Fifty years ago I was only slightly allergic to penicillin with rash on my butt. Currently, I've been sick with a bug going around for a week and a half now. Almost better except my gland hurts when I swallow and swollen and still slight congestion in my chest. I have 500 mg of Amoxil in my home. Is this okay to take this? However, more information I'm finding states that there is some clinical and laboratory evidence of partial cross-allergenicity of the penicillins and the cephalosporins. Apparently there have been patients who reported severe reactions to both medications. So I don't think any exceptions should be made for Cephalexin in this regard either (at least to play it safe). I have copd and have developed bronchitis over the last week or so. I am allergic to penicillin.
