Can Eltroxin be used to treat goiters? ## Eltroxin contains the active ingredient Levothyroxine, which is used to treat hypothyroidism, when the Thyroid gland isn't producing enough of the essential hormone. The swelling of the thyroid gland that can occur is what is commonly referred to as a goiter. my wife was pregnant and had goiter, she was taking thyrax as a maintenance drug for her goiter, can anybody give a idea whether thyrax ii or had a bad side-effect on pregnant woman,,, ## Based on the Thyrax (Levothyroxine sodium) pregnancy warnings, Levothyroxine has been assigned to pregnancy category A by the FDA. Levothyroxine is a naturally occurring hormone, normally present in both maternal and fetal circulation. Levothyroxine, in replacement doses, is not expected to adversely affect the fetus. On the contrary, hypothyroidism may lead to poor pregnancy outcome. Thyroid replacement therapy should be maintained during pregnancy. I had a thyroidectomy in 1988 for a non-toxic goiter and began taking Synthroid and then levothyroxine. In 2018 I had another thyroidectomy because the thyroid gland grew back. I'm now taking 1.50 mcg of the medication. I recently checked the monograph and discovered that this medication can cause osteoporosis. I was diagnosed with this in May of 2018 during a bone scan preceding the thyroid surgery. Has anyone else had a diagnosis of osteoporosis while taking levothyroxine? I'm pretty surprised that I would have this ailment even though I'm 75. I've never been a thin woman which seems to be the person who most often gets osteoporosis. ## No, but I feel so weak my bones, so much pain namb . :( I feel levothyroxine it’s the trigger of all my symptoms. I have been taking euthyrox 100 for more than 8 yrs to shrink my goiter, but, I have noticed that my goiter;s size is increasing. Is there other medicine to shrink my goiter faster? Ay responses will highly be appreciated. Thanks! ## Euthyrox contains the active ingredient Levothyroxine, a thyroid hormone. There are several medications on the market used to treat Thyroid issues and goiter, however, you will need a prescription for all of them and can only find out if they are right for you to try by discussing it with your doctor. In most cases, after long-term use, our body adjusts to a certain dosage of a medication and it is no longer as effective. After 8 years at this dosage, this may be what you are experiencing and you may require a dosage adjustment. Have you spoken to your doct...

I had my thyroid and one parathyroid removed in December 2014 due to a multinodular goiter. It was diagnosed by a cardiologist as I had hyperthyroidism with a constant resting heart rate of over 90 bpm, and I have remained on it after surgery, being put on 75mg of levothyroxine. The side effects have been getting so bad that I went off Diltiazem a few days ago, and after the second day, my energy level and overall well-being started to come back. So, I know I need the dosage adjusted downward. However, I can't adjust it until I see the doctor. Is it safe to stop taking Diltiazem abruptly? ## Hello, Kate! How are you? You shouldn't stop such a medication abruptly, as the FDA reports that it may cause a rebound effect, which could include elevated heart rate and blood pressure and...

I have been on the same dose of synthroid for the last 14 years 200mcg. I previously had Graves many years ago, had radiation to stop the goiter hence the high dose of the medication. I am levels are checked routinely and the last 2 tests show my thyroids is alittle overactive so my dose was lowered. I had a total hysterectomy 2 years ago. What could have caused the change? ## It might just be due to the changes that have occurred in your body as time has passed. Our bodies do change regularly and sometimes a medication has to be changed, or the dosage adjusted. It's perfectly normal and actually quite amazing that you were doing so well with the same dose for that many years. Learn more Synthroid details here. Went to the ER twice in one night 10 days ago for an all of a sudden feeling of flushing from head to toe and just generally feeling weird. First visit resulted in a TSH of 18.5. I was told I was experiencing hypothyroidism. I've been on levothyroxine for approximately 8+ years. Had my thyroid removed for a goiter that turned out to be thyroid cancer about 9 years ago. Dose of levothyroxine has been adjusted over the years, but I've never experienced anything like I was feeling that night. Second visit to ER, the doctor increased my levothyroxine to 150mcg and gave me a prescription for xanax. I have not been able to sleep since that night. Severe, severe insomnia. This morning was my 9th day on the increased dose if levothyroxine. I'm just starting to feel like myself to a ...

Please identify small white round pill marked TC on one side and C on the other. Thank you ## Hello, I believe I have identified your pill as Levothyroxine sodium (100 mcg). From what I can gather, this specific pill is manufactured in the UK... Levothyroxine is typically used to treat hypothyroidism. It may also be used to treat goiter via its ability to lower thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), a hormone that is considered goiter-inducing. Adverse effects: Dosing must be carefully controlled to achieve TSH levels within the normal reference range. Long-term suppression of TSH values below normal values will frequently cause cardiac side-effects and contribute to decreases in bone mineral density (high TSH levels are also well known to contribute to osteoporosis). Patients prescribed to...
