How Long Does Lo Loestrin Fe Take To Be Effective
30 Topics FoundI started loestrin 24 on the 5th day of my period and would like to know how long until it is effective. The nurse practitioner said one full packet of pills but that conflicts with almost everything else Ive heard or read. Any advice/opinions/info appreciated. ## Loestrin 24 (active ingredients Ethinyl Estradiol + Norethindrone Acetate) is different with everyone. Some cases are 14 days and other cases are one month. With most birthcontrols it is recomended to use other forms of birthcontrol during the first month (ie condoms). In my opinion I would still use protection while taking Loestrin 24 for at least a month, better safe than sorry. Do you have any more questions or concerns, please post back and I would be happy to help. ## i have been on loestrin 24 fe for now alomost 2 months...
So i am going to finish my latest pack of loestrin 24 fe and i wanted to delay my next month's period by a week. Would waiting a exactly a week after my regular start date, to start my next pack be okay? if so, would i have to use back up protection the whole month or just until a week after using active pills? ## You would just need a back up form of contraception for the first week of taking active pills.. Alternatively, if you can pick up an extra pack of pills, rather than skipping a week, you could just continue taking active pills and skip the inactive ones that would induce your menstrual cycle. I sometimes get my period and sometimes don't, so I am wondering if I were to have intercourse while on the white or purple pill am I still protected from pregnancy? ## Hello, Chels! How are you? As long as you haven't missed any of the active tablets, then you are protected, regardless of whether or not you have a period. The FDA lists the other possible side effects of oral contraceptives as including nausea, dizziness, headache, weight changes and PMS-like symptoms. Is there anything else I can help with?
This morning when I meant to take my third blue pill in the pack, it was i couldn't see so I accidentally had my pack upside down and instead took the second white pill that i should take at the end of the pack. When i realized what i did i took the correct blue pill immediately, but now i will only have one white pill when the time comes to take it at the end of the month. Is it okay to take only one white pill and then have three days of placebo, one where i just don't take any pill? Or is it okay to skip the last 4 pills altogether and just start my new pack right after my last blue one? Which option will not decrease the effectiveness of the pill? ## Hello, Anna! How are you? Sorry about what happened. If your doctor approves, you should be able to do whichever option works ...
How long do I have to take Lo Loestrin Fe before it's effective for PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder)? I just started taking it today and I would like to know what to expect. ## Unfortunately, there is really no way to give a definitive response, it can vary from person to person. Some have a great response the first month, but for others it may take several months. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irregular bleeding, and PMS-like symptoms. Have you experienced any improvements, yet?
Got period on Monday. Went to OBGYN to start BC...Thursday. Insert says to start on the first day of period, but can I start taking it today? Should I start on Sunday? Should I wait until my next period? ## You can actually start it at any time, but if it is later than the 2nd day of your period, you'll need to wait a full 7 days for it to become effective at preventing pregnancy, which means no unprotected intercourse until the 8th day. If you start it the first or second day of your period, it will become immediately effective and no additional protection is needed. Is there anything else I can help with?
So I started my first pack of lo loestrin fe on the 3rd and on the 16th I started spotting and It still hasnt stopped (todays the 25th) me and my boyfriend do not use condoms just the bc so should I be worried? I started spotting the day I was supposed to start my period. ## Hello, Baby! How are you? DId you start them on the first day of your period? If not, then you weren't immediately protected from pregnancy. If you start them at any other point in your cycle, you have to take them for 7 days, before they are fully effective. You're only immediately protected if you start taking them on the first day of your period. Have you consulted your doctor? Spotting can be normal, while your body is adjusting to the hormones, but it's best to get yourself checked out, just in case.
Hey guys. So I take both Lo Loestrin Fe and Trileptal for my bipolar-ness. I know that theres an ingrediant in Trileptal that can make the pill less effective, however I take a low dose of it (300 mg). I dont know how effective it is with it being at such a low dosage. Any help would be great. ## HI, Faith! How are you? From what I can find, it doesn't matter what the dose if of the Trileptal, it affects the metabolism of the estrogen hormone in these types of contraceptives, which greatly reduces their effectiveness and means that you are most likely not protected against pregnancy. Learn more Trileptal details here. The recommendation is that you use a non-hormonal form of contraception. Are there any other questions or concerns? ## Really I just wanted to know if at least some of...
So, I'm considering taking Lo Loestrin FE and I'm very nervous about it. When will it start being effective when I first start taking it? I have a terrible fear of vomit so I'm wondering if it will make me vomit? Please help. ## It typically takes a week for this medication to reach its full level of effectiveness in your body to prevent pregnancy. Thus, you'd need to use a backup method of contraception until the 8th day. Unless you start it on the first day of your period, then it will be effective immediately. The FDA lists the typical side effects of oral contraceptives as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, breakthrough bleeding and PMS-like symptoms. Thus yes, there is a risk it could make you vomit. Is there anything else I can help with?
First time taking pills. the second pack is almost finished. during the first pack, i was spotting non-stop, then had my period on time but extremely light spotting for 3 days or less. Now I haven't gotten my period yet even though it should have been normally. I am very worrying about being pregnant already...... ## Have you skipped any pills? If not, then there isn't a very big chance that you are pregnant, because oral contraceptives are over 99% effective, when taken properly. As to skipping your time of the month, that can be completely normal, because your body has to adjust to the hormones in the medication. ## I am currently taking Lo Loestrin Fe, and i have noticed that I have been having break through bleeding almost every time I start a new pack or a couple weeks befo...
