Hi, My doctor has prescribed 10 mg lexamil for me and I havnt started taking it yet. I've been suffering with anxiety for a while and taking .5 mg alzam and 7.5 mg zopiclone to manage the condition. However the last 3 months ive been having tight chest pains, been for ecgs xrays etc, all clear..doc prescribed muscle relaxant which works a little bit but I find if i take half a zopiclone it really eases off the tightness immediately. I know this has something to do with gaba receptors but what I would really like to know is if anyone else has had these symptoms and if going on 10mg lexamil in conjunction wit the alzam n zopiclone will help with the anxiety? ## Hello, Ash! How are you? Yes, Lexamil might help more, but it can take about 4 to 5 weeks to reach its full level of efficacy...

I have been taking Cipralex/Lexamil 20mg for a number of years and would like to come off them. I am currently taking one every other day. I would like a tapering off plan as I am not sure how long it takes to come off them? I know its gradual but is it weeks or months? Thank you ## just keep slowly reducing you intake of the med. for each decrease in the amount of the dose say you want to go from 20 to 10, you will have to take about one to two months slowly decreasing the frequency when you take it. say you start with one day for two weeks then two days and so on until you get it down to taking only 5mg once a week then cut that in half and taper that off for about a month and then just stop altogether. I did that when i was taking 1000mg of oxycontin a day. it takes awhile but it doe...

Weight gain has occurred even though i am dieting and exercising currently. Please help ## Since you have already stopped the Lexamil, and you're experiencing the weight gain, and bloating, over a month after, it is most likely unrelated to the medication. I was prescribed Lexamil 5mg and I took 1 on the 11.11.2010 before reading the prescription note. I am feeling so overweight, and my bowel movement is totally altered. How long does the effects last? Alternatively how do I reverse this? ## Lexamil contains the active ingredient Escitalopram, it is an antidepressant. Yes, many of them can cause some weight gain, however, taking on pill is not enough to have that effect. It may have caused some bloating and intestinal upset, however, these are normal side effects and should wear off in a few weeks as your body adjusts to the medication. There is also no way to reverse it, other than to just stop taking it for awhile. Have you spoken to your doctor about this? ## I have been on Lexamil for about 18 months now and I struggle terribly with m...

I would like to go off Lexamil 10mg. How can I do it ? Can I leave it at once ? ## How long have you been taking it and what has your doctor advised? Lexamil contains the active ingredient Escitalopram, which is an SSRI antidepressant and, if you've been taking it for a long period of time, then a sudden cessation may cause withdrawal and rebound effects, which may be worse than the condition you started taking it to treat. In most cases, it is best to taper these types of medications, as slowly as possible. ## I've been using it for 9 months now. Should I first reduse it. I'm gaining wait and think it is the Lexamil. ## Yes, you should definitely speak to your doctor about a tapering plan to get off of it and avoid most of the withdrawal and rebound effects. They may even b...

I am in the process of getting off of it now. Can my weight gain be caused by Lexamil as I have bee eating better and exercising more since I was diagnosed with depression and drinking the Lexamil but still gained weight. Thank you in advance. ## Hello, Mina! How are you? Yes, that can be a side effect of this medication, as reported by the U.S. FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings and dry mouth. Are you on any other medications? Are you tapering off of this one? ## I amcurrently tapering down and started with the 5ml. I have experienced dizziness now that I am decreasing my ...

Am almost weaned off of Lexamil 10mg but now I am desperate to lose the weight that I gained whilst on the drug. Any suggestions to kick start the weight loss would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ## Hello, Bev! How are you? Pretty much just the usual ways, get plenty of exercise and eat a healthy diet that's low in fat and control your caloric intake. When I'd gained some weight after being on a similar medication for years, I started walking and the weight fell off very fast. I still walk everywhere I can, it's great exercise. Does anyone else have any ideas to add?

I have been on Lexamil 20mg for about 2 months now (started at 5mg and increased slowly) and unless I take it with Aterax at night then I battle to fall asleep. I also find that I have vivid dreams that leave me exhausted in the morning. Lexamil has made me feel better except for this. Should these side effects stop if I take the Lexamil in the morning? ## Have you discussed it with your doctor? Lexamil contains the active ingredient Escitalopram and some doctors do direct it to be taken at night, since it can cause drowsiness as a side effect, but some people do much better taking it in the morning. When is the last time the dosage was increased? That may also have something to do with the side effects, as it can take several weeks for them to start to taper off and it's natural to...

Hi. I'm female 27 years and used lexamil for 3 years since my second baby due to severe depression. I gained 10kg's in the first 3 months and it made me feel better. I could at least work and function a bit better. It only started getting better now. I have today decided not to take it any more. It's just too expensive and makes me gain weight and I feel so sleepy all the time since I have been taking it. I sometimes feel off balance. If I stop taking it I start to stare into space lol. But I am going to try it once again, with people monitoring my behaviour if they see I need to take it again. I want to take control of my life again. Lose the weight and cope on my own. I feel terrible today, I feel nauseous! But guess what....my emotions are fine! I noticed after leaving it...

My husband takes Lexamil 10 mg for depression for 7days now. He just sits and stares and do not react to anything. Is there a natural or herbal replacement for this medicine. Its as if he has stopped living. Thanks ## Hello, Kotie! How is your husband doing? Is this the only medication that he's taking? Such side effects should wear off in a few weeks, once his body gets used to the medication. But it could be that this just isn't the right antidepressant for him and he may need to try a different one. Is this the first medication in this class that he's tried? Are you sure he's only taking 10mgs?

I took Lexamil 10 mg per day for about 7 months suffered weight gain. Are there any known side effects on the liver as I developed a liver dysfunction 6 months after being off lexamil ## Did your doctor feel that it had any effect on the liver dysfunction? Like most medications, it is processed through the liver, but generally hasn't been known to cause problems, unless someone already had liver damage, or failure. ## I had an anomaly on liver function test on 20 mg escitalapram this wasput down to the escitalapram by my doctor however on later tests it had returned to normal

I have am also taking lexamil 10mg a day. In the first few weeks i suffered from awful headaches and my neck became incredibly stiff and leg muscle spasms, also a big increase in my appetite. I continued through that my appetite is ok now and the headaches are gone, just some days i still get a terribly stiff neck like a type of pressure up my spine, very uncomfortable. I am def. more emotionally balanced, cry less etc. However, I dont think any pill will take all your stress away, that is something one needs to work on yourself with the support of the medication. NEVER JUST STOP YOUR MEDS, you need to be weaned off of them. It has taken a few months to get to a better place while using the medication it does not happen over a few days as it needs to build up in your system and reach a ...

Hi, Within 3 months i have to undergo chemo theraphy and the anti-hormoonpil.Breastcancer-had a mastectomy. At the moment I am taking Lexamil. Is there reason to get off Lexamil. Thank you Mrs Anita Fourie ## You should check with your doctor(s). Sometimes it may be necessary to stop other medications, but it depends on the specifics of your treatment and the risks involved and only your doctor will be able to advise you on this matter. For instance, if it increases the risks of bleeding, there may be another medication they want to give you that may make the risk worse. Do you know what drugs they'll be using? Are there any other questions or comments?
