Wellbutrin Weight Gain
58 Topics FoundI began taking Wellbutrin about a year and a half ago. I started at 200 mg. And am still at that dosage. It caused me to lose about 30 pounds, which is great. It gave me energy and suppressed my appetite. But within the past few months I've noticed the medicine doesn't work as well as it used to and I'm gaining the weight back dramatically and my diet is the same. My question is, if my doctor ups the dosage, would it help me lose weight again? Or is my body already used to the medication to where it wouldn't be as beneficial as when I began? ## Hello, Hans! How are you? Upping your dose may help, it usually does cause the side effects to recur, which is basally what you want. Alternatively, you could ask your doctor about trying Contrave, it contains the same active ingr...
I took 300mg of generic wellbutrin for about two years and lost about 10 lbs in the process. Over a few months of tapering off it (and going on the nuvaring) I've gained about 25 lbs. Now I've been off of it for 3 weeks and the depression has come back. I plan on going back on it once it's been a full month off and I want to know if I can expect the same kind of weight loss the second time around or if my body is already used to it? ## Hello, Jill! How are you doing? It's kind of hard to say. If the weight gain is solely related to the Nuvaring, then no, you may not lose it on the Wellbutrin. Learn more Wellbutrin details here. The best thing to do would be to consult your doctor and get their input on the situation. It is possible that the weight gain is just related to...
I'm a 26 year old female taking 450mg once daily. I've been on Wellbutrin for proabably about a year and a half and it helps so much with depression and it helped me lose weight! The pounds were dropping! I also was doing weight watchers but even when I ate horrible I would lose or not gain, at all! Now.... it's not helping me with weight loss? My depression is at bay but it's not helping me keep weight off anymore... has anyone else have this happen? Idk what to do... advice please. ## Wellbutrin by itself is generally weight neutral and doesn't cause weight gain, or weight loss. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and mood changes. Has anything else changed, such as your diet, or activity levels? Are you on any ...
I'm a 58 year old woman who had a total hysterectomy at 48 years of age, taking hormone replacement (estradiol cream) I started on Wellbutrin 150 mg., by Sandoz, (pink pill) and was on it for maybe 3 weeks. Did nothing for me. However, I seemed to be angrier and more emotional. Dr increased dosage to 200 SR which I've been taking for a week. Wellbutrin has been in my system for 1 month now and there has been some slight improvement not much. My dr mentioned she might include Effexor with it. Actually my Dr wanted me to take Effexor instead of Wellbutrin, but I preferred Wellbutrin because I was concerned about the weight gain. All I know is that I'm experiencing some of what I did not want on an antidepressant. Although I have not gained weight, I'm hungry, itchy at time...
i feel agitated, feel like just crying all the time, snappy and anxiety is at a high ## I took Wellbutrin for years and one effect is anxiety. I had anxiety about anything and everything-it never stopped--till i stopped wellbutrin. Now I feel normal again. ## Bupropion xl 300 mfg zydus has horrible side effects... don't take! Not everyone experiences such a side effect, so there's no way to know if it will happen to you, or not, but the possibility is there. Normally, I'd tell someone not to worry about it, but given your psychological state and the fact that the gain h...
I have been on Pristiq now since November of 2008...not quite 5 months...and I have put on 15 lbs since starting it. DESPITE working out with a trainer at the gym twice a week weight training, 3 days a week of cardio AND counting calories. My doc assured me that I would also have a decreased appetite on Pristiq, which I have yet to find true...so he has now increased my dosage to 400 mg. Does anyone have anything to add to this?? I'm just frustrated! ## i was switched to pristiq a few months ago and just recently wellbutrin was added - i take 1 of each pill per day - it has done nothing to me in gaining weight - i am continuously losing but i have some emtional things going on right now which i believe the weight loss is contributed too - unfortunately i have run into many that have...
