I'm currently on white Xanax bars..one says GG 2 4 9 down the bar and the other which may be generic says 1 1...meaning one half is 1 mg..the other half is 1 mg will equals 2 mg... I am having eye surgery in two days. I am used to .5mg Xanax and it calms me for flying and other things I have anxiety for. Don't take it often. My dr told me to take 5mg of Valium for surgery because it lasts longer then Xanax. I'm afraid this will not work as well. If Xanax and Ativan are both benzodiazapines, why did the Ativan work to relieve anxiety without causing depression but the Xanax didn't? ## It really depends on the person and how your body reacts to it. Just as an example, I'm fine with a low dose .5mg of Ativan, but if I take anything higher it makes me depressed and I feel very groggy for several days afterwards. However, there are other people that use it just fine without any problems. You really just have to figure out what works for you.
