2011 30 Mg Oxycodone Shortage (Page 7) (Top voted first)

Updated

I am a 51 y/o who lives in Florida, suffering from chronic back pain, and have been prescribed to take up to six 30mg oxycodone tablets a day for over two years by my Pain Management doctor. However, when I went to fill my prescription almost 4 weeks ago, my pharmacy told me their distributor had stopped shipping oxycodone to Florida pharmacies. Since then, I have personally visited about 100 pharmacies but have been unable to find them in stock anywhere. As a former paralegal, I attempted to research the situation, but could only confirm that the DEA has yearly quot on all controlled substances (for oxy's is 98 million grams in 2011). From I gather from the Internet, it appears that the ENTIRE state of FLORIDA is not getting any shipments of oxycodone 30 mg. from distributors, but are other states having this problem as well? Also, can anyone confirm whether (and HOW) the DEA is pressuring distributors to avoid Florida?

Besides the fact that there is no more shortages based on the web site the fda has as of Feb 9 most of the oxycodone is back in stock. I cannot even get my OXY 80's as the pharmacies are STILL insisting that they are on allotments too. This is a bunch of BS and someone has to pay..

I take generic focalin for ADHD and there is still a major shortage in my local pharmacies but the mail order one through my insurance company said they never get requests for it and have years worth at my dose on stock... the FDA says that the focalin is no longer on shortage either.... Focalin is like amped up Ritalin and is a CII drug and my insurance covers it and it is legal to get medications that are CII of you are on a "stable, maintenance dose and have been for awhile"... the addicts ruin it for all of us... luckily most people with ADHD have no idea what focalin is so I don't fear having my house robbed like when I took Adderall or Focalin... I did notice people sitting in cars for a few days after getting the 90 day supply but that makes sense but I think they were more or less seeing if there were people in and out every 5 minutes the day they came in the mail... that was how I dealt with it...

The DEA is taking our meds away! Is everyone going to stand for this? It not have effected you yet, but it is coming. count on that. Carl is right about no food and all the control that being put on us. When is it that Americans are going to start speaking out? I guess when everything is all gone. It's all part of a one world order and it's coming.

Hello I was reading your post and Im moving from Flordia to Maryland next month. Im a 62 year old Grandmother of 4 young children that I currently have custody of and I can not go a day with out my medication Im currently taking Oxycodone 30mg 1 tab 4x daily and Oxycodone 15mg for breakthrough pain and Have been on this medication for 6 years Since I Broke my hip. I will need a new Doctor once I move and I wanted to see if you happen to have a name for a doctor that prescibes these medications ? Moving to a new state I would not know where to begin to look and I do not want to have and go to lots of differnt Doctors because certan ones will not prescribe the medications Im currently on. I appreciate this kindly.

you need to get a copy of your medical records for when you move it might costs you $25 or nothing..I would go online some more and when you do go the Dr. tell them that you have been through all sorts of medications and here is what works for me and show them the copies from your pharmacy(for sure get copies of those)..
Good Luck
I was told always to say your pain level was a 7 or less never a 10 coz your body could not take the pain.. just an FYI there..

