I am interested in hearing about any bad experiences with the prednisone. My husband has been taking it for 1 year. He started on 50mg and has been trying to taper all year but in the past his disease has flared up as the dose got lower and so it was increased again. This time he has been luck and got down to 10mg and then began losing his mind. In the last couple of weeks he has had panic attacks, mood swings, brain fades (moments of complete blankness where he is unable to talk/move or anything, inability to speak, dis inhibited behaviour and peculiar behaviour where he will simply repeats words over and over. His specialist says that it's the prednisone withdrawal and this will all improve as he tapers (he is down to 5mg now). He can't work or socialise which is so sad for ou...

My grandma has been taking prednisone 10mg a day for almost a month. She just all of a sudden stopped taking them because she felt better. Now she's having pain in her leg. Is it from stooping the prednisone ## Hello, Lisa! How is your grandmother doing? If she was taking it for 21 days, or more, there could be some problems caused by stopping it suddenly, rather than tapering it. However, only her doctor can check this out and give you a definitive answer. Typical side effects while taking a steroid, such as this, may include nausea, dizziness, headache, weight gain, acne and fluid retention, as listed by the FDA. Is she on any other medications?

I misread the instructions..they read take 3 tables by mouth daily 3 times a day. I took 3 tables in the morning and 3 tables in the afternoon. As soon as I realized my mistake and took no more tables. ## Hello, Candace! How are you? No, going by those instructions, you should be taking 9 tablets a day, 3 at a time, spread throughout the day, which is a normal dosage to treat certain conditions. It is always best to double check with your doctor or pharmacist, but that is the way they are stated. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, acne, fluid retention and weight gain. Is there anything else I can help with?

How do I taper off of it. It has caused me so many different side effects. I have been taking it for 8 months ## Hi Alice, Sorry to hear about your challenges with Prednisone. From what I've researched online, it's usually best to work closely with your doctor on developing an appropriate tapering schedule while monitoring your progress as often as he/she see's fit.. This is because the amount of time that it may take to wean off Prednisone not only depends on the type of disease being treated, the dose/duration of use, but also other individual medical considerations as well. And if you were to experience any complications during the tapering process, at least in this situation your doctor would understand what's going on and would try do whatever it takes to help you r...

Can you taper prednisolone.. 30mg/day for a week by 10mg/day each week after without side effects or is it best to go from 30 to 20 to 10 to 5mg? ## Hello, Jacko! How are you? How has your doctor directed you to taper it? Sometimes, if you've been taking it for less than 3 weeks, tapering isn't necessary. Usually, however, when it is tapered, it is done by 10mg increments, but not for a week each, in most cases, it's usually just a couple of days. But you need to follow your doctor's instructions, they are the final decider as to what is safest for you.
