I am seeking information on existing or establishing organizations / associations for chronic patients to fight for our rights to live without being in unbearable pain day in and day out. The rapidly increasing limitations and sanctions being made by State and Federal politicians that have no idea what it is like to live with severe chronic pain every waking moment are threatening our rights to pursue life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Politicians and FDA concern is solely for those who misused these medications, not for the 100 million (voting) Americans that need pain medications to minimize the pain that comes with their afflictions. need to find doc who can prescribe methadone for chronic pain. Primary care put me on methadone and oxy for breakthrough pain. now cannot prescribe any more. What is the recommended dose for chronic pain? After 10+'years new Dr. stopped methadone and break thru Meds. for no reason, nor would give me one. Thankfully I try to take as little as needed.So I still didn't have a great time withdrawing, not fun at all. At 57 with a rare autoimmune disease that causes blood clots+ had first stroke at 36. I have severe case of Fibromyalgia with many flare ups where the pain becomes s bad I end up in the ER on dilaudid via IV. I became pregnant 6yrs ago and had been taking percocet for 2 years and was when I became pregnant so my OB/GYN advised on start on the methadone maintenance program. By the end of my term the clinic had me up to 175mg's. Recently I detoxed down 2 mg’s a week and now I am at 46mg's. It hurts something terrible. My PCP said after i’m thru detoxing that he will put me on a Vicodin patch s not to have to take pills again. From 2009 thru 2012 I was prescribed methadone and roxicodone for chronic back pain. Which was very effective. The clinic closed down and I've found it difficult to find a doctor who will prescribe methadone. My current doc gives me five 30mg roxicodone a day but I don't get the pain relief I had when taking methadone and the occasional roxicodone for breakthrough pain. Could someone please advise me , as I have a BIG PROBLEM. I'm suffering from Central Pain SYNDROME following a severe STROKE in 2006 . I was tried on several drugs, but methadone @ 150mg daily is what I've been on for years, which totally destroyed my teeth . In November of 2015, I was told by Pain Management, that because of new federal guidelines that my MME-morphine equivalent MUST BE MUCH LOWER . They started reducing my daily level at that time .Now, 6 months later, I'm now at 20 mg, tomorrow, I go on 15 mg daily, after being on 20 for the last week. I have been prescribed methadone since 2009 for nerve and chronic pain. I have had 7 surgeries need 2 more major surgeries, have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, degenerative disease, cervical spondylosis, and severe osteoarthritis of the joints. My doctor referred me to pain management due to personal opinion and unsure how to treat me. Have had inj's., therapy, recently my nerve burnt and received different pain medications - which none have worked or I had reactions to them. The only thing that has worked is Lyrica and Methadone. Yes, any doctor that has a license to prescribe medications can prescribe it for pain, the only restriction is when it's being prescribed for drug addiction. However, many will not do so, because it carries a very high risk of being habit forming, as warned by the FDA and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. I have been seeing a doc for 4 yrs for pain management who put me on 100 mg. Methadone. He left his practice and his replacement won't prescribe methadone. I have called multiple pain management docs who will not take me at this mg level. I have tried everything else before and need a LAS VEGAS area doc who will see me soon. ## In a way, you may be creating your own problem here. If you are calling other doctors and asking if they will prescribe Methadone at your current dosage level, then just about all of them are going to say no. The reason for this is due to the fact that doing so is considered drug seeking behavior and doctors are warned to avoid taking on such patients. I am a chronic pain suffer. Had spinal fusion in 12/72 L4 thru S1 are or were fused solid. Old style fusion massive bone build up huge triangle just above my tail bone. As fine did great no Dr no meds no nothing until I fell on my button 2/88. All Hell has broke loose. My pain has gone crazy. Gets worse and worse and finding help is getting next to impossible. The original fusion was the results of the Vietnam war injury. I finally broke down and went to the local VA hospital. I need a Doctor in Oklahoma City that will prescribe Methadone. I've had chronic pain for most of my life. I took lortabs or similar meds for yrs. I have been taking 120 mg of methadone for approximately 5 years. My husbands job transferred us from Florida to Louisiana where I found a pretty good pain doc. He is now running scared and wants to take me off of methadone. Methadone has given me a good quality of life; I am able to work and be a productive member of society.