Hi. I just got my prescription of lo loestrin fe today and my period started a week ago (Thursday) and ended on Saturday. It is now the Thursday after my start day, to start today would I still take the very first blue pill in the package and will it change when my period starts? ## Hello, Mary! How are you? Yes, if you want to start today you can, but you'll need to use backup protection for the first 7 days, because it takes that long for it to become effective in your body. However, if your doctor approves, you can start at any time. And yes, again. Your period should occur the last week of pills, so it would be slightly later that usual. The FDA lists the typical side effects of oral contraceptives as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, weight gain and ...
If I have started the pill on the first day of my current period, how long do I have to take the pill in order for it to protect me against pregnancy without using a condom? ## Hello, Moria! How are you? If started on the first day of your period, it is effective immediately, according to the FDA information, because it should prevent ovulation from occurring this cycle. Typical side effects to oral contraceptives are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, breakthrough bleeding and PMS like symptoms. Is there anything else I can help with?
I'm on the forth week of my bc pack. Already finished with the blue pills. I missed my first white pill but took it the next day with my other white pill at the same time. And today I start my brown placebo pills. I also had intercourse the day I took both white pills. Am I protected? Or should I take plan b? ## Hello, Mackenzie! How are you? Plan B is only effective in the first 5 days, after intercourse, so it wouldn't do any good to take it now. It's most effective in the first 24 hours, retains most efficacy for 72 hours, then its effectiveness at preventing pregnancy dwindles and after day 5, it does nothing. Did you start your period? The FDA lists the typical side effects of oral contraceptives as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, breakthro...
I've been on Lo Loestrin Fe for 6 months.Recently, when I refilled my prescription, they gave me Loestrin 24 Fe instead. I had to go out of state and couldn't get to a pharmacy, so I've been on Loestrin 24 Fe for a week now. I finally got a pack of the correct pills, but I'm worried about the consequences of switching types mid-pack. I don't want to make it less effective. ## Unless your doctor or pharmacist has specified some reason why it cannot be done, most birth control tablets can just be smoothly switched from one to the other, without any decrease in effectiveness. However, any hormonal fluctuations are a different story and could result in spotting, cramping, irritability and etc. for a few days. Learn more oral contraceptive details here. You should definit...
I have been on this pill for over 2 years. The past few months I have had breakthrough bleeding at some time in the month. Can the pill start becoming ineffective? I am under a lot of stress right now and about to graduate college. ## Have you consulted your doctor? It should remain effective, as long as you are taking it daily, as you are supposed to do. However, the stress can have some effect on the hormones in your body and may cause menstrual irregularities, such as breakthrough bleeding, even if you weren't taking hormonal contraceptives. ## Talk to your doctor. I have been on loestrin 24 fe for almost 4 years and have been having similar issues over the last 6 months or so. My doctor said its still effective but sometimes your body/medication rhythm just needs to be "rese...
If I don't want to get my period on weekends is it ok the start y first pack of loestrtin fe on Friday which is the 4th day of my period? My doctor said you are supposed to start the day after my period ends but would rather start on a Friday. ## Hello, Jenn! How are you? That's very odd, you are normally supposed to start them the first or second day of your period, so they are immediately effective at protecting you against pregnancy, according to the FDA. You can actually start them at any time, but if it is later in your cycle than the first or second of your period, it will take 7 days, before they become effective to prevent pregnancy, which means you will have to use a backup method of contraception until the 8th day of taking them. The typical side effects are listed as ...
I just started taking birth control and it's been about 3 weeks now! My boyfriend came in me today. Coul I be pregnant? Help !!! Also I'm still bleeding ## Hi, Ashley! How are you? Did you start taking it on the first day of your period? If so, then you were immediately protected from pregnancy, because it prevents ovulation from occurring, unless you missed any pills. If you started later during your period, or at some other part of your cycle, then it becomes effective after 7 days. The bleeding can be a normal side effect, due to your body needing to get used to the hormones in these contraceptives, but you should consult your doctor to be certain. ## Yes I started the moment I saw that I was bleeding! I haven't been taking it at the exact same time though because I wasn...
My doctor til me to start taking the pills right when my period comes but I missed it twice! So I'm on my third day of my cycle so I started to take it is that okay? What should I do if not? ## Hello, Karla! How are you? If you start them on the first or second day of your period, then you are immediately protected against pregnancy. If you start them later than that, you'll need to take them for a full 7 days, before they will be effective, so you'd need to use a backup method of contraceptive for that week. Is there anything else I can help with?
Hi, Can I start the pill although my period was on a Friday and today is a Tuesday? I have taken a break of 2 months from taking the pill. Do I need to use other protection beyond the 7 days recommended? thanks. ## You can start them at any time, unless your doctor says otherwise, but that's when you need to use backup protection for the first 7 days. If you start it when on your period, then it is effective immediately. The FDA lists the typical side effects of oral contraceptives as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, breakthrough bleeding and PMS-like symptoms. Could I start before my cylce or is it better to wait till the first day ?? ## Hello, Annie! How are you? There is no hard and fast rule, but what you need to know is that if you start it on the first or second day of your period, then you will be immediately protected against pregnancy. However, if you start it at any day later in your cycle, you'll need to take it for a full 7 days, before it becomes effective, so you will have to use some other form of contraception, until the 8th day of taking them.
