I have been diagnosed with cellulitus on the inner side of my left leg at the ankle. Several years ago my ankle was severely broken and I spent 3 weeks in the hospital most of which was waiting for the swelling to go down enough that doctor could replace and fix the bone damage and close without having to use a halo device.One of the unfortunate side effects was poor circulation of the area. I have had the symptoms and low grade fever of the cellulitus since the 14th. My doctor was not in on the 17th and his NFP diagnosed it and wanted to send to the DR for IV antibiotics. I don't currently have insurance and didn't want to incur the expense. So I waited tell doctor was back on the 20th. He prescribed Keflex saying it spread anymore or the fever rose above 100 I would have to go...

shelf life of keflex ## Hi patty, From what I could gather, Keflex (Cephalexin) has a shelf life of 3 years. After this time frame, the medication may not be nearly as effective as it should be, and therefore may not be strong enough to eradicate certain types of infections at this point. If you do have expired antibiotics, it's probably a good idea to visit your doctor for a new script. This way you can at least be certain that it'll work the way it's supposed to and not cause drug resistant bacteria. It is usually used to treat bacterial infections (pneumonia, bone, ear, skin, urinary tract infections). The wrong antibiotics could possibly make it worse and lead to a stronger infection. I don't know which STD you are referring to, but I did find information stating that: Cefixime, ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, ceftriaxone, azithromycin, spectinomycin are the preferred and alternative drugs used for gonorrhea. Not sure about the other STD's. If anything, I think your best option would be going to your primary care physician and have him or her decide what will be most effective for the type of STD you are referring to.
