Is Purata Sleeping Pill

I have been given Purata as a subsittute for Fluntrazpam which was suddenly taken off the market. I have a severe sleeping disorder that kept me on Fluntrazpan for 24 years. Purata is not performing the function and as a consequence I am being vert sleep deprived. What other medication is available to perform the function of Fluntrazpan that you can recommend ? I am 79 years old ! ## I am in South Africa where I have found the Purtata prescribed to be totally inadequate to aliviate insomnia, but I have found Dormicum and Arem to be adequate substitutes for Royhepnol and Fluntrazpam......... Arem is one fith the cost of Dormicium here but may go under different names elsewhere.

how safe is purata sleeping tablets? ## PURATA (Aspen Healthcare, South Africa) is not specifically used as a sleeping tablet; it is available in 10, 15 and 30mg strengths and is OXAZEPAM, one of the oldest and most commonly prescribed benzodiazepine anxiolytics. It is also used frequently in acute alcohol withdrawal. Oxazepam has a relatively short half life and is normally taken on a qds (four times daily) basis. It is less as dating than diazepam, which is comparatively stronger (30mg oxazepam is roughly equivalent to 10-12mg diazepam). There are brands available such as Serenid Forte and Seresta Forte which are of 50mg strength and are more suitable for aiding the onset of sleep. What is the difference between Purata and Urbanol and for what do you use them? Which one is the best to use with 10mg Lexamil an 120mg Gyn Gem.I also use Stilknox sleeping pills to sleep!I drink 5mg Urbanol one in the morning and one at night and i dont feel a difference ! ## Urbanol contains the active ingredient Clobazam, which is a Benzodiazepine that's used to treat anxiety and nervous disorders. I was diagnosed with BP2 and on Lithium, antidepressants etc and prescribed Purata for about a year to sleep at night (my brain just won't ever switch off) the Purata 30mg worked excellent but then I had colon problems and the spes said it could have been caused by all the meds I'm on, so I was weaned off everything. Then they discovered my colon was more than twice the normal lenght and it was shortened. I'm doing quite fine off all the meds except that I could not sleep. So last week doc prescribed 30mg Purata again, but now its not working at all! Is it because its the second time around? Should I take it just before going to bed or how long before it kicks in?
