I have been taking Lyrica about six months. I have been taking other meds for pain. I have stopped taking the pain RX Tramadol. I still have memory problems, but I started this week taking just one Lyrica ( I was taking two a day 75 mg). ## THE FDA WANTS TO HEAR ABOUT THE BAD EXPERIENCES WITH LYRICA. FDA.gov/Safety/MedWatch ## Lyrica contains the active ingredient Pregabalin, which is an anticonvulsant and the FDA does warn that some medications in this class are well known to cause memory issues. Other side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, mood swings, and weight changes. As to the comment about the FDA, they want to hear about bad experiences with all medications, not just this one, so please don't be afraid to submit reports. Is there anything else I ca...

Please help! I have serious memory problems ## Hi, Donna! Sorry about the problems that you're having. Yes, having a problem with your memory is actually a common side effect of Lyrica. Learn more Lyrica details here. Have you consulted your doctor? Lyrica just might not be the right medication for you to take and you may need to try something else. ## Hello, hope your Lyrica problem has been resolved. I also had a bad reaction to Lyrica. I always stop a medication immediately if I have a bad reaction to it. And you can always trump your doctor at any time and not take the medication. By law, they can not make you take it. If they push you into it, see another doctor. Even if its a prominent doctor.

Hi all. I've been taking 300mg of lyrica for 7 mo. which has been a miracle for my spine nerve damage however I have become completely stupid (no memory) and have developed neurovascular eye disease. Anyone else have this? Sorry for the post not being very clear lol as I said I'm brain dead! I almost forgot to mention the rash. I've developed a rash on my right calf only. I've been to a lot of drs an all my blood work has been normal. I KNOW it's the Lyrica. I can't stop though. When I stopped taking it I was literally bedridden. The Lyrica helps so much with the pain that I've decided the side effects are worth it, at least I can function, even if I do go around in circles most of the time. Other drug companies are coming out with similar drugs soon hopefull...

I have been on Lyrica for about 8 months now and I am having fantastic results. My dr is trying to increase my dosage and I have been doing it in 50 mg increments. I am up 100 more now in a month, for a total dosage of 400mg. I find that I have very bad recall and loss of my vocabulary during conversation. It eventually goes away, but I was wondering if anyone else has this? If it keeps up, I just may have to drop back down 50mg until I get used to it? That seemed to work that last time I had to raise it.BTW, I have nerve pain in my ribcage. (not caused by shingles) ## It is a possible reaction to this med, it is listed as a side effect that you should see your doctor about if you experience it. You can see it in the monograph listing here: Pregabalin Details Have you consulted your doc...

It is like poison, or electroconvulsive therapy with the mental confusion and short term memory loss. 150 mg. q.d. didn't touch my PN. AND, DIZZEEE; OMG, help! ## These are rare, but possible, side effects of Lyrica, which contains the active ingredient Pregabalin. Have you contacted your doctor about them, yet? As to the pain, this is not an analgesic and it does not work like one. It only helps with certain types of nerve pain and it will take awhile to work, usually several weeks.

Lyrica Has Seriously Impaired My Mind And Damaged My Parotid Gland. After only 2 and 1/2 weeks on it (for neurogenic pain and spasms from spine injuries lumbar spine and cervical spine): First day after taking it, "buzzing electrical nerve symptoms" some better, but pain was still very much there. Dizzy, stumbling... Dizziness decreased after a few days (never stopped, always present when first arising from sleep). During those 2 and 1/2 weeks that I took Lyrica, I have gained 10 lbs (have not lost it) had extreme dry mouth (still dryer than pre-Lyrica), got tangled up, as in "lost" in my clothes when dressing, tangled in my seat belt when getting in and out of car and tangled in my purse straps ... all the time... Was (still am) constantly reversing words (I say "up...

