How Does A Pain Pump Work
46 Topics FoundI just got a pain pump put in and it gets filled on June 10th. I would like to know why they wait two weeks to adjust it? Also, during the process of getting it to the right level can I take my Oxycodone in place of it? Cause they won't give me the monitor to give myself extra until it's at the right level. ## I'm very interested in the answers to your questions I'm sorry I can't help you. But I would like to know what it took to get this device installed in you n where n how it works. What issues do you have in order to get this and is your insurance covering it n how much is it coasting ## I've have an implanted pain pump for several years. You inquired to a previous post where the patient is able to adjust the pump. As far as mine, I go to my pain management d...
Is anyone taking this ziconotide ? What side effects do you have? ## Hello, Lucille! How are you? What side effects are you experiencing? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including dizziness, nausea, confusion, headache, weakness, abnormal vision, depression, fever, rigors, sinusitis and muscle spasms. ## I tried it about 5 yes ago, had intolerable side effects had to go back to Dilaudid. Now after 7 yrs delaudid not working well don't know what else to try. Maybe up the bupivacaine mix percentage?
My husband got 2 teeth broken down to gum. He was in so much pain he went diving through medicine cabinet found old darvocet from 1997 took 2 of them. I'm freaking out since I saw date on them. Will these hurt him should I take him to hospital have his stomach pumped? Help im scared! ## No, they don't turn into anything toxic, once they're expired. They just start to lose efficacy, so they don't work as well as they would have when they were new. The best thing to do is to keep a close eye on him. This medication was pulled from the market by the FDA a few years ago, because they do create a risk of cardiac dangers, though it's usually only temporary, while someone is being treated with them. So, if he starts to experience an erratic heart beat, or anything, then he...
I have a Medtronics IT opioid pain pump They are filling my pump with Dilaudid My current dosage is 0.5547 mg/day April 2017 will be a yr. since my pump was implanted. I've been taken off my oral Morphine so I can be able to to feel if the pump is working. My pain level stays at a 7 or above. I have multiple spine issues different levels mainly lower. The reason I ask this question is because I need to know if I need to look for another Dr. or continue with this one for a little longer. I'm so tired of being in pain. Thanks for your assistance.
Filed under DilaudidI have severe chronic pain in my back, hip, right buttock, thigh, knee, calf, foot. Much like Siatica but much worse as all nerves below injury site in mid to lower back are effected. For example,in my right thigh both the outer cystic nerve & the inner nerve that runs just under your carotid artery to the inner side of your knee are both equally severely painful. I have had a myriad of major surgeries, none least ng less than 7 1/2 hours & the 1st over 13 hours with 2 neurosurgeons working. It was in this surgery that I actually woke up, eyes were taped, on stomach, rear end in air, unabated, I just remember hearing the Anesthesiologist yelling oh s**" he's awake, I was screaming in unbelievable pain & trying yo pull out the tube that felt like it was chocking me, I...
Filed under SufentanilHi Dr. I'm 49 years of age and I have cronic Osteoarthritis on both knees, both wrists and hands, lower back and left shoulder. I've been taking meds for 10 years (give or take). I used to live in San Diego and after trying all kinds of medication the Dr. ended giving me morphine ER 30mg and Norco 10/325. I was taking 3 to 4 morphines daily and 6 to 8 Norcos daily. With time he pump me up to 60mg instead of 30mg of the morphine. Since I couldn't work anymore, I lost everything and had to move to L.A. county where I have relatives. I got a Dr. there but he said I was taking too much medication so he took away the Norcos and gave me the morphine but 30mg and only 3 daily. After a couple of months I told him that they weren't working too well so he gave me 60mg 3 daily. Aft...
I live in southern il & just had my 4th medtronics intra spinal pump put in. Then my doctor dropped me as a patient. I only have il Medicaid & no other doctor will accept it. My pump will go dry of the pain medicine in 90 days (by May 12th). Can anyone help me? ## Hello, Goldnlady! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having. The best suggestions I can make is to try calling Medicaid and see if they have a list of doctors in your area that accept it. Another idea would be to contact the social work department of your nearest large hospitals, they usually have a list of doctors they can refer people to in such situations. Does anyone else have any ideas? Why did he drop you?
My doctors don't seem to think there's much withdrawal if there is med in the pump. I know the change in med will cause withdrawal. Has anyone been in this situation? I've read about handling withdrawal here. I just wonder how this may work and how much the med in the pump will help. ## It really depends on what dosage they are giving you of the Dilaudid, if they make sure it is equivalent to, or a little higher than the amount in your Fentanyl patch, then you shouldn't experience any withdrawal issues. Withdrawal only occurs if a medication like this is completely stopped, without being replaced with anything else. Your doctors should calculate an equivalent dosage and set the pump up to deliver that amount, which is why they probably aren't worried about withdrawal...
What are some of the medications used during the preliminary stage prior to having the pain pump installed? I was told a series of injections are administered with different medications (and mg's) to see what works best for me. This requires a 3-4 day hospital stay. I would then be scheduled to have the pump installed permanently. Thank you I'm currently prescribed 100mg MS Contin 4X daily 60mg oxycodone for BT pain. ## I'm not quite sure what all of the options are, there are quite a few different ones that can be used. One of the most common, however, is Dilaudid, which contains Hydromorphone. Learn more Dilaudid details here. It's a very potent narcotic opiate and is even used quite frequently in self-analgesia when someone is in the hospital and in pain. I had it in ...
