted everyone too see it. The best advice I can give for people that are still having trouble filling is first off you need to be a regular and use the same Walgreens every single month. I did that for over a year and never had trouble. Now days they are always out so they say. But I have personally seen someone who is a friend walk into the same store 15 minutes after I was denied and get his 180 filled. If you were a regular at Walgreens and that is happening to you then I would suggest trying to find another chain and I know that is alot easier said than done.
I also believe that Walgreens gets a shipment of oxycodone every single day which they save for their regulars. It is possible but a very slim chance that you can walk into one and they will fill for you. It does happen but not often. The best way about using your regular Walgreens or anyone for that matter is to get there around 9:30 in the morning that has worked the best for me. Also if you have a Sweetbay near your house I would suggest trying them. I heard they have a policy where you have to live within so many miles of the store but I have a buddy who uses sweetbay and they actually put his scripts to the side and hold them until he is ready to pick them up. He calls about a week or so in advance and he gets them there every month. It is the sweetbay somewhere around Crystal Beach/Palm Harbor area. Also Walmart does get shipments in and while I have never personally had any luck filling there they do actually check the computer unlike most Walgreens where you walk up and the pharmacist or tech is very polite and respectful until they see your script , then their whole demeanor changes and the majority of the time they just automatically same we don't have this medication in stock without ever even checking the computer. Like I said they save for their regulars. If all else fails you may have to just find a mom and pop and pay the $6/each and they will have them for you every month.
I got sick of playing the run around game and simply got my script chagned to Morphine Sulfate 30mg IR which is generic for MSIR. I personally think they help more for pain than oxycodone 30's do but it does take your body a little time to adjust. At first they tend to make you very drowsy but once you become adjusted they work better than the oxycodone did at least for me. And they are super cheap too even at the mom and pop that charges $6/each for the roxys I pay $60 for 180 of the MSIR 30mg
To INAGONY. Unfortunately u r co disingenuous Methadone with suboxone. Suboxone blocks the opiate receptors in the brain & will throw u onto an agonizing ferocious if u take it & aren't already going thru detox. Also, Methadone isn't an alternative for oxycodone 30's bcus Methadone is long acting & 30's are immediate release for "breakthrough pain". I've been on Methadone for 8 years along with oxy 30's for breakthrough. Just trying to correct some more misinformation. Also, all of what I just wrote can be confirmed by researching it. Although I'm 1000% confident of my info. As a matter of fact, there are programs in some of the cities w/highest heroin abuse where they are issuing Suboxone for junkies to keep on hand incase someone is od'ing so they can inject the Suboxone & almost immediately takes them from overdose & dying to awake & coherent. Although on the special I watched, some of them were pissed bcus they were saying, "I was ok, I wasn't od'ing". Meanwhile they really where.
Marinevet, I apologize. I wasn't referring to when I stated, "about the arguing". Sorry for confusion.
TO PANICPAIN, its funny u mentioned about heroin being on rise bcus I predicted that a few months ago. As we have all said numerous times on here, the junkies and people getting pills a illegally will always find a way to get their stuff a illegally & it's the legitimate to people this crap affects. So anyways, all this has done has made it so people that obtain pills illegally & that are looking to get high are gonna start getting heroin instead.....
GREAT JOB DEA! YOU'VE SCREWED OVER LEGITIMATE PEOPLE & ARE IN PROCESS OF BRING HEROIN BACK TO MAIN STREAM POPULARITY & ABUSE.
Like many of you I've been going to same Walgreens for years, used to take 3 days to fill then a few months ago my pharmacist said it would take 7 to 10 days and then I walked in last month and she says i can no longer give you a timeline but she took my script to hold and fill as she always has even tho any Walgreens Pharmacist wil tel you its against their policy to hold a script. Well she wasn't lying, its been 15 business days so far and stil no email or text as in the past saying its ready. There were two previous occasions where it took 12 business days but this is insane. She would not have taken my script as usual if there was no chance it would ever get filled so I just have to wait but I'm going to be a month behind and really not confident in getting them filled again if this does go through. My doctor offers to change my meds but I would get insurance and use Medco, only thing is will Medco take me or say an insurance companies mailorder even if my doctor doesn't take insurance? What I mean is say I join Humana or any insurance compnay and then have my script sent to them, will they fill it and mail it if I pay for it even tho my Doctor isn't in their network?
