Hydromorph Contin
58 Topics FoundI have been on Hydromorph Contin 6mg for 2yrs for spinal stenosis and disc problems and the doctor gradually has increased the dosage (I take 2 pills in the am and 2 in the pm). The problem is that I have a sensitivity to codeine and morphine and eventually I cannot take the meds anymore. Is there other painkillers I can take that are not derived from codeine or morphine? I have also been on fentnyl patches but am allergic to the glue used on the patch. ## Did the Fentanyl help? Was the problem with it just caused by the allergy to the glue? If so, there is another option, available, it also comes in the form of a lollipop called Actiq. Here's the link to more details on it, so you can decide if it's something you'd like to discuss with your doctor: ## Have you ever tried na...
My sister has a chronic illness and severe chronic pain. Amongst other medications, she takes 12 mg. hydromorph contin three times a day, and also has 3 mg. hydromorph contin for higher pain days. Recently her pain has gotten substantially worse, and one day she opened a capsule of the 12 mg. strength, and noticed that the contents were changed. The capsules used to be filled with small "beads" of medication, but now they appear to be filled with a crystal like substance closely resembling sugar granules, and they are sweet, like sugar. Since then she has opened capsules of both strengths that she has been prescribed, and they are the same. Has there been some recent change in the manufacturing of Hydromorph Contin? Or does she need to be looking at her pharmacist? She is concer...
this capsule is grey and about an inch long and it has Hydromorph Contin on the top an a box with an l shape on the left side and a cross and on the top right it has a small line this is inside the box, next to it is the 24mg dossage. I would appreciate any help un learning more about this product. Thank-you Madge ## This is a controlled release formulation of the narcotic pain reliever Hydromorphone. Some of the most common side effects include: nausea, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
Is morphine stronger than hydromorph contin. I use to take 100 mg of morphine, I've since had 6 major back operations and now have titanium rods from my pelvis up to my occupant so I no longer am able to move my head at all for it's fused to my body. I'm taking 24mg of hydromorph contin. It doesn't work for me and I was wondering if just morphine is stronger for pain? ## Hello, Terry! How are you? No, the Hydromorphone is much stronger. You only need 1.5mgs of it for every 10mgs of Morphine. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Have you consulted your doctor? Are you on any other medications, or just this one?
I have been taking 24mg Hydromorph Contin for 3 years now 2 x day This does not work anymore. I was prescribed 50mg Kadian every 24hrs. They take the edge off better but after 18 hrs the pain is worse than when the Hydromorphone started to wear off. Can I take a higher dose or what would be better? ## Only your medical professional can help you decide what is safe for you. The NIH warns that these medications carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. How often were you told to take it? What other medications have you tried? Have you discussed this issue with your doctor?
Got hurt when I was in the military. I was a Ranger made a parachute jump one day parachute didn't open up all the way got ground hard. Continued to run 8 to 10 miles on a fractured leg r told I would be kicked out of the Rangers. Anyone who has been tab out and been in. A Ranger Bat. Know it is he'll on your body in the Ranger Battalion. My doctor started me on Norcos then Percocets. Now I'm on Hydromorphine M4. Told it was stronger but my pain is still there. Doctor told me not to get surgery till last resort. Need help on verge of loosing everything My job-my car - my home. Being a Ranger asking for help is usually not a option for us. Thank u for your time . ## I am very sorry about what you are going through. That's horrible and it's a shame that you are miserab...
Due to a physician error I am unable to get my prescription filled for 18 mg hydromorph contin, and he's now on vacation. I have old 100 mg tablets of ms contin that was prescribed in 2011. Can I take these safely as a substitute until I can resolve the prescription problem? ## Hello, Patty! How are you? It would take 72mgs of the MS Contin to equal each 18mgs of the Hydromorphone. However, the problem is that your MS Contin tablets are expired. Medications lose effectiveness over time, so you should actually dispose of them. Doubling up isn't safe to try, either, since that could result in an overdose. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mou...
