These dont seem to work can you take every 8hrs instead of 12hrs ## Hi Mike, It sounds to me like the dosage may not be strong enough for you; but to answer your question, the usual adult dose for pain is 5 to 30 mg every 3 to 4 hours as needed (when taking it Orally, Sublingual, or Buccal). The dosing indications for MS Contin (Morphine Oral) also state that "extended-release" tablet dosages range from 10 mg to 600 mg daily, given in equally divided doses every 8 to 12 hours or given as one dose every 24 hours. So depending on whether or not your tablets are extended-release, you should have some flexibility with the hours. I hope this helps! ## They are extend release ## If anyone is looking for a "buzz" with MS Contin, you are very unlikely to get it. These pills are ...

My Doc prescribed me 15 mg of Morphine. Ive been on vicodin 7.5 mg for three years. How much of a difference is morphine? I took half of the blue pill just now. ## The Morphine is stronger than the Hydrocodone in the Vicodin, it is also a straight narcotic, without the Acetaminophen that is in the Vicodin. It sounds like your doctor is trying to help you get better control of your pain. The main issue here is, what type of Morphine pills are they? If they are the time released version, generics for MS Contin, then cutting the pill in half could be very dangerous and should not be done. It can cause you to have too much of the medication released at once. The side effects are similar and may include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and dry mouth. I just went to a new pain dr. For 8 years I was on OxyContin 30mg. My insurance wouldn't pay so I was switched to 30 mg ms continue er. This worked fine. All with 5/325 Hydrocodone up to 4 daily for breakthrough. Within the last four months the old Doctor switched to 30mg IRR without telling me why the change. I think just mixed up. Actually it worked basically the same with the breakthrough meds. Now new doc changed to MS Contin er generic with same amount of breakthrough melds. I haven't started yet but am worried it won't work as well. Help ## Since it is a lower dose, it may not manage your pain as well and you may also experience some withdrawal symptoms. As listed by the FDA, withdrawal symptoms may possibly include nausea, dizziness, fever, chills and diarrhea. Is the...

How many oxycodone 5-325 equals 1 morphine 15 mg? ## Hello, DJ! How are you? Oxycodone is one and a half times stronger than Morphine, so you'd need 10mgs of it to equal each 15mgs of Morphine. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. However, that's not entirely accurate in this case, since the Acetaminophen augments the action of the Oxycodone. It may also differ further, if the Morphine in question is a time released formulation. Is it a generic for MS Contin, or a regular release? ## Vernon, Thank you for your reply. She is back on her morphine now so all is good! Thanks again!

I cant see that morphine 15 mg does anything for me. I was taking 40 mg oxcontin twice a day and something else for breakthrough pain. Since going on medicare supplement insurance I can't get the oxycontin through the company. I was taking dilaudid for the breakthrough pain but living, in Florida, I can't find it at all here. Does Oxcodone do as good as the morphine? I don't know that I can even get that here though. They have cracked down so much on what is dispensed in Florida that any meds is hard to get. Thanks for answering. ## Hello, Jeanne! How are you? I think the problem may be with the dosage of the MS Contin that you're on. Oxycodone is stronger, so for each 40mgs of it that you were taking, you'd need 60mgs of the MS Contin to be equivalent in analgesic e...

I have several 15 mg tablets of MS Contin. They are 4+ years old. What is the shelf life of this medication? ## From what others have stated, Morphine has an expected shelf life of 2 years. However, there's actually a lot of conflicting information out there around the topic of expired medication. According to a Harvard Medical School family health article, except in rare cases (i.e. tetracycline), there is little chance of danger due to taking medications even up to 15 years beyond their expiration date. This conclusion was based upon a study conducted at the request of the US military due to stockpiles of expensive drugs they could otherwise need to replace every few years. The conclusion was that 90% of those drugs remained effective 10 - 15 years after the expiration date. But t...

My Dr has given me the option to switch from Opana ER 45mg to msCottin ER! How many MG of MSCottin ER will it take to equale the Opana ER 45mg?? ## Hello, Sharon! How are you? Opana is actually much stronger than Morphine, so you'd need 135mgs of the MS Contin to equal each 45mgs of the Opana. That's quite a lot to take. Is the Opana no longer working for you? This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Oxycontin or Fentanyl might be better options. ## Thank you for the information. It's helped a lot! I am switching medications because of several different stomach problems I have. About 10 years ago I had gastric bypass surgery that went horribly wrong...