I take lyrics three times per day,it helps me with neurotipatic pain,I am on this pill for 5 years, when it comes to pain I am relieved, but ,BUT,but my days disappear like magic,my head floats with memory lapses and overall,my waist is a few inches bigger, what I use to do in a day is now a matter of a week or so,the pain is controlled, not completely but enough for me to spend the day,but now i have to read the same book like ten times to file it in my memory. The control of neuropatic pain is the key thing here,I can't find anything else to control it,my concern is my memory lapses and the floating,so you be the judge,I can not endure the pain otherwise, I try one day and I was miserable it seems like I am stuck with it, ## The weight gain, memory loss and other mental effects are all...

Lyrica does work for myself. But I started having side effects. Double vision, being tired all the time, confusion, didn't even remember my age and that might be a good thing. But the drug is awesome for taking the nerve pain away. Just pay attention to side effects. ## Mu husband was on Lyrica for 30 days until he started experiencing severe side effects, i.e. dizziness, chest pain, weight gain, double vision, confusion, memory problems, tiredness. He was admitted into the hospital with the chest pain, in fear he was experiencing a heart attack. He has been off Lyrica for 3 weeks now and is still experiencing nausea and dizziness. How long did your symptoms last after discontinuing the med? He is getting very discouraged. Resa ## I had an orthopedic surgery on my ankle 8 months ago...

I have been reading all the responses above and want to tell you there are more to come. Lyrica is a "fat" conserving drug. My daughter gained more than 100 lbs. on it. Now, pain, weight, depression, "foggy" headedness, etc. continued. Oh, yes the terrible rash all over her arms, so bad she refuses to wear a short sleeve top. She always has a jacket on. Hair loss and at 30, the gray hair is now coming. Yes, Lyrica is the cause. She is now down to 25mg, but the reduction has to be very slow. She is one of about 8% that just can't quit it right off. GET OFF OF IT IF YOU CAN. It is the worst thing that has happened to her. She can't work and had to stop going to school because of the memory loss. We need to find a lawyer to help. ## Thanks for your informative post....

I have had a couple of blackouts when the dosage was too high. It sure is scary ## i had the same thing when i had the doctor advise me to go up to 150 mg, three times a day i had weird blackout type memory problems so i had cut back, and only took the 150 mg two times which the problems went away after the higher dose was out of my system, ## i have ended up in my recliner by the wood stove twice, middle of the night. i woke up and didn't remember going out there. if i lower the dose the pain is unbearable. this drug is the worst i have ever experienced, horrible drug, don't start! ## My husband had been taking 600 mg of Lyrica and cut back a little because he was not sure it was helping. He would get into what I called zones. LIke he didn't know what was going on and talki...

I have tried to come off of it before but after day 5 i felt like i was in hell I could not stand anything touching me not even clothes i felt like I was on fire so i caved in and starting taking it again I could not stand the pain any longer. I have memory loss, live in a fog, gained alot of weight, sleep walk. I can't think clear there are times I have speech issues like I can't say what I'm trying to and have to stop slow down and try again. Due to new health issues I have chose to come off lyrica because I can't tell where I am hurting and by all rights should be able to because of physical symptoms. My Dr. has told ...

Hi can anybody tell me if they have suffered memory problems after coming off Lyrica? 4 months clear of it now but still can be in middle of conversation and forget what I was talking about. Can this still be related to coming off the drug after this length of time? ## @woffymum you are definitely NOT alone. Check out this related discussion thread which is getting a lot of activity: Does Anyone Taking Lyrica Have Memory Loss ?

Does anyone know if you gain more weight as you increase the milligrams of Lyrica. I've gone from 150mg a day to 600 & still may have to increase, I know weight gain is a side effect but does it ever level out or as I increase my milligram will I continue to gain? I've already gained 50lbs! ## Yes it can! I tried it & I believe I was allergic to it. I started swelling up immediately & even though I only took for a brief time, the extra weight I gained was super hard to get off. I've heard it helps some tho! Hope this was a little helpful =) ## Hello, RhondaKay! How are you? Several of the side effects from anticonvulsants are known to continue or worsen with time and weight gain is one of them. Mood swings and memory problems can also worsen. However, it really d...

