How Long Does It Take For Celexa To Work
50 Topics FoundI have both Anxiety and Depression, tried several SSRIs that didn't work. Dr put me on Celexa 10mg beginning April 1st...he warned me it would be rough at first. THAT is the truth... I have been SO much worse with anxiety... So I've only been on that low dose for 2 weeks. I feel SO discouraged because am not having ANY signs of feeling one bit better. Could you please share your experiences with me about how long it took. I'd really appreciate it, thanks. ## Yes, it can take about 4 to 5 weeks for this class of medications to reach their full level of efficacy in your body and for you to know how well it may, or may not work for you. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood changes, and weight changes. How are ...
Hi....Here's the short version of my story. I was on effexor for 13 years, started out at 37.5mg for probably 9 years and had absolutely No problems with anxiety. I was so good that I decided to stop taking it. Felt great for 3 months then I had a terrible attack in the middle of the night. Went to doc she put me back on and all said and done was up to 225mg to make me feel "normal". From there I stayed on that dose until about 6 weeks ago. Again I woke up in the middle of the night with a panic attack. Unfortunately they don't just stop, they go on for days and weeks! I immediately went to my doc and she upped me to 300mg of effexor, after a couple weeks we decided it just wasn't working anymore. We chose citalopram as the next option because my brother has had succ...
I have been on celexa since June for gad and depression. First 10 mgs, felt good for a few days, then 20 for two weeks began to feel better for more days, but still not 100 percent. Now on 40 mgs and still do not feel good for two weeks. In the past I have taken Lexapro and zoloft which worked for a few years then stopped working. They both kicked in within 10 days of takingI cannot take Effexor as it raises my blood pressure. I am thinking this maynot be working. I am scared ## Hello, Jessica! How are you doing? How long have you been taking the current dose? It usually takes 3 to 5 weeks for this medication to reach its full level of efficacy in your body, so you may just have to give it more time. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, dry mou...
I just started taking Celexa tonight 2.5mg to ease into it. I am extremely sensitive to medications. I took prozac last year after devastating miscarriage. I have been off it a year and now my depression and anxiety is back with a vengeance. Help! I feel like my anxiety and depression is worse and it was a super low dose? I'm worried it won't work as I tried to go back on prozac but the side effects were too much. ## Actually, if you read the information provided by the FDA and the NIH, it is very common for this to happen, when you start taking such a medication. They can actually worsen things for about 3 weeks, or so, until your body gets used to the medication. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight changes. However, if you feel that...

I take lipitor, lisinopril, celexa, vitamins B12, C, D, E, folic acid, fish oil, can you tell me hate is the best times to take them? ## A lot of it really depends on what works best for you and/or if your doctor has given you any special dosing instructions. For instance, in most cases it's preferred to take a blood pressure/cardiac medication like the Lisinopril in the morning, so it can help control your medical condition during the time of day that you're most active and will naturally experience the most fluctuations. And the vitamins, especially the B12 can give an energy boost, so they are usually best taken in the morning, so they don't cause insomnia. However, in some cases, the vitamin D can cause some drowsiness, especially in higher doses, so many people take it ...
IM ON 8MG OF SUBOXONE AND JUST GOT PRESCRIBED CITALOPRAM 2 DAYS AGO. WHATS PEOPLES COMMENTS ON TAKING THESE 2 DRUGS TOGETHER. I FEEL OK SO FAR ACTUALLY I FEEL ALOT BETTER, BUT I STILL WANNA KNOW WHAT OTHER PEOPLE GOT TO SAY ABOUT THEM. THANKS ## im on the same meds and was wondering how these 2 worked for you together.. ## I am also on Suboxone 8mg/2mg and i'm prescribed Celexa 20mg. I have been taking the Celexa for about 4 months now and I feel alot better. The Celexa gives me energy. I am a PCA and I work 60 hours a week. ## These two drugs are fine to take together. I have been on celexa for over 5 years and suboxone for 1 week. My doctor said they are fine together and i personally dont feel anyhting from the combo. ## Cool thsnks sll
HI. I switched from zoloft to celexa 20mg almost four weeks ago. I feel like Im going downhill more and more everyday this past week. I truly do not think it is a matter of increasing. I am very skeptical about this particular generic. It is an egg shape and kind of a tan color. On the scored side it says 20 and the other side says 1010. I get it from Target. I do not think it is an active medication. Are their crappy generics that have zero effect? Thank you for your time. ## You probably just need the brand specifically. Some states say that if there is a generic available and the dr doesn't specify "brand only" you will get a generic. Talk to your dr because sometimes generics don't work for some people. ## It may also be caused by the switch in medications, around 4 ...
I was asked by my doc to start taking 2mg of Abilify because after taking 20mg of Celexa a month I'm not feeling much relief. I'm very leery because I've been working on straightening out a thyroid issue that has caused me to gain ten pounds in the last two months, and I understand that Abilify is a weight gainer. Do the benefits of being on Abilify outweigh the side effects of being on it? Please give me your thoughts and experiences. Remember it's only a 2mg supplement to the 20mg of Celexa I've been on. ## Hello, Rocky! How are you? It is approved as an adjunct to antidepressants in doses from 2mg to 5mg daily. It may cause some weight gain, as listed by the FDA, along with nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and sedation. However, most side effects are transie...
hi I'm Beth I have been on celexa for 10 days now, 40 milligrams, the last 4 days I have felt like superwoman which is awesome, but last night and today I just want to lay under a rock and not leave the house. very tired and sleepy. heart rate is up feeling a little Maybe feeling a little anxious. I also take 150 milligrams of Topamax a day which is 50 milligrams 3 times a day. I have been own that for well over a year. they just switched me from lexapro 20 milligrams a day to the celexa 40 milligrams a day. so I'm not sure how much is this I'm feeling is the changing from one medication to another and my body getting readjusted to the new medication or the new medication beginning to work in my body I'm not sure? Any advice? ## Hello, Beth! How are you? It is most likel...