I wonder what the difference is between 15MG MS Contin vs 15 Mg Oxycodone. Is there a substitute for MS Morphine..I take 2 30mg MS Contin twice a day and also with that I take 15MG MS Contin twice per day..which of course is 45mgs at a time..with 3 15mg Oxcodone for breakthru pain. I was taking 20 mg Oxycontin 3 times a day etc. But my insurance wasn't paying for the oxy. So what I take now is paid for. Do any of you have any suggestions of what would work better for the pain..since I changed to morphine it doesn't seem to do the trick..this is long..but any answers would be very appriciated..Thanks.. ## Oxycodone is actually one and a half times stronger than Morphine. So, for instance if you were taking 20mgs of Oxycodone, at a time, to relieve your pain, then the equivalent d...

I got switched from the 30 mg Morphine ER to MS Contin 30 mg. Is there any difference in these two pills? And they switched my 15 mg Morphine ER to 15mg immediate release. Is there any difference between these two pills? If they are my insurance will pay for it. Please let me know. ## Hi Jeffrey - Technically speaking those two pills should contain the same dosage of Morphine (the active ingredient). While I don't have a picture to show you, the 30mg MS Contin Extended release should be round a purple with either the marking "M 30" or "PF M30" depending on which company labeled the prescription. As far as switching from 15 mg ER to immediate release, yes, there is a difference in that the immediate release should take effect more quickly but not last as long. Are you...

I have been on two 60mg Ms contin, with 15 mg morphine ir 4x a day. It's not working as well since my surgery. Now I have changed to two 60mg Ms contin with 10 mg oxycodone 3x a day. Will this combination work better and last longer? ## Have you tried taking the new combination, yet? The only way to discover if it will work better for you is by actually trying it. The FDA warns that these medications carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation.

Ive taken small doses of opiods before, and one 15mg abg, but not on a regular basis. I was just wondering how long tye effects will last, amd when it is safe to drink. And what are warning signs I should look out for? I think im going to be ok though. ## IThe drug is morphine sulfate extended-release, generic for MS Contin 15 mg tablets. It is odd you would be prescribed an extended-release medication if you are only taking it occasionally. MS Contin (and its generics) are used for people requiring continuous pain relief and is taken every 12 hrs. MS Contin Extended Release lasts 12 hrs so that xx mg does of morphine is being slowly released rather than the full dose working immediately (but lasting only 4-6 hrs). MS Contin is NOT intended to be taken as needed so it may be a large enou...

Hello~ I’ve been taking 5/325% for severe back pain due to an injury since 2012. I had surgery in 2014. I’m still experiencing severe pain and have been taking the Percocet since. Recently my doctor has prescribed MS Contin 15 mg. Although it did take the pain down a few notches, I became very dizzy and it felt like the world is spinning around me. I actually stumbled a few times which I felt was putting me at more risk. Then came the nausea and the feeling sick part. My question is, what are peoples experience as far as does the dizziness and nausea feeling go away after you’ve been taking it for a few days or longer? I realize that everybody and every body is different, but I would love to hear others’ experiences to help me decide whether I will continue takin...

I have taken ns contin 60mg 4x a day for abot 10 years and roxicodone 15mg 4 x day for break through pain but it has got to where its not working now so what othwr medication do i have as another option ## Hello, Linda! How are you? Well, there are higher doses of both of these medications available. Additionally, there is a time released formulation of Oxycodone available, it's called Oxycontin and is stronger than the Morphine in the MS contin. Learn more Oxycontin details here. There is also a patch that contains Fentanyl, it is stronger than both the Morphine and the Oxycodone. Learn more Fentanyl details here. These are narcotic analgesics, so they have the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipatio...

I was given 15 Mg MS CONTIN. About 4 hrs after taking it I feel extremely agitated. grrrrrr!!! I was prescribed this 2 days ago. I take it for hand and arm pain 1 pill every 12 hrs. Little bit of pain still not so bad but this irritated aggravated feeling is making me want to climb the walls. Does it ever go away? Please help in away way to even possibly give me some ideas that alleviated this agitation or how to deal. Thank you. ## Interestingly enough, "agitation" is listed as a general side effect of MS Contin (controlled-release morphine). Ref: nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a682133.html#side-effects Usually in cases like this, the side effects wont necessarily go away until you stop taking what's causing them in the first place.
