From what I can gather this pill contains (40 mg) of the active ingredient Esomeprazole. Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (brand name Nexium) which reduces acid secretion through inhibition of the H+ / K+ ATPase in gastric parietal cells. By inhibiting the functioning of this transporter, the drug prevents formation of gastric acid. Is Pantoprazole sod dr 40 mg the same drug as Nexium 40 mg? My husband was given Nexium samples by the doctor but was prescribed the Pantoprazole. Thank you ## Hi Barb, From what I could gather, they appear to be completely different drugs that are used for similar purposes. My guess is that the doctor wanted him to sample the Nexium to see if he responded better to one or the other. Nexium contains the active ingredient Esomeprazole & Pantoprazole happens to be the active ingredient in and of itself; but both are classified as proton pump inhibitors. After having back and chest pain symptoms my cardiologist recommend that I take Nexpro RD 40 mg and once I started on Nexpro I got relief. After being on Nexpro RD for 14 months I ended up having to take omeprazole instead of nexpro for about the last 3-4 weeks because I ran out of nexpro and thought it would not hurt much...but seems like my back and chest pain symptoms are back with a vengence. My current doctor switched me to Dexilant 60 mg and after being on Dexilant for the last 2 weeks do not see much relief. That means that your insurance will only cover 1 capsule a day, though your doctor wants you to take 2 a day, which means if you do so, you'll have to pay for the rest out of pocket. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, headache, flatulence, and stomach pain. Is there anything else I can help with?

I do believe I may have taken 2 of all my medications tonight by accident: Atenolol 50mg, Losartan 25 mg, Eszopiclone 3mg, Esomeprazole 40mg. Will I be alright? ## The main concern here is the Ezopiclone, since taking a double dose could result in excessive sedation and depression of the cental nervous system, according to FDA reports.