I will just keep you up to snuff on the west coast. I had my #120 hydromorphone 4mg filled late last week. I had to go to a second Pharmacy, but I have been 1/2 the time I have to go to another, or visa verse, because I started a new plan Feb 1st. I have to go to one or the other exclusive. It was Wal Mart that didn't have the hydromorphone, but they said they never needed to keep more than 100 at a time. They said no problem if I was going to get that every month, they will keep more in stock. The same place I had to go to the last 4 months for my Dextroamphetamine Sulfate 10mg. NO ONE in the 75 mile area had the 5mg or the 10mg. since Nov.2011except where I started to go. I mentioned the Dexes last week that I would be getting them this week, and he reminded me I got the last of what they had and for 4 months everyone else had been out and got the last of their last the month before. I saw him last week and said he had just been starting to get back orders on the the Dexies's and was getting back orders, but only getting partials and were all ready out. So when I came in last night to get them filled, He had one bottle unopened 100 count. So the Dexies and the Adderall, Ritalin are a lost cause here, the DEA with their medical expertese but opiates are not coming across by the Pharmacist difficult at all. I checked on oxycodone, roxys, and oxycontin, and didlaudid and they were alright with them, and have been. I talked to the Pharmacist for a little, since I was the last customer. He is seeing what I said. It's a lot of meds that weren't necessarily controlled.substances, non narcotic, it was worse a little more this year end more than the usual norm. I read the day before cancer treating meds) at a hospital that was out of ( non narcotic). He has read the same thing. One of my Drs. 2 months ago read the same on pharmaceuticals all over. a lot in hospitals. So I see nothing unusual on controlled substance here, especially semi synthesis narcotics. A little rougher on this year end and first of the year and may be months until back to norm. ALL ADHD meds, HAVE HAD A LARGE INCREASE, over the last several years. The AMA is starting to believe they are over prescribed and the DEA is no fan. I have seen no shortages over the last 6 months in general over the opiates. I don't know if it's just in Florida, and a few other spots. I know when Pharmacies get limited, they keep giving out the small scripts and say they don't have enough to fill the large scripts, so they can keep more happy, rather than one, or 2. I have zero co-payments on generics up to max of 360 a month a script from Walmart and Walgreens only, total 4 stores, two of each. A premium of $23.70 a month. Well, I don't get any meds until the first week of next month, but next week I will do another round and do a real thorough fact finding investigation from many of in the know people. Keep the info flowing and we will see what is fact and fiction. BTW someone mentioned their civil rights and freedom . They have the right to take their legal meds. Who said you have the right to meds. That must be somewhere so adamantly and discreetly and obscurely squeezed between the civil rights violations /stolen/given/swept away/or was ignored when writing any Amendments, albeit, 7TH, 8TH, 9TH Amendments I must have missed that nodding when all Civil Liberties were taken or given to another. Is there only Mallinckroft generic Hydromorphone or what. I haven't seen anything but them for 6-7 years!!!! Carl

Have your Pharmacy print the last 12 months of scripts.

I listed the always running score card on what the pharmaceutical industries maufacturer's by the FDA in running demand, manufacturing why behind, and production shortage. How long the shortages, and following more behind or catching up with demand. The brand, chemical, the doses. January had shortages in generic codeine 3's and 1/2 and 1 mg generic Xanax don't remember the company..reason ..raw chemicals. HP Dilaudid solution.

hey Carl.. West central Florida is/was the epicenter for illegal scripts people from KY,OHIO etc were coming down going to several Dr.'s in 1 day and getting scripts for large amt of oxy's180-210qt sometimes more or less.
It was obvious when there would be standing room only of "patients" inside & outside. THEN going back to their home states and selling sometimes for a $1 a mg or more per pill. People were Overdosing on Oxy's,methadone, Xanax and alcohol in combinations..
This is the Dr's/Pharmacists fault for being greedy and writing and charging what they want basically for the scripts knowing mostly they would be sold illegally.
Our Florida Gov Scott and others passed the law of finally being one of the last states to have a program that is interlinked with Dr's & Pharmacies for Dr. shopping which within a years time OD's having dropped substantially.
that said.. slowly people are starting to get their prescriptions filled.
Pharmacists are still judging patients and not filling the oxy's..which can be a full day of driving around coz' they will not tell you over the phone whether they will fill them or not..Frustrating!!!

