Prednisone Dosage

I accidentally took two doses of prednisone today..this is my first day taking it and its 50 mg..first time was right bedore 9 am and accidentally at 6 pm i obly have diarrhea and am a bit light on my feet and in head...should i be ok? ## How are you doing? Did you suffer any other adverse effects? My doctor prescribed 20mg of Prednisone to be taken 3 (60mg) at a time once a day. I took my first dosage around 3:30pm and accidentally took another 3 tables (60mg) around 11:30pm the same day. Should I be worried? What should I do? Thanks. ## Hi Bob, In the event of an overdose I'd probably call my prescribing doctor immediately and leave a message at the very least... If I felt my life was in danger I would've also called poison control. Accidentally, took 40 mg. of prednisone. How do I taper off the drug now? ## Hi Judy, If you overdosed on your medication and are concerned about the possible ramifications of having done so, I would encourage you to call the American Association of Poison Control at: 1 (800) 222-1222. Better safe than sorry, right? As far as a tapering plan goes, this is really something you and your doctor should work closely on developing in order to ensure that the instructions are tailored to your medical history and other pertinent/personal information. There is no one size fits all when it comes to starting or stopping any medication. I just hope you're feeling alright by now.

I was in ER this morning and was diagnosed with acute bronchitis...I was prescribed 20mg of prednisone 1x daily...my question is, the ER doc said if I started them tomorrow (Weds) that I would be in great shape by Sunday....as I'm leaving for vacation....He said 5 days, and I'll be good....he prescribed me 15 pills, which makes me think he meant 3x daily for 5 days???....however, bottle says 1x daily???....do you think this could be a mistake? ...thank you in advance! ## You should take it as directed by the doctor. Yikes. I accidentally took all my first day of Methylprednisolone pills at one time. Will I be ok? ## Hello, Ann! How are you? Did you experience any adverse effects? Usually, they are only spaced out to try to help minimize the side effects, as listed by the FDA, they may include nausea, dizziness, headache, nervousness, and insomnia, so taking them all at once, may worsen those effects. The last time I was on this, my pharmacist flat out told me that it was fine to talk them, all at once, if I preferred, so I did. If I did so in the morning, then the worst of the side effects were worn off, by the time I was ready to go to bed. It's always best to double check with your doctor to be sure, though. ## This was helpful.I took all 6 at once and thought I might have overdosed.

86 year old woman been prescribed 8 x 5mg tablets a day for a week can they be evened out over the day or do they have to be taken in one go ## Hi, Lyn! If her doctor didn't specify otherwise, she should be able to split them up throughout the day. Many times people are just told to take them all at once to make sure they don't forget to take the next dose later. It's been proven through medication compliance testing that people will usually remember to take one dose, but subsequent ones are typically forgotten. Hi - is it possible to have bad side affects from only a 7 day course of the drug prednisone? I've been battling bronchitis and was prescribed 20 MG of the drug last Monday (almost 2 weeks ago). I was prescribed 40MG the first day, then 20MG a day for the next 6 days (my last dose was last Sunday). My bronchitis is alot better, but everyday I've had these wierd sinus headaches and diziness that start about noon and get worse throughout the day. I also had really bad insomnia - didn't sleep for almost 2 days after finishing the prescription. I've been taking Tylenol PM which has thankfully allowed me to sleep, but I don't like how I'm feeling during the day. I also feel alot of fatigue and bloating (my legs especially). I was prescribed prednisone and an antibiotic for a sinus infection. The Methylprednisone came in the 6-day pack of 4 mg pills. However, my prescription said "1 tablet a day" so I assumed I should take 1 a day for 21 days instead of following the instructions inside the pack. I have taken the 48 pac of prednisone before and it was a graduated dosage by the cards they were on - the prescription I received today was in a bottle and did not have any instructions on how to take them like the ones in the pac. Just because symptoms went away, that doesn't mean that problem has resolved, yet, so you may end up right back where you started, if you don't finish the medication. I took double dose of prednisone 60mg in one day 9 hours apart for sinus infection. Should I be worried? ## I was given a 24 hr prednisone shot yesterday to help with my tight chest and coughing. Opites make my BP drop 80/50. I am on Fentanyl Patch 25mcg and feel very dizzy & sleepy. Think my BP is dropping dangerously, i have had lots of fluids & hung upside down off the bed. My dermatologist prescribed me 12 tabs of prednisone at 5mg for the first 5 days, then 8 tabs at 5mg for 5days, then 4 tabs at 5mg for 5 days, then 2 tabs at 5mg for 5 days, then 1 tab at 5mg for 5 days, then 0.5mg for 5 days, then stop. I was recently put on a high dosage (50mg) of Prednisone a day. I was to stay on this dosage for three days, then cut it in half for three days, and then repeat until I was, by the fifteenth day, completely off the medication. Unfortunately, when my doctor prescribed me Prednisone, she momentarily forgot about psych history. Hi I am freaking out. I am on 30 mg per day of prednisone. I take it in the morning around 7 am but accidentally took it again at 6 pm.
