100+ Topics FoundI have started taking gabapentin 100mg twice a day. When is the best time to take it. Do the side effects go away or do you just have to put up with them? ## Hi sarah, Dosing schedules for Gabapentin are largely dependent upon your reasons for taking it. (i.e. - the usual adult dose for Epilepsy is as follows): Initial dose: 300 mg orally on day one, 300 mg orally twice a day on day two, then 300 mg orally 3 times a day on day three. Maintenance dose: 900 to 1800 mg orally in 3 divided doses. If necessary, the dose may be increased using 300 mg or 400 mg capsules three times a day up to 1800 mg/day. Dosages up to 2400 mg/day have been well tolerated in long-term clinical studies. Doses of 3600 mg/day have also been administered to a small number of patients for a relatively short durati...
Hey, So my partner started taking gabapentin 3x300mg 3 times a day for rheumatoid arthritis in his feet he's only 29. He recognized this drug as something his friends use to take recreationally and we all know it effects us all differently. I'm bipolar get a little bored and curious not to mention noticed a change in his mood just in general a happier person so I thought I'd start taking them too just for the effect. I soon became addicted to the feeling of not really caring almost superior, I felt I could talk my way out of any situation and just loved life. Of course there's always a time you run out and with us both taking them he soon did. With the pain of arthritis coming and going there was always plenty for me. I soon realized just how addicted I was and was the f...

I'm also taking 10/325 norco and 20 mg of prednisone ## Hello, Jes! How are you? I think you may be misunderstanding, this isn't actually an analgesic. Gabapentin is an anticonvulsant that has been found to help with certain types of nerve pain, due to the way it acts on brain chemicals. So, it's not going to work in just 2 days, it will take about a month, before you know whether or not it is going to help you at the current ...

Today is day 7 of 1 pill daily, only 100mg. Second attempt trying this drug, don't like it. Can I simply stop? ## Hello, Suzi! How are you? What types of problems are you having with it? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings and weight changes. After 7 days on such a low dose, you can most likely just stop it, but it would be best to check with your doctor, because stopping abruptly could create the risk of seizures. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you for your reply; i can do it over a few days. To answer your question, just feel kinda "strange" at times, you know? Then again, hate to give up too early. All the negative reviews are scary to me.

I'd like to discuss with someone about the proper dosage of this medication. Can anyone help? ## There is really no set dosage for this, though you do need to start at a low dosage and gradually add more until you find the amount that works effectively for you. Most doctors will start with 100mgs taken 2 to 3 times a day, then go up to 300 and continue adding until they find what works for each patient. It would take a tremendous amount to OD on this, which is why so many doctors like to use it, they can take the dosage very high, without danger and it has very few side effects. Your best bet then, is to take your doctors advice on what you should be taking and how often. ## I just started gabapentin. My doctor told me to take 300 mg before bedtime for the first week and then move u...

can i take 4,300mg gabapentin at one time instead of 4 times a day ## No, it should be taken at the dosing intervals that your doctor insructed. The reason this is done is to maintain a constant level of the medication in your body throughout the day. That does not happen, if you take a large dose at once and then nothing else for the rest of the day. Learn more Gabapentin details here. Is there anything else I can help you with?
I've been taking one gabapentin 300 mg three times per day starting six days ago for severe spinal stenosis. It's been a miracle drug for me in terms of pain relief and makes oxycodone seem like a placebo. Unfortunately, starting two days ago I started to experience pronounced swelling in my legs and feet. I'm already taking 25 mg of hydrochlorothiazide for high blood pressure and I thought that would prevent any swelling but it hasn't. If I can deal with the swelling and being uncomfortable from it do I still have to go off the gabapentin? Are there any medical reasons I can't accept the swelling in order to have the benefits of the gabapentin? After the first two days on gabapentin I went from 10 mg of oxycodone every 4 hours to 5 mg twice a day, sometimes just onc...
Recently was prescribed Gabapentin 300 mg three times a day I took one pill and ended up sleeping and woke with red face n swollen red lips is this normal ? Plus took me about 24 hours to really feel normal again ? ## No, that is definitely not normal. You need to inform your doctor and try a different medication, the swelling indicates that you may be allergic to this one. As listed by the FDA, such allergic reactions typically get worse with repeated exposure, so please do not take any more of this medication. Its typical side effects are listed as possibly including dizziness, drowsiness, headache, dry mouth and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?
I'm taking 300 mg of gabapentin three times a day and noticed a rapid weight gain. I think it's mostly water retention and I was wondering if taking one Lasix a day would help me loose the weigh and keep it off and not cause any other catastrophe. ## Hello, Margareta! How are you? With the possible risks associated with such rapid fluid retention, it would be best to have it checked out, rather than trying to treat it yourself. It does have the potential to lead to congestive heart failure. How long have you been taking the Gabapentin? It can also just cause regular weight gain and not just fluid gain. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness and mood swings. ## The drug made me pile on the weight and my tummy hammed it on. I was frighted to eat. I would try and come off...

