21 Topics FoundI would like to know why I have this drug metoprolol succinate ER 25 if it was recalled. Is it now considerred safe? Has the lawsuit been heard yet? I want off of this stuff and am so ticked that my doctor not only put me on it but never explained any symtoms, or how it should be taken. Where does responsibility begin with a Doctor today? ## A doctor is not a pharmacist and does not have the same schooling. Most doctors prescribe medications according to safety and efficacy, they usually know very little about the side effects or any other information on it. That said, the recall ONLY affected tablets manufactured by one company, not ALL! Since it is a generic medication, it is made by several different companies. As to how to take it, you should follow the instructions provided by your...

I have been taking Atenolol 50mg for about 4 years to treat my hypertension; it was working wonderfully, but I suddenly had to switch to Metoprolol Succ. ER 3 months ago because of a manufacturer shortage of Atenolol. I took it just as I did the Atenolol: which was whenever I woke up/got my day started, I paid no mind to missing a dose here and there (such as when I felt like sleeping all day) or whether or not I was taking it with a meal---so basically totally wrong. I realize now I was not taking the Atenolol exactly as indicated, but it never posed a significant problem. However, my BP levels are basically where they were before I ever started Atenolol now that I have switched to Metoprolol ER (135/85-150/90 something). The day I went to my doctor for my 3 month checkup (which was 2 ...

The FDA warns that this medication may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and orthostatic hypotension. Are you on any other medications? Why do you want to raise your dosage?

Does cutting metoprolol er 100 in half at the score have any effect on the extended release? ## To my understanding, cutting an extended release pill in half does have an effect on its time-release properties. I honestly don't know if this only pertains to "capsules" rather than "tablets", since they are different forms in and of themselves. Often times the score line does indicate that the pill can be divided in half, but unless your doctor gives you the ok, I would suggest playing it safe in either case. You may even want to talk to your doctor about lowering your dosage to 50mg Metoprolol succinate extended-release tablets. This way you can always take another dose without worrying about messing up the time-release properties. I hope this helps! Does anyone else k...

I am not a doctor, but if were me, I'd take the one recommended by the cardiologist, simply because they have a lot more training and experience in such matters. I can't tell you what to do, but if you aren't sure, you should consult your cardiologist. The FDA lists their typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. why was Metoprolol recalled and what date? ## "Sandoz is voluntarily extending the September 17, 2008, recall of Metoprolol Succinate Extended Release Tablets 25mg and 50mg, to include all strengths of distributed lots with expiration dates through August 2010. This voluntary action by Sandoz is due to deficiencies in documentation practices and in-process controls for this product. This voluntary recall is being conducted down to the retail level with the knowledge of the FDA. The affected lots were shipped approximately between November 2006 and October 2008. (Sandoz Press Release 11/3/08)" [1] Hope this information helps. Do you have any other questions or information to add? Please post back if you do... is there any difference between Metoprolol Tarta 50mg and Metoprolol Succ ER 50 mg? ## The succinate and tartrate just refer to the specific chemical salt that the manufactured used in their process to create the drug, however, if they are both ER, then they are the same and will work in the same manner. The ER stands for extended release, so is not a time released formulation, then there could be a difference, because a regular release formulation won't allow for the same blood pressure or cardiac control, throughout the day. Are there any other comments or questions?
Are Metoprolol TAB 50 mg. ER (white) the same? as Metoprolol-TART 50 mg. TAB leg (pink)? What is the difference? ## I got a RX filled Small round pill with 831 and small arrow like symbol ## I have Metoprolol succinate extended-release (50 mg) white tablets but was prescribed Losartan 50mg Pot a green tablet. Are these the same. I just noticed this and I am urinating every hour day and night. I am 64 and take lipitor 10mg and Glimepiride 4mg each at one tab per day. ## In regards to the original post no, from what was listed those are not the same. The ER stands for extended release, which means the medication will be slowly released into the body over time, rather than all at once. The other tablet listed doesn't have anything showing that it's in such a formulation, which mean...
I currently take this medication and was told today that there might have been a recall on it. Anyone know any info on this? ## I have seen this information too, but I am not sure which manufacturers it applies to. Here is the quote from the other dicussion thread about this: "Sandoz is voluntarily extending the September 17, 2008, recall of Metoprolol Succinate Extended Release Tablets 25mg and 50mg, to include all strengths of distributed lots with expiration dates through August 2010. Just got a refill of metoprolol er succinate 50mg which used to have Watson listed as the manufacturer but now says Actavis. The pills look exactly the same and the imprint is the same with an 831 number but they stink like paint. Never had this before. The pharmacist checked the original container and that stinks too. Anyone else notice this? ## Hello, Mary! How are you? Most pills do have an odor, but many manufacturers use a coating on them to prevent patients from smelling it. Thus, I have to assume that when Actavis bought out many of Watson's products, they stopped coating them. It is, however, nothing to worry about, even though I know it may be annoying. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased uri...
i have been taking metoprolol 50mg and just refilled the new pills are larger and have 369 stamped on one side and scored on the other. ## Is that the only marking? ## I, too, got a refill of Metoprolol succ ER 50 MG and noticed the change in pill size, larger, 369 printed on front and scored on back; questioned the pharmacist and change of manufacturer was the response. ## I think there could be more than 50mg in that large of a pill. Do any of you know? ## I'll bet you have Caremark. Metoprolo ER, they write, is the trade name for the generic metoprolol succinate made by the Ethex Co. I checked their web site and the image is what you describe. ## Okay, has anyone taken the large Metoprolol pills without issue? I just picked up my refill and they too have the 369 on them? Pharmaci...
The pill I found was a thicker (3/16"), white, round (6/16") diameter pill with 93 marked on one side and 851 marked on the other side. I take Lisinopril, Furosemide and Carvedelol, and this pill does not match any of these 3 pills. What is it? Thank you. ## It's an older tablet, because TEVA no longer uses the number 93 on these, they changed it to actually read TEVA, several months ago. It contains 50mgs of Metoprolol, an beta blocker that is used to treat high blood pressure and cardiac conditions, it is in the same class as your Carvedilol, but for many people it causes severe side effects. Are there any other questions or comments? ## metoprolol er succinate - beta blocker