My husband suffered from dysentery, stomach pain, little fever. Doc prescribed cadotril capsule, rablet 20 mg, orni-o tab. But still he had stomach pain after taking food. What to do? ## HI, Jaga! I'm sorry to hear that your husband is suffering. How long has he been taking the prescriptions? Unfortunately, none of these medications is going to work instantly to relieve his pain, they will take some time to reach their full level of effectiveness in the body. Orni-O contains Ornidazole, which is used to treat protozoal infections. Learn more Orni-O details here. Rablet contains Rabeprazole, it's a proton pump inhibitor that's used to help reduce the amount of acid produced by the stomach. Learn more Rablet details here. And Cadotril contains Racecadotril, which is used to tr...
I am truly concerned about all of the people who are chronic pain sufferers who are unable to find satisfactory treatment. Several years ago, after 20 years of taking all of the usual pain meds, I stumbled across the "Spinal Chord Stimulator" and the "Morphine Pain Pump". I have had a pain pump over a year now and it has truly changed my life. Of course, like every new pain treatment, they were only used on cancer patients, etc. But they are being used now for chronic pain sufferers who have a definable, (diagnosed by reputable Dr's) untreatable pain source. The company that manufactures these products is MEDTRONICS. I promise you I do not work for them and I am not being compensated for this. I just know what it is like to suffer debilitating pain. I also understand...
I am on the dilaudid p.pump & take opana 10 -5 times daily. My nerves are shot in my back,my neck & my r.collarbone, shoulder and arm.the pain is intolerable, what is a stronger med i can ask my doctor for? ## How high is your dosage of the Dilaudid? Learn more Dilaudid details here. I wonder if that can be adjusted? What type of doctor are you seeing, is it a PCP or a pain specialist? I'm not certain of all the details on these pumps, so I really am not sure what to suggest.
I have been on 2 pumps or 40.5mg of ANDROGEL for 33 days and I feel much better physically and mentally. I was tested about 2 years ago and had a T level at around 280, which is low for a 44yr old straight male. I was also on a large dose of opiates (8 yrs.) which most likely caused my drop in T- production over the years. I played a high level of ice hockey and broke my T4-T7 vertebrae and had to take opioids due to the pain. I am happy to say that I am now 5 Months sober and have been in physical therapy and I feel like I’m 25 again. My libido is back to levels where I am in awe! Not trying to be funny but it’s true. Also, sticking to a gluten-free diet and moderate exercise will help get your blood panels close to perfect. I am 6 ft. 178lbs, and was close to 195lbs. 2 Mon...
I ws using triphasil bt when I go to the clinic they ddnt hv it they give me trigestrel, is it the same as triphasil cos nw I hv abdominal pain and I hv discharg not a smelly one bt normal my problem I never hv discharg before it started when I use trigestrel ## I also would like to now is this the same pill as my periods is gone. Will this indeed effect my pumples on my skin again. ## Hello Gabie, According to the NIH these pills are the same in their composition and their uses so yes the pill is the same. Both pills are contraceptives and if you are experiencing abdominal pain and discharge you may have a separate issue that you need to discuss with your primary care doctor. It is worth noting that these two brands are commonly interchanged as they have the same composition and that u...
I have been using Dextromethorphan 60mg Sr/ER for pain management. I was prescribed this medication, which is made in a compounding pharmacy by a doctor in California who is actively involved with the NIH(National Institute of Health. This pain management doctor uses off label medications, but is light years ahead of the traditional pain management doctor, who goes through their steps of the various epidural, nerve blocks, a multitude of other treatment that all the other pain management physicians practice, all the way up to a spinal cord stimulator or pump. I tried all of those treatments and was told no treatment remains, other than heavy narcotics, which do not work in the slightest for me. I heard about this doctor through my brother as I was in the hospital on a dialaudid drip for...

It's a very potent narcotic opiate, over 80 times stronger than Morphine, so it generally requires just a very small dose to work. Learn more Fentanyl details here. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. It is somethi...
kidney stones ## For anyone else seeking such information, the preferred medication in most hospitals for IV pain relief now is Dilaudid, which contains the active ingredient Hydromorphone. It is very potent and can be habit forming, it may also cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Learn more Dilaudid details here. Are there any questions or comments? ## I have a question I am on liquid Oxycodone cause I can't take pills because I had weight loss surgery and they don't absorb correctly so I am on liquid Oxycodone and it works good cept its not lasting the time frame that its supposed to my question is my Dr is having me do a trail pain pump and I wanna know how much difference their is between the iv side affects and then pain pu...
New pain doctor wants to put a morphine pump in place of meds been taking (80mg oxycontin times 2 a day) (30mg oxycodone times 4 a day) Any info good or bad trying to research this she decided this on my first visit. ## The pain pumps usually give most people better pain control and the medication is injected directly into your blood stream, so they also work much faster for pain relief. The FDA classifies this medication as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Ultimately the decision is up to you. You may want to set up an appointment with your doctor to discuss all of the pros and cons, so you are better informed and better equipped to weigh your options. D...
ive been on every pain medication I can think of.none of them work.my docter no longer knows what to give me.im in constant terrible pain. ## Hello, Lisa! How are you? I am so very sorry that you're in so much pain. The strongest that is currently available would be Fentanyl, it is over 80 times stronger than Morphine. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. Have you consulted a specialist? You may do better with a pain pump or spinal stimulator that are constantly working.
Hi. I am looking for a very caring PM Dr. in or around Milwaukee. He needs to be able to fill my Medtronic pain pump and help with other issues, especially RSD. Thanks in advance. ## Hello, Shirlock! How are you doing? Have you found a new doctor, yet? The best way that I can think of to find one in your situation would be to call your local hospitals and check with their social work department. They usually keep listings of doctors that are taking new patients and their various qualifications just to help people like you. :-) Are there any large hospitals near you? ## Been on different drugs for my chronic back pain. I have been self medicating myself and want professional care. I live in Milwaukee. I am 65yrs old and always had very demanding work on my back and hips. How do I find he...
