Heavy cough ## I was prescribed Tussionex syrup for an acute bronchial infection, along with an antibiotic and an inhalant. I took the Tussionex before I went to bed, and was not able to sleep a wink all night. I had a similar reaction to another cold medication about 5 years ago. Is this common? Have others reported this? ## how do you treat Tracheitis? ## I TOOK IT FOR 3 MONTHS WHEN I HAD WHOOPING COUGH LAST YEAR. I AM 70 YRS OLD. IT IS THE BEST THING TO STOP A COUGH SO I COULD GET SOME SLEEP. I WENT TO THE ER at the hospital. The ER doctor said it was the best cough medicine there is. I finally could sleep. When I went to get my prescription filled the cost was $147.00. I had to tell them to put it back of the shelf. I am on disability, At some point I need to have heart transplant. IS TUSSIONEX SUPSPENSION A YELLOW COLOR??? ## I have been taking Tussionex Ext-rel sus medeva and have neen prescribed the Penn form. Are they the same? Is there any medication that will do the same thing for use for asthma, chemical sensitivities and coughing due to allergic rhinitis? Is there a cheaper medication? This is running me about 300.00 a bottle!

why can't this medicine be found today. It was the only thing that would stop my mom from coughing. She is 86 years old and coughs so violently that I am afraid it is going to kill her. Her Dr. has tried many things but to no avail nothing has worked. Her Dr. says that this medicine has been discontinued. I have tussionex ext rel sus cell thats 6 years old. is it ok to take ? ## Hello, Fred! How are you? No, liquids have very short life spans, they tend to degrade very fast. Many even go rancid and could make you sick, so a 6 year old one isn't safe to take. If you need this medication, you should see your doctor for a new prescription. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I took 6-year-old Tussionex Pennkinetic Susp and it worked the same as when it was new.

I have cough variant asthma and must take tussionex. I was happy about the generic until I tried it. The suspension is not right. A lot of it winds up dried in useless chunks on the side of the bottle. Also, of secondary concern, it tastes and smells bad. I took my prescription to be filled and they only have half. When I picked up the second half, I was greeted by the bad smell when I opened it (at home, days later). I think this second half is the generic mixed with some reall tussionex. It's scaling on the side of the bottle now. So, this tells me it's the generic. The generic does not take care of the coughing. But, I paid extra to get namebrand. I have used Tussionex Pennkineticsusp for years and never had any problems. Recently I got the generic version, took it once. I felt dizzy and nauseated and light headed all day. Will now go back to the regular version. I always thought that generic should be the same, but it is not. Taste different too. ## The taste is really irrelevant, that just depends on what flavoring agents the manufacturer uses and it has no bearing on the efficacy of the medication. However, no generics don't have to be 100% exactly the same as the name brands. Under the laws of the U.S. FDA, they are allowed to differ, in the active ingredients, by as much as plus or minus 20%. I found a bottle on which the name of the medicine appears as follows..Tussionex susp (cell) xactly like that. Does this medicine contain hydrocodone? And why is it yellow?
