I was prescribed sulfameth trimeth ds 800 160, taking 2 tablets twice a day for 10 days to treat an infection located on the top of my foot. I completed taking all the pills as directed, two days later I was feeling drowsy and nausea and developed a rash over a large area of my abdomen and arms. If the rash is a side effect of the antibiotic how should I treat it? Doctors believe I have developed psoriasis could they be wrong? ## Hello, Adriano! How are you? I started taking Sulfameth Trimethoprim DS 24 hours ago. It is making me very sleepy, dizzy and slightly nauseated. Is this normal? Sulfameth/Trimeth 800/1APX and novo-Trimel DS 800/160mg and Septra DS 800/160mg - are these the same mediations except the one without the DS is single strength? ## All three of those medications appear to have the same dosage of Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim. The DS does stand for double-strength, however I'm not sure what the "1APX" stands for, as not even google can figure that one out Lol. Did you mean to put 160mgs? Whether or not it says DS at the end, it still seems to contain the same amount of Sulfamethoxazole as the others, and in therefore should also have the same amount of Trimethoprim. It's actually a sulfonamide. So as long as you aren't also allergic to sulfa drugs, there shouldn't be any problems in my opinion. Additionally, my thoughts are that if the doctor was already aware of your allergy to penicillin, he/she probably wouldn't make the mistake of prescribing something that was related to it. I took sulfamethoxazole trimethoprim 800/160 mg which expired 2 years ago; but i only took half and I have had a headache all day. Can I now take ibuprofen for the headache?