Hey Donna,
I know about the oxycontin hwy. I know oxycontin was going $1. a mg. in Olympia and all the way up to Seattle when I was living there in 95-08. Back in 2003-08 someone was selling all the oxy's 40 and 80s. Let's just say "someone" had a $4k credit over that it was pay over that to let's say WU to PO Box somewhere in the USA and shipped same day got the WU. $40 and $80 respectively, Purdues that is, just a hop skip and jump from here down the internet superhighway. Norcos @ $1.75. that was only100-300 so a week, heard "that is" 10 minimum to up to a 1000 or so of 40's or 80's a week or less a customer which many knew from a chat almost like this. This "person" traveled the world and always had oxy's from the business trips, so I hear, chatted and emailed tru a secure server and emails. This "person" was always getting hit up to purchase. So it is as always, if you know the right "people" you could alway score in 24+ hrs. That was ot, I knew a Dr and Associates in Hollywood, not Florida, Ca. in the late 60's to mid 80's that every month could get 30 to the special, 45 each month a script of ups, downs, narcotics 4-5 scripts for a total of $10. the generics weren't a commodity til the 80's the brands before cost a little more than the Dr "visit". People were hanging out by 20+ in office and a dozen - 2 dozen on Western St, one block south of Hollywood Blvd. Seconal, Sopers, and Ludes were schedule III, but President Nixon and the DEA came up with the Controlled Act of 1970. They all made there way up to II's before the 70's ended and would only write III,IV, and V's. and the price went up to $20. Then in the nearly 80's went to $30. LA police always driving by and shaking there heads at the crowd. What I see now is you can't always get whatcha want, but if you try sometime you get what you need......for alot more. I bring this Dr up because never lost his right to write controlled substances. Junkies would pay $50 for a 4mg Diluadid no 8mgs then, just 1,2,3,4, by Knoll. No generics, always a II. When the price went up to $30. and Schedule III slowly went to II's AND all the locals pharmacy would not fill his scripts and business dropped of, because the far away eyes Pharmacist, even after calling to check, would not fill any scripts of his. The reason when pushed, these scripts and the combo of them just doesn't feel right. Some Pharmacist just said don't come back, we don't want to fill your scripts. The more things change the more they stay the same. The Pharmacist shut him down, he was not the norm, now that a lot more Dr's are in that little circle now. If you get blood pressure pills and cholesterol meds, and a lot of the Dr's patient don't get anything controlled, it's always the norm for patients of his not to get large narcotics. The Pharmacist now work for chains pharmacies and don't own there own Pharmacy. They don't make any more for filling large amount of opiates over and over for the same person. Also if you fill at one Pharmacy, they know if you fill at another in a lot of States. Big Brother has taken the profit out, by chains, and the DEA is making examples with there new found power of tracking meds easily. I took along time to say that, but some don't believe the Pharmacist when they always say they are out to you. If you just came from a hospital, from surgery that Pharmacist may all of a sudden have stock. Now...I sympathize with all you people that have a legitimate reason in Florida, but unfortunately the stage was set several years ago, and now the Pharmacist is looking out for his salary, not profits from a script that is questionable in his eyes, and the DEA is letting them know subtly the actions they are willing to take. Nothing has changed, it was just on a much smaller case. I have told people here that, they may have legitimate scripts, as a Dr in good standing, but the Pharmacist always have the right not to fill it, there decision, script technically legit or not. You don't have a Constitutional Civil right that a Pharmacist has to serve you and fill your script. Just as the restaurant doesn't have to serve you or fill your lunch order! That is the law, The final say goes down the line and ends at the Pharmacy. Sorry, but that is what is starting to go down, with the fight on drugs, and the new found liking by more people have the DEA and there feelings, a nice way to say it has gone down to a focal point for now..Florida, specially South Florida and guarantee the DEA and there long standing power will pursue outside this limited area, and will grow more and more with there success. I have some help maybe for you when I drop by next and it will be for those that without question (almost for sure) that you really need them, check back, if you think I've taken too many meds and don't know what I'm saying, then never mind. I am sorry for you people in a legit jam, but I don't think you wanted me to sugar coat it. It is what it is. For those that want to take the government on, with lawsuits, do you really have the money to take on the unending resources of those you want to fight, don't get caught up with that. The feds still have marijuana a schedule I and even tho some states have legalized it. Fed law trumps States. You see any movement from the Depts to be and the Adminstration getting any where there, and how many years and pac's money and your money has been spent on this. There is no precedent to help you, especially for the to now since administration after administration fighting the war on drugs that haven't succeeded, but to think that they will stop so more opiate drugs are on the street, legit or not, then you didn't understand The Schedule Control Act of 1970, was about. It was not to fight illegal drugs on the street. It was to give the Feds, especially the DEA to limit the amount of highly addicting drugs to be written less, and the DEA the power to do it. As in 1970, the 21st century has seen it start to move on something THEY can control. Lets look at the Oxycontin 160mg. Should it be a Doctors decision to prescribe it. NO. A fat cat in the DEA and FDA
with no medical degree decided, quit making it!! I'm sorry Donna, really am, and to the others. Carl