I have chronic & debilating pain EVERYWHERE & after giving me Demerol & 240 percocet every 14 days, a pain management centre (after I PASSES "no drug seeking behavior, dr shopping or issues w/ random blood evaluations proving I only took what was RX'ed, don't drink/use rec drugs) but he is 86 yrs old & ill: expected to die & left me 2 find another Dr- after 8 yrs w/ him (Ambulatory Internal Medicine Specialist) & birth to 30 when my Dr retired w/ this referral- b4 I got sick, I was 13 yrs into my social work career in jails, nothing slowed me down ever. I didn't believe in FIBROMYALGIA but an arthritis specialist did diagnostics & said it's so severe, I scored all but one symptom (based on his exams/evaluations) I cannot do 85% of what I d...

If any body could give me answers I'd apprectate it. I have to switch my next visit, in about ten days If he is doing the exalgo I am going for that. there is alot of hassle around it though. Answers thanks1 ## Hydromorphone is commonly prescribed under the trade name Dilaudid. It is also the ingredient in the Exalgo. Common side effects to it may include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and constipation. Learn more: Are ther...
My husband has been on hydromorphone 24 mg extended release for well over a year with great results... no break thru pain etc.. Recently workers comp has requested that he change to the Fentanyl patch due to cost. Almost immediately he had horrible side effects that have continued... He is on day 3 and just been told that it's because he is in withdrawal from the hydromorphone and they are increasing the Fentanyl. Does anyone else have any input on this? Fentanyl vs hydromorphone? Any help/info would be appreciated. ## What is the dose he has been prescribe of the Fentanyl patch? The ratio from 24mgs of Hydromorphone would be 0.32mgs of Fentanyl, so yes, if he was given too low of an amount, he might be dealing with withdrawals issues. What side effects has he been dealing with? The...
Been on 12-8mg dilaudid for decades, tapering down to 120mg so far. Pain dr added 2mg SL Buprenorphine twice a day. Been using for 8 weeks. No problems at all. No withdrawal whatsoever. The added buprenorphine in combination with dilaudid works incredibly well for nerve pain. Am going to continue to taper dilaudid to a lower amount slowly. May or may not be on both for a long time. Will increase SL buprenorphine as I decrease dilaudid. Who knows, I may end up taking no dilaudid, but only if the nerve pain does not build up with a vengeance. Anyone else having the same benefit I have had taking both? ## Buprenorphine tends to block the effect of other opiates in most people that take it, so I don't think you will find many people that have had as good of an experience as you. However...
Hello~I'm on oxy 80's and dilaudid 4mgs which are prescribed for back pain. The oxys alone don't help at all. I get dilaudids tomorrow, but will be out of oxys. Does anyone know if the dilaudid alone will help? Thanks ## How did it work? Did you get any pain relief? Dilaudid contains the active ingredient Hydromorphone, which is very potent, but if you've been taking 80mgs of the Oxycodone, then you'd need 30mgs of it to be equivalent for analgesia. Learn more Dilaudid details here. Learn more Oxycodone details here. ## Hey! I sort of figured out the conversion and was taking 30 mg. or more of Dilaudid a day. I continue to be in around the clock pain. I believe I need to take the Oxycontin and Dilaudid in conjunction with one another. Thanks for responding! ## 10 MGS...
Hi, I'm currently prescribed OxyContin 30mg every 8 hours and Dilaudid 4mg every 4 hours PRN for breakthrough and my doctor that I saw is internal medicine and doesn't want to continue these scripts regularly anymore. I know it's hard to find a doctor/PM Clinic that will do med management but these meds are pretty mild (30mg oxycodone released over 12 hours is 2.5mg/hour and Dilaudid 4mg works amazing for pain, hydromorphone for me is a godsend for my back pain. I can literally feel my spine relax and pain dissolve within minutes after taking my Dilaudid. I live downstate about 2 hours away but doctors in my rural area just don't prescribe these meds and we have no pain clinics or pain management for crap. I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction as far as
Filed under OxyContinI am wondering if dilaudid is stronger than oxycontin? morphine? norco? norco 10/325? liquid 40ml norco 2.5mg/5ml? ## Dilaudid contains the active ingredient Hydromorphone. That said, it is a potent narcotic, and what it is stronger than depends on the dosage of each. It is not stronger than most dosages of Oxycodone, but is stronger than some. Oxycodone is the strongest product on the market approved to treat pain. Whether it is stronger than the others also depends on what dose of the Dilaudid you're asking about. Was this prescribed for you? You can read more about it here: ## Actually, Opana (oxymorphone) is about 2 to 3 times stronger than oxycodone, or contin. I went from a oxy 30mg ER to an Opana 10mg and have had the best results as far as pain relief. ## can you list the le...
