Has anyone ever heard of using this med for back pain? Or only taking it after 6:00pm AND then not being able to eat after taking it? ## I have never heard of using it for back pain. I used to take Topamax for my headaches and they went away within 2 months and Topamax made me lose a lot of weight. I'm 17 and I take Adderall XR, Zoloft, Klonoin, and Topamax. I have diagnosed with OCD, ADD, ADHD, and PTSD. I was reading that Topamax is mainly used for seizures and epilepsy. I have neither of those. Is there another use for this drug? ## While most drugs are only approved by the FDA to treat certain conditions, there is nothing that restricts doctors from prescribing it for other conditions, so many of them learn from experience that they can work for other things and will recommend them for those conditions that they have learned it previously helped treat. I cant stand the hideous side effects of any of the other bipolar drugs anymore .I take 450mg lithium now. Hoping topamax can work . ANYONE ON TOPAMAX? I was on this drug for a long time for a mood disorder. I kept complaining of shortness of breath on small amounts of excersise. My eyes started to droop and I couln't breath. The Dr. diagnosed me with Myathesia Gravis. I was on oxygen and palnning to die early. They gave me IVIG therapy and this didn't work. I have been taking Topamax for about 2 months now to treat bi-polar disorder and have been having some side effects. I was having some dizziness and pins and needles feelings in my feet but both of those seemed to have gone away. The thing that wont go away is the trouble breathing. It feels like I am having a panic attack but im not. It comes on at any time of day even when I am not stressed. It feels as if someone is sitting on my chest and I cant take a deep breath. I was prescribed topamax for migraines and was told i would get side effects of weight lost and depression ( was nervous to use because have suffered from eating disorders and depression before. I was completing my final year of high school and suffered bad migraines from increased studies. I started off taking 25mg then increased to 50. When I first start I felt fine, migraines were decreasing, expect I was eating alot less after being on it for about 6 months I only ate 2-3 times a week and had lost 17kg. I was on Topamax years ago under a doctor that is no longer practicing. I lost a great amount of weight. I have been on Topamax for about 4 months and am now having double vision. I was taking 25mg a day and was told by my eye dr and neurologist to stop taking it. I was taking it to prevent migraines. Hi, my baby started having seizures a month ago so has been put on topamax. They started him on 15mg which after three weeks seemed to finally settle him. He has started having seizures again so it has been uped to 25mg. He is very irritable and who knows what else as he is obviously a baby and cannot express himself. I'm going to be going back on Topamax after coming off it due to gastrointestinal issues. It is the only thing that keeps me from getting migraines and there is no pain involved with the stomach problems. However, the side effect is unpleasant. Basically I have liquid bowels when I use it. Even after taking it over 6 months. Will that go away or is there a way I can counteract that? ## What have you already tried to remedy that side effect? What does your normal diet consist of? The FDA warns that you should not follow any high fat, low carb diet while taking this medication. I have been on 50mg of Topamax for weight loss and recently had what appears to be my first attack of gout. If it is associated with kidney stones, could it also be associated with an increase in uric acid leading to gout? ## I have just finished taking topamax, and I can hardly move my left arm because of the pain of gout.Would be interesting to hear of anyone else., ## My fiance has developed what looks likes gout after being on topamax for about a week. I have a bottle of 25MG Topamax that I take 3 pills (75MG) at bedtime for extreme headaches that make my skull bulge where the pain is. I noticed that the pills expired 3/22/2011 but I no longer have medical insurance. Are they still ok to take? ## Topamax isn't a medication that gets dangerous, per se, after the expiration date. But it does start to lose effectiveness, so it will not work as well as it did, when it was new. The effectiveness will also be affected by how it was stored. Hi. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience entering Dubai with Topamax and not having a prescription for it? I can't see that it's on their restricted drugs list but can't be sure. Alternatively is it possible to buy Topamax over the counter at pharmacies in Dubai? Any help would be much appreciated. I started getting severe headaches back in high school. my migraines started in college, especially post college. I am almost 25. I was prescribed Maxalt to get rid of my migraines at first which did not help at all. my neurologist would up my dosage and to say the least, it was like tylenol. it did nothing. Relpax was like my miracle drug. my issue was that over the past year or two, my migraines worsened and because you're not supposed to take relpax more than twice a day or three times a week, I felt that taking a daily pill would be the best option. I have been prescribed Topamax for binge eating. This will be my third time taking it. Each time I go off of it I do so believing I can conquer my eating disorder myself; however, I have been unsuccessful in breaking the cycle. Topamax helps me calm my cravings and balance my moods. I have read that it is not as effective the more times one starts and stops the medication. I have only back on the medication a short two weeks and feel a very little difference; perhaps I am inpatient because I know what I did feel like prior to coming off of it. I first started on Topamax in 1999; no titration (which was hell) at something like 150 mg twice a day. It was wonderful, a miracle - for my Bipolar. I stayed on it for over 10 years, only going off because of new a Dr, new insurance. Then, last year in 2015 I started back on it. I can't even tolerate 100 mg A DAY in 2 doses. I become a raging B****! (Or cry in the middle of a crowded mall). I stopped it for months, then tried again. 25 mg twice a day did nothing. The Bipolar in me rather enjoys being a b**** except every body I know; all my family is pissed at me.
