Hi My daughter is 15 and was prescribed prednisone 20mg for inflammation brought on by an upper respiratory infection. She took the first dose about 1/2 hour after a meal and within 1/2 hour, she was experiencing severe abdominal cramping and nausea. She was able to vomit and it was clear with a few solids but mostly clear. I spoke with the doctor after the pharmacist recommended that it might be too much for her. The doctor said to continue and he called in anti-nausea. I really want to stop because she was so violently ill. Since it was only the first dose, will she be okay to stop. Just because symptoms went away, that doesn't mean that problem has resolved, yet, so you may end up right back where you started, if you don't finish the medication. I took double dose of prednisone 60mg in one day 9 hours apart for sinus infection. Should I be worried? ## I was given a 24 hr prednisone shot yesterday to help with my tight chest and coughing. They prescribed 60 mg for 3 days as I had been taking 40mg 2 days prior. I would like to split the dosage so I don't cough at night. I am also taking albuterol in a nebulizer every 4 hrs as the inhaler was not working as good as the treatments in the doctor's office. Can I split the dosage to 30mg twice daily so I can get relief from coughing while trying to get some sleep? Can someone take 10 mg of Prednisone then just stop or do you have to taper off? ## Just one tablet likely won't require a taper, but it's also not going to help you much, since that won't give it a chance to have much of a therapeutic effect in the body. My 20mg prednisone tablets have no expiration date. How long will they maintain their potency and life stored at room temperature around 78 to 82 degrees in fairly dry conditions? ## Hello, Gerry! If they are still in the original sealed bottle from the factory, then they have a 3 to 4 year expiration date, if kept in a cool, dark, dry location, which would be less than the temperature you've mentioned. If they are in a pharmacy bottle, which exposes them to the elements that cause degradation, then the expiration date is one year from the date they were dispensed to you. I have taken the 48 pac of prednisone before and it was a graduated dosage by the cards they were on - the prescription I received today was in a bottle and did not have any instructions on how to take them like the ones in the pac. Can you help? ## Are you starting to come off the med? I think you have to gradually come off it. But this current bottle must have a periodic schedule for it, only all at the same dosage. Can I still take them at this time after 3 yrs. ## Hello, Sissy! How are you? This medication doesn't become dangerous, once expired, but it does lose efficacy over time, so they will not work as well as they did, when new. It would be best to dispose of them. I have read alot of reviews here and on other web sites, but all I can say about this drug is...Where have you been...I am taking 5m tabs 12 a day for 5 days and it decreases to 10 for 4 days and 8 for 3 until you're down to one tab. I am taking it for a lower back pain caused by 2 degenterive discs and bone chips. It help straighten me up and eliminated 90% of the pain. My concern is what happens when I have to stop....I love this medication, and it has also cleared my vision where I no longer need cheaters...It works for me ## I have been off and on drugs for Chronic Neuropathy for 13 years.Nothing helps the pain.Now they want to put me on Prednisone and I am afraid of it.Does anyone have any horror stories on Predisone?I need to know before I commit myself to this...Please!! I had a allergic reaction to some makeup or cream and had very swollen and red eyelids/skin. Was prescribed 8 pills of 20 mg prednisone to take 2x/day for 4 days. I look so much better after taking the 3 pills, can I just stop now or is it like an anibotic and I need to finish the course of the pills? I was put on prednisone to try and raise platlets for an epidural Started - 15 October to 23 October - 9 days 30mg Then went into labour had 2 days without taking any (bit preoccupied) and had an emergency cesarean which resulted in a major hemorrhage on the 25th October In hospital they gave me - 26 October to 29 October - 4 days 90mg Then when allowed home they knocked it down to 60mg - 30 October to 1 November - 3 days 60mg They want me to taper off but my blood doc was unavailable (am in Spain and things aren't always as efficient here) Plus they didn't work anyhow!