I take 12 mg hydromorph contin twice a day for chronic pain. Until I get to the doc for a new prescription, I only have 18 mg capsules left... Can I remove some of the granules to reduce the strength until I get to the doc ( probably after the holidays). And, any idea how many I would need to remove? Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me.
I just want to know if 12mg of hydromorph contin is stronger or weaker than morphine 200mg. Is hydromorph contin a strong opioid just in general? ## Hello, Annabelle! How are you? Each 12mgs of Hydromorphone is equal to 48mgs of Morphine, so the Hydromorphine is stronger, by a ratio of 1 to 4, each 1mg of it is equal to 4mgs of Morphine. The U.S. FDA warns that these medications carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Is hydromorphine clear colored as well? Out of curiosity not for use.
My fiancé has been receiving hydromorphone 8mg tablets for fibromyalgia and several herniated discs for over 4 years now. For most people in the same situation as my fiance and those who are prescribed similar medication for chronic pain know about the problems that are continuing to occur when filling theses particular medications. We are well aware of the epidemic and abuse of this medication and medications like it however his diagnosis' is legit as well as his prescriptions and we constantly have a difficult time filling his prescriptions. He works for bright house and does extremely hard work outside as a lineman and needs this medication to function at work and through daily activities. I hate to say but young people who have taken advantage of these pills and used them f...
Filed under HydromorphoneI dont like taking any drugs but iv had three back surgerys ,Is dilaudid 4mg or ms cotin60mg. ## The 60mg MS Contin, Morphine, would actually be a stronger dose, to equal it, you would need 15mgs of the Dilaudid, Hydromorphone. Both are narcotics and can cause side effects, such as: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and headache. Read more: Are there any questions or comments? ## Ok I have to many pain problems to write down but I take 50 of fentanyl &15oxys 1 2 day of patch plus was on 2 of dulliad they r giving me problems with this new doctor my other one passed away help what can I get to replace thr the 2 of dulliaud ## Dilaudid is 10 times stronger then Morphine taken PO. I have been dealing with back pain and surgeries since 2006 and I am now at the point that my meds are not working very well and I really do not want to go any higher. I take 9mg of Hydromorph contin twice a day and 2mg of dilaudid 8+/day, 75mg lyrica twice/day, celebrex 200mg/day and celexa 20mg/day. I need to have my third surgery-spinal fusion in three levels and I am wondering what others have experienced and what other meds out there might work better or is there anything new?? I am 38 years old and a mother of four young children and this is all but broken me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advanced and be well. ## hi there I don't want to seem to be a pest but does anyone have any input to add to my post, where can I get the answers I need or is this a pl...
Hi, I am a 41 year old male suffering from Lumbar Spinal Stenosis, Degenerative Disc Disease and a Bulging Disc in my lower back. My pain is constant with little or no relief. My pain management doctor has me on Hydromorph Contin 12mg twice a day and Percocet 5/325mg for breakthrough pain. My question is what can I ask him to prescribe me for better pain relief. My pain got so bad about a week before Christmas I resorted to using a push pin, the type for hanging posters on the wall to scratch my arm to defer my pain from my back. I called his office and talked to his nurse to tell her how bad my pain was getting. I broke down crying on the phone, my pain was a 9 out of 10 for that previous week. Usually my pain is a constant 6 out of 10. ## Have you tried something such as straight Oxyc...
