(2) 15mg Oxycodone's Vs. (1) 30mg Oxycodone (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Updated

My doctor prescribed me (60) 30mg. Oxycodone's. But my pharmacist gave me (120) 15 mg. pills as a substitute. My question is will (2) 15 mg. pills have the same effect as (1) 30 mg. pill?

My doctor explained to me that it is equivalent.

Yes, as long as it is the same release formulation, then it would be the same.

Oxycodone is a very potent narcotic pain reliever. Commonly sold under the brand names Roxicodone, OxyIR and Oxycontin, depending on the release formulation prescribed.

Some common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

You can read more about the medication here:

You are talking about a percocet which means ir is buffered with tylenol which means you may destroy your kidneys quite quickly. Tylenol is toxic to kidneys and detracts from the pain relieving aspect of oxycodone.
I broke my spine in 4 places and its disintegrating in addition to having developed a muscular disease PMR which is incredibly painful. Oxycodone is the only pain reliever that doesnt make me feel like a zombie.
I wear a fentanyl patch which helps.I'm 65.
I have a prescription for oxycodone but still cant find it.
I live in Palm Beach County, Florida. Can a Canadian Pharmacy fill a valid USA prescription?

No one under the age of 35 should be prescribed pain meds? So a 29year old who has worked at the same job for 10 years, through a pregnancy that resulted in 2months+ bed rest due to a herniated disk, ruptured disk, fibromyalgia, scoliosis (in two spots, which, alone isn't too bad but with rapid disk degeneration since teens, PROBLEM!), etc., should just suffer & BECOME a lazy, non-contributing citizen, be forced to quit their job (again, of 10years, which is more than most 40somethings can say), because people generalize age, gender, health complications & want to lump drug addicts & true sufferers together? While pregnant, tramadol worked wonders, & then after 2seizures in less than a week, well, I hope I shouldn't have to explain why that was no longer an option.

As a matter of fact, this stigma & assumption of peoples age being related to why they take any medications is what's wrong with "the systen". I read these many times & have never commented until now. To preach that there are legitimate reasons to be on pain meds, then (I assume, based on your high level of expertise??) Put an age limit on it, is ridiculous. Now, with another herniated disk & pinched nerve in my neck, I'm in an enormous amout of pain. This is AFTER my incompetent, unprofessional, reckless PCP had me on 8-10 10mg percocets a day + 75 mg fentynol patches every 48 hours YEARS ago, which I went to another doc, REQUESTED to have my meds decreased SIGNIFICANTLY, & eventually down to NOTHING for nearly 2years, until this,& i do not want to& will not be put on a bunch of pain meds for it....my intention is to FIX the problem ASAP, but, as i mentioned, i cannot just drop my jobs, children, bills& life & FORCE a neurosurgeon to operate TODAY..

I have 2daughters to raise, my STATE GOV job at a law firm, as well as 2businesses I own, and have to type for. I'd been "dealing with" the lower back pain, NO meds, & some days, I'd be stuck in bed unable to move, but, it beats the hell out of being "drugged up", just for the pain to still break through.

The (longwinded, drawn out, which I apologize for) point is that sometimes, people (regardless of age, for that matter u might as well say all women/men are abusing it with that logic) are in legitimate pain & in order to take care of themselves, their family, work, pay their bills (& taxes, to support the "addicts", welfare recipiants, etc.) until a solution is found/is possible. The age comment is just as inaccurate, disrespectful & ridiculous as saying "we, the dea, KNOW everyone on pain meds is abusing them& no more than junkies& were gonna make sure EVERYONE suffers"

THAT'S FUNNY... THE "DEA" IS HIRING ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DROP OUTS?!!??!

Semi-proper spelling, grammar, and less slang may have rendered you more believable, at least to a few i****s...lmao!

Why are you so bitter? Did your doctor lick the red off of your lollipop or should I say stop your prescription of narcotics because you're a fake? Hello, NEWS FLASH, it does not take cancer to have debilitating pain... And when you have it you'll drink poison if that's what it takes to alleviate just a small amount.

Here's a bit advice... Try walking in ones shoes before you pass judgement. Hopefully, that won't be what it takes, real pain will lead you to lows you never knew existed and to a life you no longer want to exist. Believe it or not... it's a last resort for most of us.

I hope you have a pain-free day!!

