I have this medicine, it's an orange tablet/capsule with the inscription KALI on one side and the numbers 083 on the other. Is this a generic for Ultracet? ## Yes. You have the generic for Ultracet. I was just wondering what the effects of this pain pill are. Are they similiar to vicodin or norcos? ## I was on Ultraset in the past for a herniated disk. Ultraset is not as strong as Vicodin, Percocet. It is the lowest on the pole for the painkillers. Instead of weaning myself of the drug, I stopped immediately and had side effects. My muscles ache and I felt lethargic. ## Ultracet contains the active ingredients Acetaminophen and Tramadol, the Tramadol is derived from an opiate, but is not as effective at treating pain as an actual narcotic, which is why it is no longer classified as one. Does this drug cause headaches? ## It contains Tramadol, and Acetaminophen, so yes the FDA does warn that it may cause headaches as a side effect. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, constipation, and dry mouth. Are you on any other medications? Do you normally experience headaches? ## Another thing to consider, and may be a cause of headaches, is that tramadol has SNRI properties. These are anti-depressant effects. They do inhibit the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine and that could, also, potentially cause a headache. Considering ultracet has paracetamol in it, an analgesic commonly used to alleviate headaches, I would think that the other effects it has on the brain (mentioned above) are likely to cause headaches. I'm currently taking Ultracet medicine with a batch number of 417 that's listed as being manufactured on 08/16. I would like to know how to determine the expiry of the medicine? ## The U.S. FDA lists the expiration as being one year from the date you received them, unless they are still sealed in the original factory container, or blister packs. If they, they may be good for 4 to 5 years. The NIH lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. I have also been recently informed by a nurse practitioner, that the U.S. is the only country that requires expiration dates on medications. can ultracet pills be cut in half ## Hello, Ruann! How are you? Unless your doctor or pharmacist specifically instructs you not to do so, it is safe to cut or break any tablets that aren't time released. There are some that may be coated and can't be broken, because they may cause a lot of stomach damage without the coating…and of course, if a medication is time released, cutting or breaking it could cause you to get too much of the medication at once, which may result in overdose. Is there anything else I can help with?

My 87 year old father-in-law was given Ultracet for leg pain. Whereas he has had a very sharp mind and recall he now exhibits slowness when filling out doctor office forms. His eyes lack their usual luster and he is very unsteady with his hands and feet. APAP stands for Acetaminophen which does not work the same way as Aspirin or Ibuprofen, and it does not cause blood thinning. That's just my opinion looking at the images, but I consider them quite awful…and for anyone else looking, there are actually 3 different shades of this same tablet and the manufacturer calls all of them orange… However, one is bright red, one is more of the brownish color similar to the original Advil tablets and the other is much closer to orange.
