I just started taking Enalapril Maleate 5 mg 20 days ago. This is the first BP medicine that has been prescribed to me. On day 7, I was experiencing a dry cough daily. On day 17, I developed a sore throat, laryngitis and I was coughing up lots of flem. On day 18 and 19, my hands became very swollen. On day 20, my Dr. had me stop taking Enalapril Maleate 5mg. I was initially pleased with the medication because my BP dropped to 110/70, but the side effects were too severe to continue with Enalapril. ## Yes, those can be side effects that some people experience, when taking this medication, according to FDA reports. The dry cough is usually a warning sign, once it starts it doesn't tend to go away and you must switch to a different medication. I experienced it with Lisinopril and it dr...

Can I cut pill in half if needed? What body effects will I feel? ## Hello, Cat! How are you? As long as your doctor approves, you can cut or break any tablet that isn't time released, as long as the label doesn't specifically tell you not to do so. As to effects, it may cause some rebound effects, such as headaches, elevated heart rate and blood pressure, as reported by the FDA. Is there anything else I can help with?

a leveler for blood pressure ## Enalapril is an ACE inhibitor that is used to help lower blood pressure, certain cardiac conditions, and to improve heart function. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. However, there is no such thing as a blood pressure leveler. Your blood pressure will never hit one steady number, and stay there. It is always going to fluctuate, depending on what you've eaten, your activity levels, other medications you take, and etc. How is it working for you?

Can pharmapress cause kidney problems? I am using pharmapress, had a blood test and there is something wrong with my kidneys. ## Hello Jan, According to the National Institute of Health Pharmapress, a medication used to treat high blood pressure, contains the active ingredient enalapril maleate. Kidney issues is not listed among the known adverse reactions associated with enalapril maleat, in fact Pharmapress has reportedly been used to treat kidney failure. Is there any other types of medication that you are taking that could be causing this problem such as daily usage of an acetaminophen? Hopefully this helps a little. Have a wonderful day. ## Hello everyone. So I've been taking Pharmapress and have noticed it makes me brain dead, but if I stop using it, I feel awesome and if I us...

Been on 20mg/day of Enalapril. Then resently given a 0.2mg Clonidine patch. My blood pressure went "way" down. Should Dr. have checked first before giving me the Clonidine patch? Have stopped Enalapril while on "withdrawls" (pain med). ## What are you asking about him checking? Your blood pressure? Did the doctor tell you to stop the Enalapril? Because suddenly stopping it could cause a rebound effect, which might result in severely elevated blood pressure. ## Thanks for the reply. However, you didn't read my question fully. No, I'm not asking to have my BP checked! Should he be giving me Clonidine when I'm using Enalapril?? What effect will BOTH have?

I've taking Enalapril 20 mg nightly for over eighteen month. Suddenly I've noticed pounding heart at night, an d chest pains developed to the point I went ER. After a day admission and a bunch of testing they cleared me of problem. Came home have my prescribed dosis and the symptoms returned. Any thoughts of experiences with Enalapril, please? ## HI, sorry about the issues you're having. That's terrible. And yes, it could be an adverse reaction to the Enalapril. Technically, it should help with such issues, but most medications are capable of causing the opposite of their intended effect in some people that try them. However, another question is, do you regularly monitor your blood pressure? What was it when you went to the ER? The symptoms could also be caused by your b...

i am taking isoptin sr 120 mg{verapamil} for bradycardia and hypertension, but sometimes my bp is still high, can i take 2.5 mg of enalapril together to control the bp or is it harming ## They can be taken together and are sometimes prescribed together, when someone's blood pressure is very high and their doctor needs to bring it down fast. However, only your doctor can say if it is the right medication for you to try. How high is your blood pressure? Do you watch the fat and salt in your diet? As reported by the NIH, both can contribute to high blood pressure, in some people. The FDA lists the typical side effects of these medications as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension.

The dr. changed my bp meds. from 20mgs of enalapril twice daily to 20 mgs lisinopril once a day. I'm afraid this is not strong enough to take my bp down. BP runs around 169/90. Had a brain stem stroke 3 yrs ago. ## Actually, Lisinopril is known to be stronger and have more beneficial effect than Enalapril, so it is normal to be given a lower dosage of it. Learn more Lisinopril details here. As to your blood pressure numbers, what else do you to do to lower them? Do you get lots of exercise and make sure not to eat a lot of sodium? ## Yes I'm on a low sodium diet. As far as exercise, I exercise the arm on the stroke side, but am still really unbalanced as far as walking. Thanks for the answer. ## My dr. just changed me from enilapril to lisinopril and plans to reduce the dosage o...

I have major aniexities, are there any major side effects I should be concerned with? ## The FDA lists the typical side effects of Methocarbamol as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth. Metoprolol and Enalapril may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, increased urination and hypotension. There are not listed as having any interactions, when taken together, but it's always best to double check to be sure. Is there anything else I can help with?

Can Nitrofur-Macr 100mg be taken with keppra, trileptal, enalapril and prednisone? ## Hi TA, There's actually quite a few different interactions found between every medication you mentioned "except" for Nitrofu-Macr...you can view these interactions below: Enalapril and Prednisone: Corticosteroids may antagonize the effects of antihypertensive medications by inducing sodium and fluid retention. Prednisone and Trileptal (oxcarbazepine): Coadministration with oxcarbazepine may decrease the plasma concentrations of drugs that are substrates of the CYP450 3A4 isoenzyme. Keppra (levetiracetam) and Trileptal (oxcarbazepine): Central nervous system- and/or respiratory-depressant effects may be additively or synergistically increased in patients taking multiple drugs that cause thes...

My wife has had chest pain/tightness, getting dizzy, sleeping more than usual, ever since taking the blue-dyed enalapril malette 10 mg. pill, which she started taking 2-1/2 weeks ago. Before filling the current script, she had been getting pink pills for quite some time with no problematic side-effects. Both pills are generic, BTW... ## Hello, Sven! How is your wife doing? She needs to have this checked out by her doctor. There is a chance those symptoms could be related to a heart or circulatory problem, rather than the pill from a different manufacturer. It is most likely nothing, but chest pain is nothing to play around with, especially coupled with the other symptoms. Enalapril is classified by the FDA as an ACE inhibitor that is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and c...

SIDE EFFECTS ## kindly advise me a tablet for hypertension which does not have much side effects and without Atenolol and also acts better than other pills like enalapril, etc. My hypertension readings are as 160/110 ## Rohini, this site is not medical professionals, so we can't possibly guess which medication would be best for you.
