A 90 year old woman was diagnosed with penumonia about 4 weeks ago which required hospitalization. She was placed on an antibiotics was not getting any better. Was rushed by ambulance to the hospital for choking and was placed on prednisone of 50 mg/day for a week with a plan to have the prednisone decreased by 10mg/day every week there after, until weaned. She starts today with 20 mg(s)/day for the next week, but has not regained any of her energy. I am praying for a miracle that she will regain her strength, but it does not look very promising. I was recently put on a high dosage (50mg) of Prednisone a day. I was to stay on this dosage for three days, then cut it in half for three days, and then repeat until I was, by the fifteenth day, completely off the medication. Unfortunately, when my doctor prescribed me Prednisone, she momentarily forgot about psych history. On the fifth day of me taking Prednisone, I had a psychosis episode, and came to the realisation that my chaotic moods, and the sudden extreme bouts of depression and lack of concentration, had been a side effect of the medication. Hi My daughter is 15 and was prescribed prednisone 20mg for inflammation brought on by an upper respiratory infection. She took the first dose about 1/2 hour after a meal and within 1/2 hour, she was experiencing severe abdominal cramping and nausea. She was able to vomit and it was clear with a few solids but mostly clear. I spoke with the doctor after the pharmacist recommended that it might be too much for her. Hey, I am having a horrible bout of tonsillitis with bad ear and throat pain. My doctor initially prescribed amoxicillin 3 days ago but pain still persisted, I went back today and got 50mg prednisone daily for 5 days plus a 10 day course of cephalexin. Is 50mg too much over a 5 day period. With previous bouts I was prescribed 10 mg twice daily for 2-4 days with no side effects. I took my first dose after filling the prescription at around 2 PM and am feeling mild discomfort in my muscles and can't seem to sleep. Is this dose to heavy? I was prescribed prednisone 50mg for 5 days on 01/24/2016. I took it for the two first days and the result was insomnia. Spent 48 hours straight awake. Couldn't sleep not even a couple of hours. Third day I didn't take it and called the doctor. They said I should take it the following morning and continue every morning until finish it. They didn't help me with the fact that I wouldn't be able to sleep again. Today is jan 27th I still have 3 more pills to take. 3 sources say prednisone and 1 says percocet. It has 54 on top and 343 below it. Which medication is it? I want to know exactly what it's for? ## The manufacturer, Roxane Laboratories, list it as containing 50mgs of Prednisone. I recently had a baby on the 21 Sept. I had a drug eruption afterwards. I had an epidural they gave my hydrocodone, ibuprofen for my pain because I got stitches after delivery...then on the 1st Oct I had a drug eruption that was lots of tiny bump-like pus pimples that broke out on my tummy, onto my breasts, then my wrists. So then they referred my to a dermatologist that day and I started one dose of aantibiotics but because I was itching and still fighting the breakout the next day they started me on prednisone. I am interested in hearing about any bad experiences with the prednisone. My husband has been taking it for 1 year. He started on 50mg and has been trying to taper all year but in the past his disease has flared up as the dose got lower and so it was increased again. This time he has been luck and got down to 10mg and then began losing his mind. In the last couple of weeks he has had panic attacks, mood swings, brain fades (moments of complete blankness where he is unable to talk/move or anything, inability to speak, dis inhibited behaviour and peculiar behaviour where he will simply repeats words over and over. I was started on a very high level course of Prednisone of 12 50mg pills twice a day for three days and then it would be gradually decreased throughout the week. Was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Im terrified that this is WAY too much.
