Filed under TramadolI mostly read stories of people having problems about drugs. Side effects, unavailability, cost, etc. I have chronic pain from longstanding injuries in Vietnam that create more pain as I am in my 70th year. I have taken most anti inflammatory meds, opioids, electrical stimulation, etc. over the last 5 decades. Tramadol is the only medicine that relieves enough pain while allowing me to function during the day. I have taken Tramadol exclusively for at least 5 years. The best benefit, aside from pain relief, is non-escalating doses. I began taking 50 mg 3 times a day. Today I take 100 mg 3 times a day, which has been my dose for the last 2 years. Previous drugs, with oxycodone or hydrocodone inevitably required higher daily intake resulting in decreased effectiveness and constipation, irr...
Can these medications be taken with hydrocodone and Acetaminophen in one for real bad back pain? ## Can they be taken together ? They should not be taken together. Have I mixed them YES. I had no issues on low doses but it is not recommended to mix these. ## @clydesdales8, Just to add to post #1, drug interaction checkers (from umm.edu) go on to state that taking Tramadol with Hydrocodone is usually not recommended due to an increased risk of developing certain side effects, including: loss of coordination, dizziness, slurred speech, confusion, changes in perceived mental awareness, and slow or shallow breathing - in which case they recommend contacting your doctor immediately. Although, as post #1 mentioned, it is also equally important to remember that each individual is prone to reac...
I have been taking tramadol for about a week. The last time was about 24 hrs before I took lortab 10/325 and it seems like the Lortab did not work at all? how long till the Lortab will work again? ## I don't think it ever will work the same if you have been on tramadol for a long period of time. But a week shouldn't have any affect on the lortab not working. I used lortab before switching to tramadol and now when I get severe spine pain that lortab does Nothing . So I think ur body has to re adjust to it. This is my personal opinion . I am no Dr though :) ## Wow! You really shouldn't try to take multiple doses, at once, like it, it creates the risk of overdose, which could cause organ damage, failure, or death. The current FDA directions instruct you to only take one tablet,...
Can you use low doses of Tramadol and Celexa (citalopram) on the same day? 20 mg of Celexa a day and 50mg of tramadol as needed, so not everyday usage on the tramadol. ## Using them together is generally not recommended. Both Tramadol and Celexa can raise levels of Serotonin in the brain, if the levels go too high, it may result in Serotonin Syndrome, which can be fatal. Learn more Tramadol details here. Learn more Celexa details here. Has your doctor prescribed them both for you? They are sometimes used together, but it requires caution and very close, regular monitoring. ## Thanks! The tramadol is an old prescription and I didn't think to ask my doctor since I dont take it very often. Thats scary, I think I wont mess with the combination and maybe when I get a flare up I'll ta...
I have read several posts that mention the risk of seizures related to stopping Tramadol. Could anyone give me more information about this? Any additional information on withdrawal symptoms would be also appreciated as well as the symptoms and risks of being on very high dosages. ( I have seen mention about "Serotonin Syndrome" related to Tramadol - what is that and what are the symptoms?) Thanks in advance for all info !! ## In most cases, for the risk of seizures to be present, someone would have to be taking high doses for a long period of time and then just stop taking it abruptly, so they go into full withdrawal. Learn more Tramadol details here. If you check out the link I've posted above and scroll down to the 'Physical dependence and withdrawal" section, you&...
is it safe to take tramadol between doses of oramorph ## Has your doctor prescribed them to be taken this way? If not, I would say you shouldn't, because they are both analgesics and you do run the risk of an overdose or causing permanent organ damage. Here's the links to more information on both of these medications: Have you spoken to your doctor about your concerns?
I have been taking Tramadol for almost 10 years in high doses 600 to 1000mg a day. I lead a productive life have a family but i know its time to stop. I cant even remember why I started taking Tramadol. I'm looking for any advice or experences amnyone else has had with withdrawing. ## Hello, DD! How are you? Since you've been taking doses that high, withdrawing could be dangerous and stopping it may be complicated, thus, it would really be best to get medical assistance doing so. The FDA lists the typical withdrawal effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, fatigue, diarrhea, fever, chills and seizures. Can anyone else chime in with their experiences? ## Yes, me to!! I take about the same amount or more a day. I have wanted to stop a bunch of times. I'm a middle aged ...
on oramorph 10mg 4 times a day and tramadol 100mg 4 times a day still in pain are they cancelling each other out ## No, I was othe same recently and they will be augmenting each other not cancelli out. If you are still in pain, speak to your doctor about upping your morphine (you've already maxed the tramadol there) I'm on 30mg plus 100mg tramadol which is controlling my pain much better. ## How long have you been taking them? As George said, they shouldn't be canceling each other out, but it may be time for a dosage adjustment. There's also the possibility that one, or both just aren't the right medications to help you and you may need to try different ones. There is also an extended release Tramadol that is available in 200 and 300mg doses. ## If a may suggest perh...
shape and color of tramadol 37.5/325 ## ovol shaped light blue r 753 ## To the original poster, if two doses are listed, it would actually be a generic for Ultracet, which contains Acetaminophen, and Tramadol. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. Can you please post back with the markings on it? Since it is available as a generic, it isn't possible for me to post descriptions of all of them for you. But if you can share the markings, I will gladly check for you to confirm what the tablet contains. Joe, Actavis lists that tablet as containing 5mgs of Glyburide and 500mgs of Metformin, it is most commonly used to treat diabetes. The FDA lists its typical side effects ...