Can I change from Camcolit to Wellbutrin as I have gained a lot of weight!!!!! I am on a high dosage in the morning and evening of Camcolit. I feel very unhappy about that . I feel I should be able to take Meds that doesn't affect the way I feel about myself and look.I want to loose weight and read that Wellbutrin helps weight loss ## Hello, Cheri! How are you? I am very sorry about the issue you're having from the Camcolit. However, I have to caution against switching, without your doctor's approval and assistance. These two medications are not completely interchangeable, since Camcolit is actually a mood stabilizer and Wellbutrin is an antidepressant, as classified by the NIH. While they can sometimes be used to treat the same conditions, only your doctor can decide if it ...
I've been taking Wellbutrin XL 150 (brand name) for 2 weeks. Will I experience withdrawal symptoms (weight gain) if i stop now? ## Hello, Luckytr! How are you? No, there shouldn't be any severe withdrawal symptoms, after such a short period of time, but it's always best to double check with your doctor to be sure. Weight gain wouldn't be considered a withdrawal symptom. As listed by the FDA, they usually include nausea, dizziness, diarrhea and depression. Is there anything else I can help with?
Has anyone else had bad experiences with the Zydus Wellbutrin XL? I responded really well to 2x150mg of the Activis brand, for about 6 weeks but 10 days on Zydus 300mg was like coming off it all cold turkey. Nothing done, scatterbrained, tearful and like I was back at square one! Thank God my Walgreen pharmacist had heard this before, called my Dr to get a new Rx for 2x150 Activis and squared it away with my insurance company. Is there anything that can be done? ## I had a 3 month supply of zydus wellbutrin...and it is summer and I feel the most depressed I have felt in a long time. I saw your post and I am going to talk to walgreens and see if I can't try another prescription. I have gained weight and thought when summer came I would feel better. But yesterday was my birthday and I...
So I have been on Lexapro 10mg for a few years and I didnt feel as if it was helping me at all. Plus I was always tired and gaining weight. My doctor suggested switching to wellbutrin. He told me to take a 150mg wellbutrin and lower my Lexapro dose to 5mg for 2 weeks, then to take 300mg wellbutrin and stop Lexapro. I am almost at the 2 week make and I feel like I have so many side effects and I don't know if it's withdrawal or the new meds, or a combo of both, or maybe I am getting sick? I have headaches, nausea, loss of appetite, lightheaded, out of it, dry mouth, stomach pain, gas, jittery, and heart palpitations at times. I'm afraid to start the 300mg and stop the Lexapro in a few days. Do these sound like symptoms of the withdrawal and starting up those drugs? Its not go...
I've been on Wellbutrin since late February. Started on 75mg went up to 300mg. Was experiencing anxiety and over eating. Carbs and sweets cravings. And worst of all I'm still depressed. I'm really seriously thinking of going to see my dr to get me off this crap! The last I need is to gain weight and still feel like crap! Really I think I'm done. It's has always been difficult for me to find and antidepressant that works for me.. Not sure what to do. I also notice I'm angrier on this medication. I need some input please if anyone is experiencing or just how long it took for Wellbutrin to work for them ?? ## Hello, Glam Ma! How are you? It usually only takes 4 to 5 weeks for a medication such as this to reach its full level of efficacy, so if it isn't working o...
Hi I am hoping to start wellbutrin xl next monday..I'm rather nervous & I hope you guys dont mind if I ask some questions.. 1- I have pretty much accepted that brand name is out of the question..I have the option of going to CVS that has watsons brand, Walgreens that has Mylan, or Wal Mart that has Activas (ps..I'm not looking at my notes & am trying my best to remember the names so please ignore my bad spelling :] ) Which off brand has worked best for you..so far I'm leaning towards the Watson..but would love some more feed back 2- I do not think I will be able to function at all if this makes me gain weight, especially since most of my depression & issue is my weight...has anyone had any weight gain from the generic? 3- I live in TX & have blue cross..I cal...