I have been taking Lyrica 150 mg twice a day with 100mg sustained release tramadok (ultram) I have severe post hepetic neuralgia in my left thigh following an attack of shingles. This combination of meds has reduced pain by 59% allowing me to function, Then I noticed I was slowly and stadily gaining weight - about 30 lb. The interesting thing is it is all (nearly) belly weight - my waist has now completely dissapeared. The first side effect (i didn;t really notice the weight gain at first) was I was unsteady and my balance degenerated quite a bit. The I noticed typing I would mix up similar words like their and there and sea and see. The wiuld always be the wrong way round. At first the memory loss seemed an extention of aging but in the last minth it has got alarming. Today I was follo...

Am I losing it? ## In responce to your concern, I have read every concern and yes I cant speak either, I was a professional for 30 years and now I cant even put a simple sentence together without my words comming out delayed , all mixed up in my head they are right but they never come out clear. I am so embarrsed. ## Those can be normal side effects of Lyrica, it is an anticonvulsant that has also been found to help with some types...

i need to know if this drug is a narocotic drug cause i don;t want to take drugs that is ## I don't know I just like being involved in stuff I don't know anything about!!! ## Do you know that lyrica works by destroying the nerves and/or neurons. I am an ex-nurse and ex-respiratory therapist. Do you know what your brain is made of? Nerves and neurons. Lyrica destroyed my short memory and caused me to lose my job of 29 years at a hospital. It has been 8 years since I last took it and I still have memory loss. This is a very dangerous drug. You who are on it be careful. There is more to this drug than weight gain. ## Lyrica is NOT a narcotic. But, they do advise people who have had a drug or alcohol problem 2 b careful taking it. ## Lyrica contains the active ingredient Pregabalin,...

I have been taking Lyrica for several months now and have many side effects from this drug. I have gained 10-15lbs, have severe memory loss..simple word finding is difficult.. I have had major hair loss (clumps of hair falling out when wash my hair) and worst of all can not have orgasm because of this drug!!! I am titrating down now becuase side effects are not worth the minimal pain relief I am getting from this drug for fibromyalgia! ## Hello, Kelly! How are you? I am very sorry about the problems that you're having. Similar things have happened to others that have taken Lyrica. However, I do want to caution you to be very careful, when tapering off of it, because stopping abruptly could create the risk of seizures. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I am a male who has ha...

My spell check is on the blink so please excuse any errors! I had surgery In Sept of 2005 on my lower leg, resulting in nerve trauma and extreme stabbing hot and cold pain, in that area. It was almost impossible to walk. I had no relief from standard painkillers such as Vicoden and Ibuprofen. Lyrica was prescribed at 25 mg and provided incredible relief within 48 hours. It was increased slowly to 150 mg over one month. I am now- in Jan of 2007, slowly decreasing the medicine over a one month period, with good success so far. I would like some input or info on the side efects or any withdrawl issues. Also, how long does it take to get out of the system? My experience in total has been very favorable. I did have definite challenges with memory, and loosing my place in discussions with peo...

I took Lyrica for several years but quit taking it and switched to gabapentin which I took for several years. I took 300 mg x 3 daily and I have no short term memory and I can't think of the words I mean to say. I also took morphine and hydrocodone so I don't know which drug caused the memory loss. I now am off the opiates but take 100 mg gabapentin x2 daily for anxiety ## Both Lyrica and gabapentin are known for memory loss. Been on pain meds for years, but never had memory issues with them. Type in both Lyrica and gabapentin. You'll find you are far from alone. God bless. ## That is correct, Gabapentin is known to cause memory loss as a long-term side effect, according to pre-approval studies, and real world use reports. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, we...
