Cholesterol Overview

Cholesterol is the principal sterol of all animals, distributed in body tissues, especially the brain and spinal cord, and in animal fats and oils. Cholesterol is biosynthesized by all animal cells and is an essential structural and signaling component of animal cell membranes. In vertebrates, hepatic cells typically produce the greatest amounts. In the brain, astrocytes produce cholesterol and transport it to neurons. It is absent among prokaryotes (bacteria and archaea), although there are ...

Safety and Efficacy of Expired Crestor or Rosuvastatin

Can I use expired Crestor also known as Rosuvastatin after the expiration date? Maybe 2 or 4 months after expiration? Does it become toxic or just lose effectiveness? ## They just begin to lose efficacy, so it would be best to dispose of them and obtain a new supply. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and joint/muscle aches. Is there anything else I can help with? ## My mom has Crestor that expired in 2013. Is it safe to take? The bottle has been open. ## So Rosuvastatin, is safe to take after they expired, but lose efficiency? ## Take it. Expiration date mandated by FDA. Just means manufacturers guarantee potency up to that date. Could probably use well past that date.

Simvastatin and CoQ10

I was recently told that simvastatin depletes CoQ10, leading to the "weakness" side effect. Anyone heard this? ## I have to agree with that statement, as there are a number of discussions relating to Statin drugs (atorvastatin, cerivastatin, fluvastatin, lovastatin, simvastatin) depleting the body of coenzyme Q10. Other types of drugs like beta-blockers also deplete the body of this too, but one way to help counteract this is to supplement with CoQ 10. Personally, If I were short on this vital nutrient, I would supplement a minimum of 400-600mg a day while taking one of those drugs that inherently depletes it. That's just me, as I would prefer to be well stocked if I became aware that this was happening to me. I hope this helps! ## Thank you ## CoQ10 depletion is definitely ...

Atorvastatin causing congestion and throat swelling

About a month or so after starting 10mg of Atorvastatin I began to feel some congestion on the right side of my throat and the pill was sticking to that side of my throat and felt like it was tarting to dissolve there instead of continuing to move down my throat. I had to start taking applesauce to clear it. I have not had a problem before this and when I take larger gel capsule supplements they go down and do not stick. I am wondering if it is the Atorvastatin that has created this issue for the last 2 1/2 months? I went to see my throat doctor and some swelling was visible.

All my meds is still the same but Crestor has been replaced with zuvamor. As it is evening here, I am unable to get hold of my doctor and the symptoms are receding now. Zetia and vertigo, arm and leg pain

My husband took Zetia for several years with no side effects..that we recognized. He has suffered sudden onset vertigo on and off for several years...fine one minute..throwing up and unable to stand the next. He started complaining with his legs being weak so we started walking to help build muscles...he's always been extremely active. After a few more weeks the weakness was worse...legs and hips. We finally researched enough to pinpoint the problem as Zetia. The end of this month will be 3 months off. Now he has severe pain in his arms and shoulders..and the legs and hip issue is better some days than others. We are both scared that this won't get better. The pain from this is stealing his joy...his rest...his ability to live a normal life. At this point...we desperately need p...

Atorvastatin Gluten Free

I have celiac disease and want to know if Atorvastatin is gluten free. Thanks ## The composition of inactive ingredients can really depend upon each manufacturer of Atorvastatin. Some may or may not contain any gluten, but if you know the marking or imprint on your tablet, it should be possible to find a list of the ingredients. Any additional details on the pill's physical properties (i.e. shape, color) would also be good to have as well. ## I am a celiac and also take atorvastatin It is white and oval with MX on front and A15 on back. Dont know if that is enough info to b able to tell me. Thanxs ## No this was not helpful, the question was simple, does it contain gluten yes or no ## The atorvastatin I have is white and imprinted with RDY- manufacturer is Dr. Reddy's ## I have ...
