Actually, under the new DEA directives, they are requested to limit patients to no more than the equivalent of 120mgs of Morphine a day, some states have lowered that even further to no more than the equivalent of 100mgs of Morphine a day. The only exceptions are supposed to be for those that have a potentially fatal illness, such as stage 4 cancer. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. I have chronic pain and have taken oxycodone 30 mgs for years now and I have been trying to kick the habit. What pain med would be closest to the relief of oxycodone ## Hello, Nancy! How are you? There is nothing available close to Oxycodone that does not also carry the risk of being habit forming. There are some nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories that are fairly potent and available via prescription, but they will not match the pain relieving power of Oxycodone. The FDA lists their typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and stomach irritation. Why do you think it has become a habit? Have you been taking more than you are prescribed?

i have been having trouble getting a good dr who will write oxycodone 30 mg. my back has been broken before and i was going all the way to Florida (a 16 hour drive) just to get my meds. So if anybody knows of any it would be helpful. i live in KY so as long as it is closer that's fine. Thank you. ## Well, the main problem is really when you go in and ask for a specific medication, in a specific dosage. Many doctors will look at this as drug seeking behavior. Whenever you see a new doctor, you need to make certain that you don't demand specific treatment, but you do want to take your medical records with you, or see that copies are sent to them. That way, they can see what has and hasn't worked for you in the past, plus they can see the results from any prior tests you've...

doc gave 10mg oxycodone ER but can only take 1 every 12 hours and its not working for pain!! wondering if u can take it sooner than the 12 hours? ## You may take one sooner, depending on your tolerance level... how long you've been taking the medication, etc. I wouldn't take it any sooner than 6hrs from your last pill. Time release pills often do not work as well as regular release pain medications I've found. Instead of taking another pill sooner, you might want to talk with your doctor and see if they will put you on a pain medication that isn't time release. ## You should not exceed your doctor's dosing instructions. If the given dosage is not helping you, you should inform them, as you may need a dosage adjustment, or to try a different medication. The FDA warns ...

my friend takes 15 mg oxycodone ## Did you have any specific questions about it? The FDA classifies this medication as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. It is an excellent analgesic that works well for most people and is often the drug of choice for someone with severe pain that may not respond to other treatment options. You may be more familiar with under the names Roxicodone, Percocet and Oxycontin, all of which contain it as an active ingredient.

I'm taking 1 tablet by mouth twice a day of Carvedilol 3.125 mg. and lisinopril 2.5 mg 1 tablet by mouth every day. Is possible take oxicodone 5 mg imm rel capsules for pain? Thanks ## Yes! I was on the Carvedilol and Lisinopril, when I ended up in the emergency room for an attack of gastritis and the doctor prescribed me a few days worth of 5mg Oxycodone to help the pain. The only thing you have to watch for is that narcotics, such as Oxycodone, can also lower your blood pressure, so taking it with the other medications can sometimes result in it dropping too low. Therefore, you should be monitored or monitor it yourself, while using these medications together. Are there any questions or comments?

I am prescribed 5 mug of oxycodone. On the bottle is shows round white 48/10 but the pill inside is round white, bigger and just has the # 223. It doesn't seem to work on my pain is this a different type of Oxy? ## Both should be 5 mg oxycodone. Both generic and both manufacture by a different company. ## @Corinne, I do think it's strange that a pharmacy would give you two different manufacturer's products in the same bottle as another. However, despite being the same medication, they are still composed of different binders and fillers which directly affect bioavailability and overall drug efficacy. So one may still work better or worse just because of "alleged" inactive ingredients, which in my opinion aren't necessarily inactive at all if they affect absorption...

I was taking two of the 5mg imm rel and they seemed to take care of the pain better than th 15's do I'm confused ## Hello, James! How are you? There actually aren't any in the higher doses that are immediate release, the only immediate release ones available are 5mg capsules. The one you've asked about is a 15mg regular release tablet that's manufactured by Vintage Pharmaceuticals. They generally take about 15 to 20 minutes to start working. I was told to take one table twice a day. when is the brst time of day to take these? ## Timing is going to be different for everyone based on their specific dosing schedule and number of pills taken; but it seems as though the best approach for 24hr around-the-clock pain relief would be to take one in the morning and one in the evening. However, the usual adult dosage for this medication is one tablet every 6 hours as needed for pain. I hope this helps!

I also read that it is sold in India black market!! ## Virtually every medication is available on the black market, in various countries, however, that means nothing in relation to its quality. And as to the negative feedback, not everyone's experience is going to mimic yours, they work fine for some people and not so well for others. That it how it always is with medications.
