How Long Does It Take For Celexa To Work

I have both Anxiety and Depression, tried several SSRIs that didn't work. Dr put me on Celexa 10mg beginning April 1st...he warned me it would be rough at first. THAT is the truth... I have been SO much worse with anxiety... So I've only been on that low dose for 2 weeks. I feel SO discouraged because am not having ANY signs of feeling one bit better. Could you please share your experiences with me about how long it took. Hi....Here's the short version of my story. I was on effexor for 13 years, started out at 37.5mg for probably 9 years and had absolutely No problems with anxiety. I was so good that I decided to stop taking it. Felt great for 3 months then I had a terrible attack in the middle of the night. Went to doc she put me back on and all said and done was up to 225mg to make me feel "normal". From there I stayed on that dose until about 6 weeks ago. Again I woke up in the middle of the night with a panic attack. Unfortunately they don't just stop, they go on for days and weeks! I immediately went to my doc and she upped me to 300mg of effexor, after a couple weeks we decided it just wasn't working anymore. I have been on celexa since June for gad and depression. First 10 mgs, felt good for a few days, then 20 for two weeks began to feel better for more days, but still not 100 percent. Now on 40 mgs and still do not feel good for two weeks. In the past I have taken Lexapro and zoloft which worked for a few years then stopped working. I just started taking Celexa tonight 2.5mg to ease into it. I am extremely sensitive to medications. I took prozac last year after devastating miscarriage. I have been off it a year and now my depression and anxiety is back with a vengeance. Help! I feel like my anxiety and depression is worse and it was a super low dose? IM ON 8MG OF SUBOXONE AND JUST GOT PRESCRIBED CITALOPRAM 2 DAYS AGO. WHATS PEOPLES COMMENTS ON TAKING THESE 2 DRUGS TOGETHER. HI. I switched from zoloft to celexa 20mg almost four weeks ago. I feel like Im going downhill more and more everyday this past week. I truly do not think it is a matter of increasing. I am very skeptical about this particular generic. It is an egg shape and kind of a tan color. On the scored side it says 20 and the other side says 1010. I get it from Target. I do not think it is an active medication. Are their crappy generics that have zero effect? Thank you for your time. ## You probably just need the brand specifically. I was asked by my doc to start taking 2mg of Abilify because after taking 20mg of Celexa a month I'm not feeling much relief. I'm very leery because I've been working on straightening out a thyroid issue that has caused me to gain ten pounds in the last two months, and I understand that Abilify is a weight gainer. hi I'm Beth I have been on celexa for 10 days now, 40 milligrams, the last 4 days I have felt like superwoman which is awesome, but last night and today I just want to lay under a rock and not leave the house. very tired and sleepy. heart rate is up feeling a little Maybe feeling a little anxious. I also take 150 milligrams of Topamax a day which is 50 milligrams 3 times a day. Hi, I take 40 mgs of celexa a day, however, mistaking it for another one of my scripts ( silly me for not looking at the label) I may have taken as much as 200 mgs. Is it possible NOT to have any side effects? I am 57 years old and about a year ago began taking lorzapam for anxiety (additional stress with work situation - layoffs and bankruptcy of the co). I learned that lorazapam was addictive, so I talked to my dr about changing to a different med. She receommended zoloft, but I didn't feel as tho I felt the way I should, so now I'm taking Celexa. I'm feeling better after taking it for the last couple of months, although I really dislike the dry mouth and weight gain. I used to walk 3 miles a day 5-6 days per week and lost about 12 lbs. i wanted to know if iam already methadone is it safe to take celexa? ## It is actually recommended that combining the two be avoided and an alternative medication be used in replace of the Celexa, if someone is already on Methadone. Combining the two of them increases the risk of QT prolongation, cardiac arrhythmias and a couple of other health risks. Did your doctor prescribe both? ## I'm on 60mg of methadone for the past year. Is it ok to take a yellow xanax at the same time as a 1 mg celexa and a pain pill? ## Mixing Xanax and Celexa can cause side effects to be worse and this can include respiratory depression, so you do need to be careful of doing so. As to the pain medication, I cannot answer you, since you did not say exactly what it was and there are many analgesics on the market. DOES ANYBODY HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH TAKING 40MG CELEXA ONCE DAILY VERSUS 20MG IN THE MORNING AND 20 MG AT NIGHT? THANKS! ## I moved up to 40 mg once daily about 1 year ago. I've been taking Citalopram 20 mg for two weeks now, for anxiety. It took around 7 days to kick in, but I suffered anxiety symptoms in second week and had a very mild stomach ache and bloated feeling. Has anyone had a similar experience? ## Citalopram, the active ingredient in Celexa, is an antidepressant. It can take several weeks to reach its full effect and help relieve your anxiety, if it does not work in the next 1 to 2 weeks, please make sure to contact your doctor. And yes, the things you are experiencing can be normal side effects of this medication, you may also experience symptoms that include dizziness and headache.
