I know the oxycodone HCL has some sort of salt in it and it’s just regular oxycodone. And I understand the IR is immediate release. Then they have extended release. But is the oxycodone HCL an extended or an immediate release?? Thank you! ## Oxycodone HCl just means the basic drug - the HCl is a salt that helps it dissolve. It does not tell you if it’s fast-acting or long-acting. - IR means immediate release (works quickly). - ER/XR means extended release (released slowly over hours). So, Oxycodone HCl can be either IR or ER. If your bottle doesn’t say ER/XR, it’s almost always the immediate-release kind. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OXYCODONE AN OXYCOTTON? ## It would depend on what formulation of Oxycodone you are talking about. Oxycontin contains Oxycodone, but in a time released formulation, so the medication is slowly released. Roxicodone contains Oxycodone, but in a regular release formulation, this one is also available as a generic. OxyIR contains Oxycodone in an immediate release formulation and is available as a generic, as well. Is there anything else I can help with?

Oxycodone or Oxycontin is this time released? Or immediate release? ## There are no generic formulations available of Oxycontin, there are only generics available of the instant release and the regular release. Additionally, the instant release is only available in 5mg capsules. Thus, if you have a tablet that does not have the OP marking and it is from the U.S., then it is fairly safe to assume that's most likely a regular release tablet.
