Is Oxycontin Better Than Oxycodone

Many questions here seem to be about comparing one opioid to another. Your questions need to be about either relief of not and that taking say Oxycodone 15mg is effectively treating pain. Pain from one to another is subjective at best. Morphine is engineered for lasting longer than Oxycodone IR, immediate release. Therefore at first Oxycodone works well but doesn't last, requiring another dose then morphine or Oxycontin may work better lasting through a period of time. Oxycodone really is a breakthrough pain medication. Treatment using Oxycodone for longterm pain treatment is tricky and may take months or years to get right. It took 3 years and 3 different pain management plans to find something that works fairly well. The other issue is insurance, wheres Oxycontin is a name brand tier

Whats the difference between exalgo and opana and oxycontin? ## Hello, Dana! How are you? As listed by the FDA, all 3 of these narcotics contain a different active ingredient. Exalgo contains a time released formulation of Hydromorphone. Opana contains Oxymorphone and Oxycontin contains Oxycodone in a time released formulation. All are narcotics that carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation and dry mouth. Out of the 3, Exalgo is the strongest, next would be Opana, then Oxycontin. To give you a comparison, for each 5mg of Oxycontin, you'd only need 2.5mgs of Opana to be equivalent and 1.88mgs of Exalgo. Is there anything else I can help with?

Well unfortunately I really messed up and started taking OC twice a day 12 hours a part. I worked my way up to taking 40-60 mg in the morning and 80 mgs at night. i originally started using after severe depression and anxiety and wanting to feel better to fill an emotional void left by a really bad year in my life which led me to start using. No BS here, I wanted to feel better and unfortunately started using and am on week 14 of my addiction. I have had enough though and am just writing to share my story and experience and will continue to write during my detox. I feel ashamed, nervous, scared, and angry that I began using. Hello im currently taking oxycodone 30 mg i was taking 15 mg it seems like the 15s worked much better . I was prescribed 1 to 2 15 mg Oxicodone Amide every 6 hours. Is there a different type, maybe oxicodone hydrochloride that works better at same milligrams? ## There is a time release formulation of Oxycodone available, it is only available as the name brand Oxycontin and is taken ever 12 hours. The one manufactured by Amide is an instant release formulation, so it is meant to release all of the medication, as soon as you ingest them. There is also a regular release formulation that is available as a generic and under the name brand Roxicodone. Are there any other questions?

I have taken a 120 mg of oxycotin every day and I also take oxycocet for breakthru pain my regular Md tells me that I should not be able to feel pain anywhere in my body,is he right and I'm just a big baby or is he full of it. ## You are not a big baby, you are in chronic pain. I take 400 mgs of Oxycontin per day and a whole host of other drugs, including Norco and Oxycodone for BT pain. Find yourself a better Dr or Pain Clinic !

I am currently taking three 20mg oxycontin a day. Due to insurance reasons the Dr wants to switch me to dilaudid or morphine er. Given the choice, which one gives better pain relief and at what dose would be the equivalent to my 60 mg of oxy which is not currently controlling the pain? I am wondering how they compare to one another? ## Based on my research, Dilaudid is much stronger then Oxycodone, but it doesn't last very long in it's immediate release formula.