Has anyone experienced weight gain and are any of you just feeling stuck or unmotivated? I take 20 mg a day and feel bored. When I take Wellbutrin, Prozac and Topomax it made me mean. ## I take Lexapro 10 mg a day and I have gained excessive weight. I have tried Celexa, which I loved. I felt so good the first nine months I was on it, but guess what, it causes excessive weight gain with prolonged use. I have also been on Zoloft, which helped the depression, but I did not feel anything. Everything in my life was whatever. Kind of like the stuck feeling you are describing. I wish there was something that does not cause you to gain weight, lets you feel motivated, and has low sexual side effects. Any clues anyone ## I have taken Paxil and Lexapro. Now I am on Wellbutrin XL and feel great. M...
Hi. I am a teacher and have children with immune deficiencies who require a lot of attention and infusions every month. I am on Wellbutrin and Prozac. He is now weaning me off the Wellbutrin and starting me slowly on epitec. First 25mg, then 50mg, then 100mg, then 150mg. He said it is to help me cope with my circumstances and make me “thicker skinned”, not because I have bipolar. I am very confused because some people say that epitec has a side effect of gaining weight and others say it has helped them lose weight. I am absolutely paranoid about putting on weight. I eat quite healthily but not when I’m stressed, and I don’t have time for exercise. Thank you, please tell me the percentage of people who gain weight on Prozac and epitec together? ## Hello, Margie! H...
My doctor has me on Lyrica(300mg), Cymbolta (twice a day) and welbutrin(twice a day. I have gained 20 pounds in 4 months. I had to go to a nuerologist for nerve pain in my arm after a fall. He immediately wanted to take me off of the lyrica. He said the mixture of medication is not good and is what is causing me to gain weight. Please help me I thought the lyrica was working great...
Filed under Lyricaokay im freaking out, im 19 around 110 pounds and im 5'3 im on prozac 20mg wellbutrin 300mg and busbar 30mg i just got prescribed neurontin 400mg for my mood disorder i have a huge obsession with weight and binge eating problems and finally the medication im on now controls my hunger and im so scared to gain weight i literally cant or i will freak out literally im just wondering if adding neurontin will make me gain weight im so nervous i wont take it if it does. ## Hi Naya, Based on my research, some have gained weight while taking Neurontin. I've read that the weight gain is more so due to water retention which can be resolved with water pills or diuretics. Some have complained of an increase in appetite, and if you eat foods high in saturated fats, sodium, and carbs then that...
Do anti depressants in general cause weight gain? ## Yes, most of them do cause it as a side effect, there are some that are known to cause it less frequently than others, but as whole, it's usually expected of most antidepressant medications. If you want to avoid it happening, you can talk to your doctor about prescribing the ones that cause lower instances of it and you can also try to increase your activity levels, as well as being very careful about your diet. Are there any other questions or concerns?
Due to weight gain and dwindle effect, my doctor switched my anti-depressant from Effexor XR. He told me to stop the Effexor XR immediately and start the Wellbutrin XL. He said to take the Wellbutrin XL for one week then start the Pristiq. FOr those of you who have stopped Effexor you probably know what I'm going to say next. It started with dizziness, rhythmic pulsating in my head, nausea and generally feeling like a slug. It's like my brain had a severe case of the flu. It was horrible. Now, I'm having with the dizziness and throbbing in my head, what feels like a hot flash but my face gets flushed and very hot. I feel as though I want to throw up. I called the doctor and stopped the Wellbutrin right away after about 3 days. I also called the pharmacist and he told me to t...
I am moving from Effexor XR to wellbutrin xl because of severe weight gain. I have been trying to wean myself off to start the new medicine but I can't side the moodiness. Can I go ahead and start Wellbutrin if I have only moved from 150 Effexor to 75 so the change isn't do traumatic? ## What has your doctor advised? I really wouldn't suggest mixing the two, unless your doctor advises you to do so, since they both act in similar ways, on similar chemicals in the body. ## For over 12 years I've been on Effexor Venlafaxine XR 150 mg, taking it as my doctor prescribed "at 7 pm". I gained lots of weight over the years, and I could never fall asleep at a normal hour, &I never slept through the night. I cried often this past year, and I felt that it just wasn't...