Hi, I take 40 mgs of celexa a day, however, mistaking it for another one of my scripts ( silly me for not looking at the label) I may have taken as much as 200 mgs. Is it possible NOT to have any side effects? I've been on Celexa for at least 5 years and I still get that brain zapping on the 40 so its possible I need to go up anyway ( but of course not to 200) ## FYI - nothing happened ## Hello, Laseven! How are you doing? I'm very glad that nothing untoward happened. However, there could be some risk of some type of organ damage, though it's not very high, but in light of that, I think you should contact your doctor and let them know. They may need to do some blood work to check your liver and kidney function, just to be safe. Learn more Celexa details here. Are there any o...
I am 57 years old and about a year ago began taking lorzapam for anxiety (additional stress with work situation - layoffs and bankruptcy of the co). I learned that lorazapam was addictive, so I talked to my dr about changing to a different med. She receommended zoloft, but I didn't feel as tho I felt the way I should, so now I'm taking Celexa. I'm feeling better after taking it for the last couple of months, although I really dislike the dry mouth and weight gain. I used to walk 3 miles a day 5-6 days per week and lost about 12 lbs. After changing from the lorzepam to zoloft and now to celexa, I have gained about 8 lbs. back. I lost the initiative to talk my walks. I also feel that I crave foods high in carbs (never even had cravings during pregancy). Do others of you face t...
i wanted to know if iam already methadone is it safe to take celexa? ## It is actually recommended that combining the two be avoided and an alternative medication be used in replace of the Celexa, if someone is already on Methadone. Combining the two of them increases the risk of QT prolongation, cardiac arrhythmias and a couple of other health risks. Did your doctor prescribe both? ## I'm on 60mg of methadone for the past year. I started taking celexa for the past 5 months. It works wonders for me. Always tell your Dr what you're on. My Dr knows what I'm on and he says its ok to take. I started on 20mg first now I'm on 30mg. ## I'm on 10 mg of Methadone 3 times daily ,and my Dr.just started me on 10 mg of Celexa. Is it OK to mix together? I've been on it for a w...
Is it ok to take a yellow xanax at the same time as a 1 mg celexa and a pain pill? ## Mixing Xanax and Celexa can cause side effects to be worse and this can include respiratory depression, so you do need to be careful of doing so. As to the pain medication, I cannot answer you, since you did not say exactly what it was and there are many analgesics on the market. Can you post back with the name of the pain pill or active ingredient? ## Well I'm not sure about the Xanax because so far, for me it worked. But the Celexa was the worst thing for me. I had to get off that pill asap. ## zanex, pain pills, and celexa can be deadly. My daughter bdied on oct. 28th 2009 ofnthese three drugs, it was called a pharmacutal o.d. lethal. she went to sleep and never woke up and i did not realize she ...
DOES ANYBODY HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH TAKING 40MG CELEXA ONCE DAILY VERSUS 20MG IN THE MORNING AND 20 MG AT NIGHT? THANKS! ## I moved up to 40 mg once daily about 1 year ago. It's a lot easier to remember to take it and I find it worked better for me at the higher dose, but don't miss a dose or you'll feel really wierd. ## AFTER TAKING 40MLG OF CELEXA FOR ABOUT A YR. IT FEELS LIKE ITS STOPPPD WORKIN ANY BODY ELSE? ## The number of daily doses for medications like this can really depend on the patient. Most doctors will try to go with a once daily dosing, because as Baxter mentioned, it is easier to get someone to remember to take medications once a day, rather than twice. However, splitting the doses up can work better for some medications, to give people better control, so doin...
In taking primatine tabs with my ashes inhaler et now to try to control my asthma, been having attacks this work. I was prescribed endocet for servere back pain, can i take them together? In also on celexa, klonipin, atatax, trazodone.the endocet was given to me last year as needed. Please help. ## Hello, Rose! How are you feeling? The main problem I see here is that one of the ingredients in the Primatine tablets is Ephedrine, which basically acts as a stimulant, so it's the opposite of the Oxycodone in the Endocet, which is risky. Learn more Ephedrine details here. Learn more Endocet details here. Additionally, many of the other medications you're on, such as the Klonopin and Atarax are also basically downers, so you really need to check with your doctor, before adding anything els...
I have just increased dosage of viibryd to 40mg from 20. i have ms, fibromyalgia, and epstein barr. does anyone know take savella and viibryd together or on the same day. ## WE do have a very active thread involving people that use Viibryd, here's a link to it, so you can see what other's are experiencing: As to combing it with Savella, has your doctor told you to do so? There are some possible serious interactions, so it is generally advised that they shouldn't be used together. Taking them both creates the risk of Seratonin Syndrome, Hyponatremia and several other problems. ## Thank you for your reply. In fact I have switched to celexa as vibriyd was not working for me andI i found myself uncontrollably tearful. ## very sorry to read that, but you did the right thing, we h...
I've been taking Citalopram 20 mg for two weeks now, for anxiety. It took around 7 days to kick in, but I suffered anxiety symptoms in second week and had a very mild stomach ache and bloated feeling. Has anyone had a similar experience? ## Citalopram, the active ingredient in Celexa, is an antidepressant. It can take several weeks to reach its full effect and help relieve your anxiety, if it does not work in the next 1 to 2 weeks, please make sure to contact your doctor. And yes, the things you are experiencing can be normal side effects of this medication, you may also experience symptoms that include dizziness and headache. These should all taper off as your body adjusts to the medication. You can read more on it here: Is there anything else I can help you with?