Multiple knee surgeries; bone spur on L heel secondary to limping on right leg for years; spondylolysthesis in back. Prescribed 1-2 Percocet(s) per night (5-325) to help sleep and Tramadol (50mgs, up to 4Xday). If my first 2 Trams haven't touched my pain (fell 2 days ago), would taking the remaining 2, plus the Percocets, have any kind of additive analgesic effect? Or would the stronger Perc render the Tram unnoticeable? Should mention I'm a pill horse: since childhood, I've had to take higher doses to get effects, w/ any drugs. I'm 5'11" and 185. ## Hello, Tristan! How are you? No, you shouldn't take more than prescribed, per dose, or you may overdose. Both of these medications are considered opiate analgesics, so taking more at once could place you at risk....
My skin feel funny if I don't take one every morning, just once a day, and I be in a lot of pain ## Hello, Baby girl! How are you? The FDA classifies Tramadol as an opiate, so it carries the risk of being habit forming. Thus, if you're skipping doses, you may be experiencing withdrawal effects. They are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, rebound pain, diarrhea and depression. What dosage are you on and how long have you been taking it?
I took hydrocodone about 4 hours ago and I have some old tramadol. I have such a bad headache. Will it be OK to take this tramadol? ## You can do so, as long as your doctor approves, but you should be aware that these opioids can cause headaches as a side effect, according to the FDA and the NIH. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I've read a lot about seizure risks and such when mixing the two, but no one ever talks about doses in those posts and I'm looking to stay safe. Would (1) 5mg hydrocodone and (1) 200mg tramadol be safe and okay? I have no tolerance to opiates. I currently have a cough so bad it's giving me intense migraines every day and I'm kinda in the boat as finals m...
I was just wondering if anyone knows the difference between tramadol Hcl and tramadol? Every time I get a prescription its a different kind of tramadol,I didn't know there is so many different kinds...thank you ## Hi Car, Based on my research, Tramadol Hcl is just an extended release version of Tramadol. It is meant to be taken once every 24 hrs and should continue to work throughout the night and day. It comes in doses of 100 mg up to 400 mg. Learn More: Tramadol Details I hope this info helps!
Hi...I have been on tramadol for several years for restless leg syndrome and arthritis in my hip... What can i take instead of tramadol that is just as effective. My rls is really bad. My hips also particularly at night. Can you suggest anything i can ask my doctor? I take 50mg every 6 hours or so sometimes it doesnt help. Tysm! ## Hello, Rose! How are you feeling? I'm sorry that you're in so much pain. Tramadol is very mild opiate, so most others are stronger and would likely help you more, even in low doses. The FDA classifies this medication as an opioid analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. However, there are also higher doses of Tramadol available that your doctor...
taking 900mg gabapentin, 100mg tramadol hcl, 1200 Ibuprofen for deg. disk, spinal stenosis arthritis, neuropathy. have hbp also. is this bad? ## Taking the Tramadol with the Gabapentin can cause an increase in depression of the central nervous system, so you should be careful to watch for any danger signs, such as shallow breathing, severe sedation and lowered heart rate. Learn more Tramadol details here. Learn more Gabapentin details here. How much of the Ibuprofen do you take? Since you have high blood pressure, you also may want to discuss your use of it with your doctor, because taking high doses over a long period of time may cause elevated blood pressure and fluid retention. Learn more Ibuprofen details here. ## I've been taking tramadol and Neurontin together for severe PHN f...
Can oxymorphone 40mg with an imprint of G74 be broken to where I can take a quarter of the pill? They seem too strong... I told the Dr and then he gave me Ultram - no happy medium. ## No, it is not safe to cut or break this tablet, since it is a time released formulation of Oxymorphone. The FDA warns that these medications carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. Have you tried the Tramadol to see if it works for you? ## There are much lower doses of the oxymorphone. It's surprising your doctor started you on the highest dose. I'd try maybe the 20mg. That's if you are still looking for that medium.
Can I take my tramadol tonight after taking 25 mg ephedra this morning ## @Marcella, Based on information I'm finding pertaining to drug interactions, in my opinion it would be best to wait at least a day or two in between doses. Reason being is that both Tramadol and Ephedrine are known to cause seizures individually, and taking the two together in such a short time frame may increase your risk of seizures THAT much more. So it's probably just a good idea to play it safe if you have any reservations about this. The estimated half life of Tramadol is reported to be up to 6-7 hours, whereas half the dose you took and then half of that half would be divided every passing 6-7 hours until it's no longer working in your body. If you calculate this from the point of your first dos...
Im on quetiapine MR 700mgs a day i also take sertraline 100mgs a day , tramadol 200mgs daily , depakote 1000mgs daily, and zolpidem 10mgs at night , my doctor is thinking about putting me on mirtazapine 45mgs daily i wanted to know if this is safe with all my other meds i have mentioned ? ## Many of the medications you've listed can affect serotonin levels, so adding another one creates the risk of your developing serotonin syndrome, which can be dangerous. It's not that they can't be combined, but it must be done very carefully, with the doses taken under careful consideration and the patient being regularly monitored. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Mirtazapine as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings and weight gain. Are you seei...
Given OxyContin Extended Release 40mg per 12 hours in place of Methadone 10mg four times daily. Always given for pain by MD, 20 years now. Initial dose 20 yrs ago was 200 mg daily, got myself down to 120 mg daily, then down to 40mg (all of these in four doses, that took 3 years). I've been on OxyContin ER for one month along with Vicodin for breakthrough and Tramadol. Nothing really works. Can't sleep, eat or care for myself. The reason I'm off Methadone is because insurance said I would need to pay for it and I can't. Back with my parents and they are lost in this situation. On OxyContin I get relief for about 4 hours (after it takes close to an hour to start relief). They are the worst. I just want Methadone back but it has ruined and ruled my life. No marriage, no chi...
