I was on Metformin for 25 years. Dr told me to stop using it switch to Gilpizide because I am 80 years old. Apparently it could take you out in that age group. Cold turkey, I had severe chills for a couple of days accompanied by muscle and joint pains and a headache. Day 10 was somewhat improved as far as chills go. I am hanging in there with the glipizide Dose that was doubled. But the glucose level is still high. DDose that was doubled edzide ## Experiencing withdrawal effects is normal when you stop a medication cold turkey, after being on it for so many years, according to the NIH. It is likely also coupled with side effects from starting the new one, so a kind of double whammy. Do metformin withdrawal side effects go away ## Hello, Fluffy! How are you doing? Well, that depends on whether or not they are actually withdrawal effects, or if they are the result of rebound effects and elevated sugar levels. Did you stop taking it cold turkey? I was recently switched from Glyburid-Metformin to Metformin HCL 500 MG - I have been experiencing frequent migrane headaches (daily) and have put on over 5 lbs in 2 weeks. Also my blood sugar numbers are higher especially in the morning. Only benefit is that there have been no more low readings. ## Have you consulted your doctor? Suddenly stopping any medication that you've been taking for a long period of time may result in some withdrawal and rebound effects, which may explain your symptoms, but you should talk to your doctor about it, to be certain. Has there been any improvement, yet? ## I switched back two days ago. Headaches still happening but not nearly as severe. Low sugar reading happened once.

i have been prescribed metadoze ipr 500( metformin) and montair lc ( montelukast sodium ) tablets after i was diagnosed with high sugar. if i discontinue the medication, i get an itching sensation. is the itching sensation a side effect of the medicines or is it due to sugar levels? ## It's rather difficult to say, it could be due to a sudden withdrawal of them, or nerve damage from the diabetes. Learn more Metadoze details here. Learn more diabetes details here. I'd suggest consulting your doctor. As to the Montelukast, that's not used to treat diabetes. Are you sure that's why your doctor prescribed it? Learn more Montelukast details here.
