I am out of the country where I have health insurance and am reluctant to spend $1000. deductible on my travel insurance policy to see a doctor. Should I keep taking the medication and hope for the best? ## You haven't seen doctor for it, at all yet? If it is due to something such as a blocked saliva gland, or a cyst, the antibiotic may not really help much. Is it sore to the touch? Are there any times that it appears to get worse, such as when you eat? Have you had any dental problems that you're aware of? ## Hi Verwon: To answer your questions, no I haven't seen a doctor yet. I did think about the possibility of a ...

Can't this be use for swollen gland under my jaw due to sinus drainage? ## it will help with the pain but not so much for swelling. try alleve or motrin for swelling.and an ice pack ## @Tissue, RE (post #1): Acetaminophen is an anti-inflammatory drug, so I don't see how it wouldn't help with the swelling. If it didn't, that would certainly contradict its drug classification, no? Hydrocodone on the other hand will probably only help with the pain aspect. However if you're (original poster) on the lookout for other anti-inflammatory agents to help ease a swollen lymph node, I would encourage things like herbal tea, ginger, raw coconut oil, and raw honey, along with Turmeric. Certain Essential oils may also prove to be beneficial depending on which one's you work wi...

I'm having problems with painful gums and sinus swelling, pressure and pain. Probable TMJ. Before I try to see a dentist (I have no dental ins), which antibiotic should I ask my doctor to prescribe to clear up the infection? I know she will know, but I like to know before I ask. Thank you for any advice. ## Hello, Mimi! How are you? TMJ is not due to an infection and antibiotics will not treat it. TMJ is due to a problem in the jaw joint that causes pain and inflammation and it needs to be treated totally differently to reduce the inflammation and prevent the problem from recurring and worsening. Thus, you need to consult your dentist for proper treatment, if it is TMJ. An antibiotic will only treat a bacterial infection and there isn't any particular one that would be better th...

I have a swollen jaw that the pain has moved into my neck. will the hydrocodon-acetaminophn 10-325 help relieve the pain and swelling. ## Hello, Steve! How are you? It may help with the pain, since it is classified by the FDA as a narcotic analgesic, but it will not help with the swelling, or any possible infection that has caused this issue, that will require other medications, as deemed appropriate by your doctor, or dentist. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. I strongly urge you to consult your doctor, or dentist, as infections that are spreading could become dangerous. Has there been any change?

pain medication ## Oral Ketorolac (Toradol) is used to relieve pain and reduce inflammation (swelling). It is used for a short time to treat headache, dental pain, sports-related injuries, and other painful conditions. Ketorolac is used to relieve moderately severe pain, usually pain that occurs after an operation or other painful procedure. It belongs to the group of medicines called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Ketorolac is not a narcotic and is not habit-forming. It will not cause physical or mental dependence, as narcotics can. However, ketorolac is sometimes used together with a narcotic to provide better pain relief than either medicine used alone. ## I was in Mexico having pain in my upper right gum area that went up into my jaw. 3 months before, I had 1 root ca...

I had puss leaking from the gums but the dentist did not drain it. He just extracted my bottom row wisdom tooth and gave me Amoxicillin 500 MG 4x. The tooth extraction was about $541, does that sound to high for one tooth? I used all the drug and it seemed to help but I relapsed. My inner cheeks are swollen and it seems to be slightly swollen along my jawline. I had that before taking any prescription so it's not an allergic reaction. Also around my mouth feels a little swollen. What should I do next? The second time I went to the Dentist he didn't prescribe me anything and said the swelling was okay. He never mentioned my inner cheek swelling even though you can't miss it. Should I try another dose of Amoxicillin or something else or maybe 2 antibiotics? I'm on the verg...

Can sulfameth trimetoprim 800/160 be used to treat a tooth infection ? ## What has our dentist advised you to use? Have they confirmed the presence of an infection? Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim is an antibiotic, but it is not usually the first choice for dental infections, since many of them respond better to other alternatives, such as Penicillin and Amoxicillin. ## No Dentist confirmation. Pretty sure of infection due to the pain & slight swelling of lower jaw near wisdom tooth.