I was taking 100mg twice a day. My Dr. upped it to 100mg three times a day. I've been taking this for four weeks now. My eyes have been burning for over three weeks and I've had the feelings of my skin crawling for the past two weeks. Today I've been having trouble breathing, my chest tightening, and burning sensations in my face, eyes, hands, feet, and throat. Within 30 minutes time I've had round, red lesions popping out on my face, head, arms, legs, feet, and hands ## Hello, Tamisena! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problems that you're having. I think you need to see your doctor, or go to an urgent care or ER and have this checked out. That sounds like you may be having some type of allergic reaction and the trouble breathing is especially concerning, b...
I'm taking 1800mgs 4 times a day and there's really no high but it keeps me off the booze. I'm tapering down 200mgs a day so in a bit it will all work out. ## Hello, Delance! How are you? No, there wouldn't be a high from this. Though many people misunderstand because it can help with some types of pain, it is not an actual analgesic. It is an anticonvulsant. Tapering down by that much a day could cause some withdrawal and rebound symptoms, such as dizziness, drowsiness, diarrhea, nausea, pain and headaches, so please be careful. Do you have any questions or concerns? ## Valentin is a drug for many disorders you will not feel high on it.
Hi, I've been on Gabapentin about two years, but recently the Dr. increased the dose to 300 mg three times a day...for anxiety. I have been only trying to take it every other day instead. On the off days, I feel crummy. But if i took it daily, then the eventual withdrawal would be horrendous from what I've read. Besides that, I'd build up a tolerance to it pretty quickly and wouldn't be as effective in a short amount of time. Does anyone else take it every other day instead of daily? ## Gabapentin has a short half life of 5 to 7 hours; that’s why it’s typically prescribed 3 times a day and sometimes 4 times a day. Skipping dosages and taking it every other day can cause interdosage withdrawals when you're late on your dosage or skip a day. Gabapentin is a...
For the past 2 years I have been using a cpac machine to sleep but lately I will wake up 5 or more times a night. My doctor prescribe medication for RLS, but it did not work, now he has prescribed Gabapentin 300 mg to help me sleep. What I have been reading about the medication doesn't include anything about taking it for sleeping. ## I was just given a prescription for gabapentin 300mg 90 minutes before bedtime. Can increase 300mg every night to a max of 1200. This increase is weekly. I have symptoms of restless leg syndrome but my problem is much more than RLS. I have heavy legs and problems with balance. I was on Requip with some help to the symptoms but developed compulsive gambling problem. Is anyone else in a similar situation or have any advice for me as to what to expect. I ...
For four years, I've taken 100mg of Gabapentin (one capsule) along with 0.50mg of Ropinirole (two pills) at night only for Restless Leg Syndrome. I am 76 years old. There were times when I felt that I really could, maybe even should have increased, as directed but I just hate taking any kind of medicines and finally, it felt more ok enough to not increase. So, I did not. Now, I would like to get off of all of it but since the Gabapentin is one capsule, how I can taper off from that one? I can go down slowly on the Ropinirole by taking only one tablet each night as each one is .25mg but I do not know how I can cut the Gabapentin capsule with the powder medicine inside in half. Any suggestions or anyone else have a similar question? ## In many cases, doctor's will instruct the pat...
