Xarelto And Shortness Of Breath

I was taken off of Xarelto and put on Eliquis 2.5mg twice daily. Everything seemed fine. Then my cardiologist increased the dose to 5 mg twice daily because she said I should be on a “regular” dose. Within a day or two, I started with shortness of breath upon the least exertion. Also, I became constiipated. I continued until I became so debilitated that I decided to lower back to the 2.5 dose. By this time, the shortness of breath had a life of its own. Anyone else have this reaction to Eliquis? ## Hi Marilynn, Sorry to hear about your reaction to the medication. Medlineplus.gov lists the following symptoms as side effects of Eliquis (Apixaban): -trouble breathing -wheezing -feeling dizzy or faint Source: medlineplus.gov/druginfo/meds/a613032.html They go on to note that if ...

I had a PE two years ago, and was put on Xarelto, once I started my normal everyday things again and felt stronger I would sometimes get light headed and feel what could be anxiety...I stopped taking it for four moths (at a doctors advice) but then they found another clot in my deep vein near the pelvis. So back on it again...I can do lots of strenuous work and feel fine doing aqua fit etc, but sometimes when digging in the garden or just dancing a bit I get light headed and feel a shortness of breath...is this a side effect? or ? ## Those can be side effects of this medication, as reported by the U.S. FDA, along with nausea, headache, and easy bruising. However, given your history of clots, there is also a chance that something else might be going on, so you should inform your doctor a...

My mother is 90 with AF. Last Sept had blood clots removed from rt leg. She has been on Xarelto for 8 months. She has been complaining of both legs feel ice cold. Her legs are warm to touch. She also describes twitching of her legs at night. She also has SOB when walking from one room to another. She describes it as having to catch her breath. Can this be of concern? This has been going on for months. ## Hello, Linda! How are you and your mother? There is a chance that this is due to medications side effects, the FDA does list similar symptoms as being among the possible ones it can cause, along with increased risk of bleeding, headache, nausea and easy bruising. However, given your mother's history, it would be best to have doctor check things out to be on the safe side. Is there a...

Hello there. In Feb this year I developed shortness of breath and chest pains for 2 days, before I could travel to the city for medical help (I was on a project in a remote part of Kenya) The doctors said I had what was then diagnosed as Pulmonary Embolism, though no clots were seen after all scans. I was also diagnosed with Acute Pneumonia as well. I was admitted for 8 days and then put on 20mg Xarelto for 6 months. I am due to come off the medication in August. I was back running (5 km every morning) and to the gym from May, and apart from acne on my face I really have had no side effects. My Cardiologist says it is likely bacterial infection from Pneumonia is what triggered my condition, and we will really never know if there were clots in the first place, or if they got dissolved by...

I have been on xarelto for two months now after a PE was found in my left lung. The only side effect was a consistent cough but doctor seemed to think that was due to the PE. That cough is now gone. So sorry to hear all the side effects others are dealing with. ## Hello, Dee! How are you? I'm very glad that this medication is working so well for you. Just as an FYI for others, the FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, joint/muscle aches, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Are there any questions or comments? ## Hi there I've been on xalterol 6 months and I've had back pain and shortness of breath and no energy and every time I go dr she says hang in there u only have 6 months to go I can't deal with it anymore th...

I have been on xarelto for 9 months for a PE i never had. I just seen a pulmonologist today and he said I didn't have a PE and I should stop taking them. I am very upset with my doctor and everyone that has taken care of me. My question is should I be worried about stopping them abruptly? ## Hello, Susan! How are you? There should be no reason to worry, since you've been given the all clear. As reported by the FDA, there may be some rebound blood thickening. Thus, it is best to check with your doctor first to make be sure whether or not there is a special procedure they want you to follow for stopping it. It's always better to extra cautious, when it comes to such things. How did you end up being diagnosed with a PE? ## Had some shortness of breath and a bad cough. Went to s...

Hi there, I am a 40 year old woman, recently had cramps in my left calf and shortness of breath. Went to the physician and was hospitalized for blood clots having run from my calf to my lungs. I am on Warfarin, but my doctor recommended Xarelto for the next three months. I have read so many reviews and came across legal cases against the company as there is no antidote. I'm so scared, should I continue with Warfarin then? ## Hello, Yusra! How are you? It's up to you, really. Though some people have had trouble with Xarelto, many have taken it without a problem. The U.S. FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising, so very similar to Warfarin. Can anyone that's taken Xarelto chime in with t...
