I'm currently dealing with a tooth infection and unfortunately, I can't get an appointment with my dentist until Tuesday, and today is Friday. My wife has Cefdinir at home. Would that help reduce the swelling in my face? ## Hello, Witchdr! How are you feeling? I'm sorry about the dental infection. According to MedlinePlus, “Cefdinir is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria such as bronchitis, infections of the skin, ears, sinuses, throat, and tonsils. Cefdinir is in a class of medications called cephalosporin antibiotics. It works by killing bacteria.” [1] So while it can be used to treat oral infections, it may take several days to start having an effect and it may not reduce swelling immediately. To do that, it has to start eradicating the infecti...

I went to MedDirect early Monday morning crying I was in so much pain. I've had an abscessed tooth for a little over 6 months now, but financially we are barely making it paycheck to paycheck, so I haven't been able to get it pulled. They said it would be a couple hundred for just the x-ray, and $375 just to get that one tooth out. So, I couldn't get it done. I was crying Saturday and Sunday because of how bad it was, plus I also have scoliosis that I haven't been able to be seen for and I could barely move for three days prior to visit. I tell him my issues, he looks inside my mouth, prescribes me ibuprofen and was going to do penicillin, but Penicillin always makes me puke, Amoxicillin is fine though...which I told him, but he prescribes me Cefdinir 300mg, which was $9...

However, you do need to be sure that it is an infection that calls for an antibiotic and that you have enough of the antibiotic to completely a full course of treatment. Learn more Cefdinir details here. Have you seen a dentist? ## Can I take cefdinir 250ml for an abscess in my mouth caused by a bad tooth my face is swelled..I'm allergic to penicillin... I have been prescribed antibiotics for tooth infections before having dental work and pain went away. I'm allergic to penicillin can i take cefdinir? if I take cefdinir for this and I don't have an infection will it hurt me? ## It is a different antibiotic, but there is always a risk of discovering that you're also allergic to it. People allergic to one medication tend to find out there are others they are allergic to and if you don't have an infection, taking it could cause you to develop antibiotic resistant bacteria. Thus, you should only take it if your doctor or dentist confirms that you do have an infection. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can hel...

I thought the cefdinir would have kept me from having an abscessed tooth since I'm already on it for bronchitis. Why isn't it working for both? My tooth has a cap on it but needs the cap removed and a root canal done and a cap replaced... ## With the cap still on the tooth, there is a chance that it isn't able to properly drain to allow the infection to fully clear up. A dental abscess forms a pocket down in the roots, similar to that formed by a cyst, and it has to drain, or be drained, to clear out the bacteria that has caused the infection. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Cefdinir as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. You may need another round of antibiotics, once the cap is removed, and the root canal is done....

Can you take Cefdinir (300 mg) for a tooth infection? ## Hi, Bonnie! It's usually only used to treat some specific infections. There are others that are much more effective at treating dental infections. Have you consulted your dentist? If you have a dental infection, not only do you need an appropriate antibiotic, but you need to have the underlying issue that caused the infection corrected, or the infection will just keep returning. ## Hi, I found several capsules, purple/teal, which I know is an antibiotic. Can you tell me what infection this is used for? There are also several triangular pills, 0425 yellow on one side, US on white side. US. Can you help? ## 0425 US Triangle pill is: Norel AD (acetaminophen 325 mg / chlorpheniramine maleate 4 mg / phenylephrine hydrochloride 10 m...

i have an absess tooth and want to know if I can take Sulfamethoxazole-TMP-DS for this? ## An abcess tooth is tricky and may be dangerous depending upon the circumstances. Serious bone (i.e. osteomylitis) infections can develop if not cared for. Pen VK first, Amoxicillin is second and a third generation like Cefdinir would be an alternate choice with ampicillin allergies. Doxycycline is also used but the assessment should be made by either your dentist or your physician ## Can i take this sulfamethoxazole.tmp for a infection tooth ## Hi DeBorah, While Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim is used to treat various types of infections, tooth infections is not one that is listed under the medication guidelines. Additionally, taking an antibiotic like this can very well create medication-resistan...

I have a 9 year old daughter and she has a toothache, and i was wondering if this can be used for that type of infection? ## A two toned green capsule with the marking of Lupin 500 contains 500mgs of Cephalexin, which is an antibiotic that's used to treat various types of infections. Learn more Cephalexin details here. However, your daughter needs to see a dentist to determine what is causing the toothache, because even if it is an infection, then if the root cause isn't addressed, it will just keep returning. Are there any other comments or questions? ## A capsule that bis blue and purple says lupin on blue end and cefdinir on purple end

My post crown broke. The crown been in 3 years had root canal when crown put in.. The upper gum is real sore, no insurance. Is the soreness a possible infection and will CEFDINIR help till get money to have fixed.I called dentist and they will not use my crown to save cost so I can afford to get it fixed???? ## Without seeing it, it is hard to say, but there is a chance that it is infection and requires an antibiotic. The FDA lists typical antibiotic side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. There is no way they can promise that they can use the existing crown, because it might not be viable to do so, the tooth may need to be extracted. Do you have an emergency dentist in your area that can check it out for you?
