4 Topics FoundFor over 10 years, I took 820 mg. morphine sulfate ER daily to manage chronic pain, trigeminal neuralgy and osteomyelitis in my jaw...(yes, I know that is spelled wrong, but don't want to take the time to look it up right now) Anyhow, about 1 1/2 years ago I started tapering myself off of it, one, because of the costs...astronomical, ridiculous, really..and for the last 6 months or so have been taking either 15/30 mg. regular release morphine every 4 hours. When I called my doctor to get an appt. for refills, the soonest appt. is 17 days away and I've only got about 1 week of medication left. I still have 200 mg. ER morphine left, but I don't want to accidentally overdose...do I still have a higher tolerance from being on it for so many years? ## Old mom The best and safest ...
I am prescribed Morphine Sulfate 30mg ER. My pharmacy gave me Morphine Sulfate 30mg SR. I only know because the medication is a different color and I had to research it when my pain became unbearable. I thought they gave me the wrong medication. Is there a difference between SR and ER? Or could the pain be due to the medication being from a different manufacturer than I usually receive? ## SR and ER are both just abbreviations that mean the same thing, they denote it as being a time released formulation of Morphine. Does it list the name of the manufacturer on them? Or can you post back with the markings?
I was taking 4 80 mg oxys daily my doc put me on 2 100 mg teva morphines will it help the same and will i go through withdraw thank you ## The equivalent dose would actually be 120mgs of Morphine to equal each 80mg Oxycodone that you were taking, so you've actually been put on a lower dosage. I take 2 60 mg morphine sulfate er 3 times a day. What would be the equivalent for IV usage. I will have a 3 port chest cath shortly and was wondering if IV pain medication would control pain better and if so at what dosage to achieve the same effect as what I am taking or even slightly stronger. ## Each 60mg oral dosage is equivalent to about 24mgs via IV, but you will not get the same time release as you do from the oral, so your doctor may need to adjust your dosage, and administration of it, accordingly.
