My 17 year old daughter was prescribed a 6 day Medrol pack and 6 day Z-pack for a sinus infection. On day 3 she got hit with significant depression that has gotten worse each day even though the dose is decreasing. Talked to the doctor today and he told her to stop taking it (she will only miss the very last day of 4 mg). Wondering how long it might take for her emotions to stabilize. ## Hello, Donna! How is she doing? It may take a week, or so, before the side effects fully go away. Others, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include acne, headache and insomnia. Recently, I had a scheduled appointment with my primary physician. I had a chest cold, which is rare for me. The doctor gave me an Albuterol nebulizer treatment, a Medrol 6-day pack, and an inhaler as treatment for the chest cold, which I didn't need. I consider this too many medications for just a chest cold, and that wasn't the reason I was seeing her. But I took the first two, but did not use the inhaler. During the next few weeks, I had two episodes where my throat seized up, once when a bit of water went down the wrong way, and then when I swallowed salad dressing with a hot pepper flake in it. My throat went into strong spasms with sharp, quick intakes of air - and I could not control it. It stopped on its own, eventually, about the time I decided I would dial 911 and gasp...

I was prescribed methylprednisolone (medrol) after having surgery to repair a herniated disc in my back. I took the 6 day dose pack and had to stop 4 days in for mood swings, aggressiveness, insomnia, trouble breathing, disorganized and repetitive thoughts, paranoia, just too many to list. I had to sit in a dark room for hours on end just to gather my thoughts at times and avoided people entirely. The worst of it lasted for about 7 days, it's now been over 2 weeks since I stopped taking it. I thought I was out of the woods until the mood swings started again 2 days ago out of nowhere. Thankfully I have 1 month left to recover from back surgery before returning to work. I hope the symptoms go away by then. My advice, ask your doctor if there is an alternative medication you can take ...

I was prescribed Medrol by a pulmonologist today. Instead of a dose pack I was prescribed 20 loose 4 mg tablets. The instructions say to take 4 tablets daily for 5 days. Can this be right?? In the past I've always been prescribed dose packs that decrease the dosage daily? Please advise. ## Hello, Kenzen! How are you? While dose packs are sometimes still prescribed, it's been found that short-term use of some steroids, doesn't require tapering. It depends on which one it is, the dosage and how long someone will be taking it. If you are concerned, please double check with your doctor or pharmacist, before taking them. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, nervousness, acne and insomnia. Is there anything el...

I am on a short course of medrol for a back issue, but I also suffer from chronic migraines. I know it is often also used to break a cycle of chronic migraines. On day 4 of medrol pack, and I've had severe migraine. Can this sometimes be a side effect. Instead of helping, causing migraine? ## I am a migraine sufferer for 30 years. Working on MOH, and relieving chronic migraines. Also, trying to find a Headache specialist is near impossible short of going to a Headache clinic like Mayo. ## Yes, this medication can cause headaches/migraines as a side effect, according to FDA reports. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, nervousness, and acne. Betsy, have you tried consulting a neurologist? They are usually the ones that treat such issues.