Those pain scales are relative. Pain is a subjective. Those scales are only for the Dr. to gauge your pain. They work better in ERs or trauma or maybe even in triage situations the best. Think about it a ;pain manegment or regular physician is seeing you on a regular basis he or she is going to tailor the Drs appt. to asking you what is causing the pain or maybe even ask you what is making it climb or dissipate in number.
I think there should be some sort of supplemental questionare that they give with the number scale that is more descriptiove. For children or people that are illiterate they use sad faces to smiley faces to gauge pain. Sorry bout the spelling in my reply I am tired.

I Have read the law concerning pain medications. as i understand them the legislators who write the laws indicate that the law no means to impede the receiving pain medications that are truly needed by a person. with this in mind how are the law inforcers doing what they as doing. they will not commit themselves, only create situations where patients can not receive their medications.

Mostly it is to prevent Doctor shopping and overdoses. If you are legit you have nothing to be concerned with and just keep looking for the best price and Pharmacy to fill you scripts at.
The supply is slowly getting better here in Florida,we call our pharmacy 2 weeks in advance and let them know we will be bringing in our prescriptions and the Pharmacy will be sure and have them in stock for my husband, plus we are now paying $100 less than what we were 2 months ago(4 scripts)

Ovarian cancer patients whose treatment was interrupted or even stopped entirely because they couldn’t get supplies of the critical chemotherapy drug Doxil applauded news early Tuesday that federal health officials have found a solution to the shortage.
Food and Drug Administration officials said they have arranged to import temporarily a replacement drug called Lipodox from an Indian manufacturer, Sun Pharma Global.
Above a recent FDA shortage solution on a med. As I have pointed out, it's all over the place. It's just more poignant when it's effecting you, and oxycodone has the DEA to deal with. The FDA was critical of the DEA late last year, a rarity, about their hand in shortages.
Some company's said that it won't be getting back to the norm until mid 1012 earliest. I said earliest, that means later in some certain places of lingo, or it can mean earlier, just covering are asses, so who knows what lingo the manufacturers are talking. One thing is almost sure, the DEA is watching every Schedule II narcotic filled and originated in South Florida. No more news to be reported on this subject unless it's real and new, news.

donna s. you are a VERY lucky person...if your pharmacy works with you, dont change...it IS NOT getting better here in florida, that seems to be your personal experience which is uncommon amongst us legitimate pain patients that have become casualties in the war against opioid pain meds....if you were near me i would rub you for luck

This is not happening only with pain killers. I need paregoric to control my Diarrhea, as I have Chron's disease. I have tried all the $3000-$5000 meds and they didn't help, but paregoric works. You used you be able to get this when my children were small. The pharmaceutical companies no longer make it. I had to find a compounding pharmacy that could make it. Now a bottle cost $200 and of course my insurance will not pay for it. No one can tell me why they stopped making it.it. There are hundreds of people on the internet looking for paregoric and suffering because they can't find it. Can anyone tell me why.
