I may e having a miscarriage due to a utility.....I have been. I am finishing eight days of nitrofuran 100 mgm twice daily for a UTI. Experiencing some bladder irritation and frequency. Could this be from the drug retained in the urine? Thanks! ## Hello, Tom! How are you? No, it shouldn't cause those types of symptoms, but it may not have been the proper medication to eradicate the infection you had. Just because it treats most such infections doesn't mean it will always treat all of them. The general rule with antibiotics is that if the are working, you shouldn't see any worsening after taking it for a full 24 hours and then you should start to see improvement within 3 days. Have you consulted your doctor, yet? You may need to try a different antibiotic.

I took macrobid for a UTI. On the last day I thought I had the flu. Chills, fever, exhaustion, a little nausea and a little pain. The second day of the flu I went to the doctor, and noticed I had a rash developing on my legs. We thought the rash was unrelated to the flu. Two days later the rash is very severe, with purplish spots and climbing up my body. The doctor said he did not advise any steroids but now I'm a little worried. They made an appointment for me for with a dermatologist four days from now but I'm afraid I'll be permanently disfigured by then. Also my ears are ringing. Should I go to an urgent care center? My doctor found blood in my urine 3 weeks ago. She gave me antibotics and they did not work, so I then got a new perscription of antibotics and they did not work. She did a culture and found it was a bacterial infection. Last week I took my next antibodics and they did not work. Now I am on med # 4, Nitrofu-Macr... I took only 1 so far and I feel like heck!! I recently found out I was pregnant. Just before I found out, I had a UTI and took Macrobid. I had a blood test at the Dr.'s office soon after I finished the prescription and my HCG levels were very high. Three days later, they were normal again, and ultrasound shows a heartbeat and everything in the right place--not ectopic. I am trying to come up with an explanation for the initial elevated HCG. My thyroid is fine. My mother was given nitro furmac as result of several UTI infections year after year. Thinking the UTI was worsening and meds weren't working just yet, we didn't realize what was happening. She actually became non-responsive and had a stroke. All due to reaction of nitro furmac. Now on bactrim daily as a preventive antibiotic for infections. I have been having recurrent utis for a long time, so I went to a specialist (urologist) to see what was causing them and if he could do something to stop me from getting them as much. I usually get one every 3-5 weeks. Very frequently. He put me on nitrofur and at first it seemed fine like it was working but then I started feeling REALLY sick. I've been taking macrobid 2x a day for 4 days now, I have 3 more days left but the burning isn't too bad anymore but I still smell that UTI urine smell and I know my uti isn't gone yet and it maybe isn't even getting too much better. I have uti's often as a result of kidney infection is nitrofur a good med. to take? ## Although Nitrofurantoin macrocrystal is commonly used in treating urinary tract infections, it is noted on several webpages that it is not useful for treating kidney infections. I started taking Macrobid for a UTI, I only took one pill yesterday and one today. This afternoon my right eye hurts and waters some. I have had dry eye issues in the eye previously. I am also female and 62 years old. Will this go away when I quit the Macrobid? ## It might not, actually, according to the FDA, this medication has been known to cause optic neuritis, which can sometimes result in permanent damage to the optic nerve. It would be best to have this checked, because you may need to switch to a different medication. Have you experienced any other side effects?

Stopped taking Macrobid on day five in order to complete a gastric emptying scan. I resumed taking it on day six. I have four days left to complete my 10 day UTI treatment. Have I compromised it's effectiveness? So far, it seems to have worked wonders on my UTI. Thank you for your response-just worried I won't get rid of this nasty bug. ## Hello, Rose! How are you? Upon being release, not only did/do I have this severe, I believe the Dr, called it, UTI infection, but I have 2 other infections, dehydration, sinunitus, pneaumonia, and infected ears. I do have a variety of medications for each ailment, however, the only one I take more than once a day is the Nitro.Mac/Mono. I am so itchy my skin looks horrible and I cannot find any type of relief. I've NEVER itched like this unless I had poison ivy and now the calamine isnt even phasing this.