I was a Walgreens customer for almost 2 yrs. I have the computer print out to show that I filled there every month. I also filled @ cvs prior to that. Still both turned me away. My Dr only works1 day a wk so now, I'll have to wait to switch it to morphine till next wk. He offered it to me, but I was scared of taking that. I have 18 pills left of opana and will wean myself down. I can't play this sick bs anymore. I'd almost rather suffer in pain than be going thru this every month. This cycle is so twisted, I'm tired very tired. Didn't go out this a.m. looking. For what, to be told no for the 100th time? I'm done fighting.
The only advice I can give is this.....
About a year ago I had to switch doctors, because the Dr I used for the past 6 yrs did NOT take Ins., so the DEA and Pharms feel like "those" doctors are only "pill writers", and are "red-flagged" in the pharmacies. I did have Ins., but Dr didn't take, so I had to pay cash. I moved from east coast to west and had to switch anyways, so I made sure that my new Dr took Ins. Since then, I lost my Ins., cause my husbands finances have decreased dramatically. Although I was faithfully using CVS for yrs, I went to a Walgreens instead, which happened to have 4-5 months in a row. Then, when I went to fill the next time, Walgreens was out so I went to CVS. Since I was using Walgreens for the previous 4-5 mths, CVS did NOT want to fill me. ?!?! I explained that I had previously used CVS to fill for about 6 yrs and had only "switched" to Walgreens for convenience, but wanted to return to CVS. I was able to fill (after 10 days and lots of aggregation, including involving the District Regional Mgr). However, that was the ONLY time that the Pharmacist said he had them. For the last 3 mths it's been "hit or miss" or "1st come 1st serve", etc. What I did that I thought would help, was to go on the computer and and "switch" ALL my scripts to CVS online, and my whole families scripts,
as well. I created "username/password", and hit the link to "Manage" my Account. Although my husband had to get up every morning for over a week to do the "hunt" we're all familiar with, he finally found a CVS that had them. Absurdly enough, just when he was about to give up ( after his 3 hr search), and I had just called my Dr to confirm I was indeed coming in to have my meds
changed, he stopped by 1 last CVS on way home and he found. After searching around, doing "research", reading Blogs, and Forums, I've come to the conclusion of this: I strongly believe that the "radius" has EVERYTHING to do with whether you get them or not. I really do think that the Pharmacist(s) will ONLY fill scripts for people who live within a "5 mile radius", AND see a Dr that DOES take Insurance, (even if YOU don't have it). Also, you need to make "friends" with the Pharmacist. JUST go there every day. NO where else. If they see that you are NOT going to give up, I think that they will "work you in" as a "regular".... Make sure you point out that THEY are the CLOSEST Pharmacy to where you live and NEED THEIR HELP. STOP GOING FROM PLACE TO PLACE and just "faithfully" go to ONE Pharmacy. Explain WHY you're on them. How LONG you've been on them, etc. Instead of just being another person/"junkie" (as the way they sometimes look at you or make you feel), and become a REAL person to them. This is just my advice. Who knows. After being out of my meds for over a week, and going through all that BS, with searching, writing letters, making phone calls, desperately seeking help/advice.... Maybe I just got "lucky"; and I'll be back in same boat next month.... But, I feel for ALL of you and I know what you're going through. I do know of 2 mom and pop places that did have them on Wed, BUT they would NOT fill for me because I had never been there before. Again, the BEST chance anyone has to be successful (which is my "opinion", ONLY), is to be a "constant/familiar" presence in ONE Pharmacy and show them LOYALTY by letting them know you are DEPENDING on THEM to somewhat being your "savior"..... Because, let's face it, The "Pharmacist" himself, IS the ONLY way you have half a chance in getting your medicine. Sick, but true.
Good Luck to everyone. God Bless ALL
i WENT nd got my script changed to the 8mg dilaudid's, same problem. does ayone know f even a mom and pop place that has them? im in cimplete agony i cant take this anymore.
