For Jaw Swelling

One week ago I experienced pain & swelling below my right jaw & into my neck. I started on Amoxicillan, 500 mg. twice a day. I am still having problems. I am out of the country where I have health insurance and am reluctant to spend $1000. deductible on my travel insurance policy to see a doctor. Should I keep taking the medication and hope for the best? ## You haven't seen doctor for it, at all yet? If it is due to something such as a blocked saliva gland, or a cyst, the antibiotic may not really help much. Is it sore to the touch? I am taking clindamycin 300 milligram and my jaw is excruciating pain can I up the dosage just started it at 3 o'clock because the swelling and pain relieving I don't care I just want this pain to subside and the swelling to go down is it okay if I up my dosage ## Some antibiotics the doctors say double up on the first 2 or 3 doses but Not clindamycin. went to doctor thinking i have ear infection. i was told it was not a ear infection it has to do the bone structure teeth is not even with bottom teeth which cause pain. so she prescribe Meloxicam for me ## Hello, Nita! Can't this be use for swollen gland under my jaw due to sinus drainage? ## it will help with the pain but not so much for swelling. try alleve or motrin for swelling.and an ice pack ## @Tissue, RE (post #1): Acetaminophen is an anti-inflammatory drug, so I don't see how it wouldn't help with the swelling. If it didn't, that would certainly contradict its drug classification, no? Hydrocodone on the other hand will probably only help with the pain aspect. However if you're (original poster) on the lookout for other anti-inflammatory agents to help ease a swollen lymph node, I would encourage things like herbal tea, ginger, raw coconut oil, and raw honey, along with Turmeric. I've taken 30 amoxicillin and an entire z pack for my tooth abscess bit still having ALOT of pain, some swelling and still cannot open my jaw far enough for my dentist to extract the tooth, it's been 2 weeks now and though some relief it's still pretty bad! I began taking this medication on Sunday by Monday my jaw line and neck were swollen soo bad.. Went back to ER because I became worried he said that the medicine was fine.. It is now day 4 and I am still so swollen on my jaw tooth still tender and my throat is so sore from the swelling and itching.. Can sulfameth trimetoprim 800/160 be used to treat a tooth infection ? ## What has our dentist advised you to use? Have they confirmed the presence of an infection? Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim is an antibiotic, but it is not usually the first choice for dental infections, since many of them respond better to other alternatives, such as Penicillin and Amoxicillin. ## No Dentist confirmation.