Hey , I needed to respond not all patients of oxycodone 30mg are addicts, I my self am on 30 mg and I had to city jobs , I got injured on the job , I have spinal stenosis, I just had surgery on my lumbar I have a tear on both my shoulders I have a torn meniscus and really bad carpal tunnel in my wrist, I need 4 more surgeries and the main one is fusion of my cervical, if it wasn't for my meds I would be a person in bed all day due to pain, I hate taking pills but some of us just don't have a choice , and after all the pain is gone then we have to go through the pain of getting off the pain meds which is another task in it self , please be more mindful of how u speak about people who r suffering everyday in pain , patients who r really hurt should not be labeled an addict, u can be in the same boat one day, God bless you and have a good day.

I use to work at a psychiatric hospital many, many years ago. This may or may not be right. Sorry. My brain is not what it use to b. 1 doctor would not let parents get generic meds for the children that were his patients & I had to be the one to break the news to very angery & frustrated parents. He said that generic meds only had to have 80% of the actual meds in them & the other 20 could be crap. So, some companies took advantage of that and others had higher standards. Some, even had different amounts in the different doses or batches each time & he said that the other 20% could b scary stuff. So, some of my parents who were very poor & who's insurance refused to pay unless it was generic, he would let get the generic but only for some of the medication and only certain generic brands. For the parents who could not pay for the medications he refused to write generics for, he would actually change the medication all together or give them samples of the real thing to see if they worked for those children, before he would let their children take the generic. Everyone reacts different, especially with psych meds. If the real thing did not work, there was no reason for the parents to struggle to pay for it. Then, he would try something else, hopefully in a generic. He said some generics were almost poison. I personally do not take many generics. I don't know if that helps but it is all I can think of to explain why that might be happening to y'all.

Roxanne,

You do not see people on here talking about abusing drugs, and if you read carefully they have been legally prescribed for legitimate pain issues. We're not talking about how taking mass amounts, misusing or abusing like I've seen on other sites...this is a community where pain patients can ask others questions or concerns that they have. You shouldn't be so quick to judge, as not only cancer patients have pain. I was 40 yrs old when they thought I had Carpal Tunnel. I went thru 9 months of PT and had surgery. It ended up not being Carpal Tunnel, but Kidney Disease that caused chronic Gout, and Rheumatoid. My Gout is so bad my hand and feet have become deformed, my finger twice the normal size, pockets of uric acid everywhere so bad it was coming out of my skin. This is in every joint in my body and 2 years ago started to go to my tendons. I have severe degenerative disk disease and my L2 thru L6 are pretty much gone, and sitting on nerves. This is also in my neck. I don't deserve pain meds because I don't have Cancer? If you truly believe that, then I can only wish that some day you feel my pain. I have been on 10mg of Hydrocodone for 9 years, and I have beyond built up a tolerance, but because of all this crap my doctor will not up my script. I live in constant pain and because of people like you that think we're all abusing it will live this way for the rest of my life. So excuse me when I tell you to screw your thoughtless and stupid comments...you have no idea what you're talking about. I've seen websites, pages and forums where they are talking about abusing them and this is pain patients asking legitimate questions from other patients, and you'll see that it's stuff they've spoken to their doctor about. So if you'd like to troll drug forums, please find another because you comments are uneducated, rude and obnoxious!

Na definitely not. Id Much rather hav 1 30 then 2 15s. No question about it. Mayb if u Just got prescribed that strength & have a low tolerance, but if you have been prescribed them for a while, you always get single.higest mg pill back....%100...rather get the30 back 4 sure!

Absolutely correct, they hit faster, because of the smaller dosage being metabolized at the same time however with the half Life of 3.5 hours is when I notice the biggest change... because a smaller mg upon half life even though it is two pills does not equal the same plasma bioavailability... so it's not the same... go to a different pharmacy

You will probably never see this, but your not the only one! I have the same problem a d go into withdrawals taking a less pill. The lower the mg the less effective.

You are so wrong dude. Number one, you are not with the DEA, as they would never post to an f...ing blog! Number two, you have absolutely no business deciding that only cancer patients should be prescribed opiates. Yes, unfortunately they do end up in the wrong hands, people OD. Yes, that happens. However, I am a chronic pain girl and I just had my second back surgery, that is probably not going to get rid of all of all of my pain. I do not talk to anyone about being on meds. No gloating about it. I do not like taking them, but I would have absolutely no quality of life without these medications!

Roxanne, the first thing I'd like to know is whether you drink alcohol, smoke cigs, etc ... Actually just alcohol ... Before you go calling people nasty names because they take a pain med. People, by the way, that you don't even know. You ought to get your head out of the other end. The most abused useless drug there is (in my opinion) is ALCOHOL. HOW dare you judge what you apparently have no experience in. Not all drinkers are alcoholics. Not all those that take pain meds are drug addicts. It's easy to throw stones when no one can call you to acct.
