What Blood Pressure Medication Does Not Have Sulfa

I need a list of blood pressure medications that do not contain sulfa as I have an allergy to sulfa and so far have been on 4 different meds that all made my throat swell. I took: Lisinopril, Amlodipine, Metoprolol, Methyldopa. So it’s generic or sulfa that’s the problem in these. ## How severe was the swelling? Was this diagnosed by a doctor? Did you go to the ER for treatment? It isn't that they all contain sulfa, it is that they might be based on it, somewhere down in their roots of derivation. In many cases, the only thing you can do is try medications, to see which ones work for you, and which ones cause a bad reaction, according to FDA warnings. Was the swelling bad enough to cause trouble breathing? I am not trying to be mean, or say I don't believe you, but m...

When are you checking it? Is it before, or after activity? Before or after eating? Can bactrim ds 800 160 tab elevate blood pressure for someone who has hypertension but taking meds for that. ## Hi Paula, Based on my research, there have actually been several reports from other patients stating that Sulfamethoxazole/Trimethoprim was the alleged cause of their hypertension. However it appears the manufacturer has failed to list hypertension in their drug monograph as a potential side effect. If you are experiencing such symptoms, my suggestion would be to keep track of and monitor your blood pressure before and after each dose. This way you can show your doctor the effect it's been having with proof over an extended or short period of time. I hope this helps!

My sister has symptoms from some drug she was on. Her hands and feet have very dry, deep cracks in them. She is been treated for high blood pressure and is allergic to sulpha. The drugs have been changed a few times. In January she was taking Olmetec and this is when the symptoms starting showing up in February. The doctor has prescribed Celexa to help calm her stress level in hope of lowering the blood pressure. She takes imovane for sleeping. Olmetec has talc, could these be causing her symptoms on the feet and hands? Or could it be something in shampoos or conditioners? ## If she is taking Olmetec plus (contains water pill), I found out the hard way, the water pill has a sulpha component. ## Hello, Brenalee! I'm allergic to bactrim with sulfer can I take bio-flex ## There is a risk that you could be allergic to other sulfa substances, especially since being allergic to one increases your risk of being allergic to others, as reported by the NIH. I found out that I am allergic to Bactrim, but I've taken these supplements without problems in the past and I take some sulfa based blood pressure medications without issues, but not all. Thus, I think it would be best to consult your doctor first, for your own safety. Are you allergic to any other medications?

I have a lousy cold (heavy coughing, headache, very weak,). Doctor gave me this medication. I take meds for HBP, cholestorol, thyroid. Is this ok to take for this. Im 79 ## He gave you an antibiotic to treat cold symptoms? That really makes no sense, a cold is caused by a virus and this will nothing to clear it up or treat the symptoms. This will only help if you have a bacterial infection of some type. Learn more Bactrim details here. Additionally, this is a sulfa based antibiotic and it is notorious for causing crazy side effects, that coupled with your age and high blood pressure means it may cause you some problems if you have a bad reaction to it. Lisinopril and sulfamethhydrothiazide was prescribed. Drug flier suggested cardiac problems with this combiation. is that true? ## Did you mean Lisinopril with Hydrochlorothiazide? I'm not sure if you're mixing up drug names here, since Sulfamethoxazole is something different and is unrelated to Lisinopril and Hydrochlorothiazide. Lisinopril with Hydrochlorothiazide is a combination medication that is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. And, as is true of any medication, there are always risks associated with using them, but the important thing to remember is that your risk is much greater if you let a cardiac condition, such as high blood pressure, continue uncontrolled and untreated. Have you spoken to your doctor about your concerns?
