Eliquis Side Effects
100+ Topics FoundI have tingling in my face and arms, a burning sensation on the bottom of my feet, no energy, a bloated feeling in my stomach area. Has anyone experienced any of the above using eliquis? ## Since this is still relatively new to the market in the U.S., there isn't a lot of side effect information available, yet. What I'd suggest is contacting your doctor to see if they know more, they'd be the best person to help you. Learn more Eliquis details here.
I am a 76 year old man with afib. My EP suggested Eliquis and gave me a 30 day free sample. I have used it and am on my first 90 day refill. After reading all of the comments on this web site I was reluctant to try Eliquis. As of now I have had no side effects. I am about 5' 10" and weigh 215. I spend 20 minutes on the treadmill and 30 minutes in an exercise routine daily. If I notice any adverse side effects as time goes by I will repost on this site. ## Hello, Newport Jim! How are you? Thank you for the helpful post! Not everyone has problems taking Eliquis, it's just that those that day are usually the ones hunting up a site like this to discuss the problems. The millions of people that take any given medication, without a problem, are rarely online discussing their posit...
I have been taking Apixaban for PE's for nearly 2 years now thinking that it was great as Warfarin was unreliable and had to have too many blood tests. I am 56 and have now put on a lot of weight but didn't realize that this drug can cause this. My lifestyle hasn't changed very much so I couldn't understand why I was putting on weight. Also at night when sleeping my arm on the opposite side of how I'm sleeping also goes numb and I wonder if this can have anything to do with the drug too, as well as feeling really tired all the time. Is there an alternative as I really am feeling depressed about my weight? ## I am on Apixaban and I am having a very dry mouth and have to drink water the whole night. I talked to my doctor and he says it's because of the medicine and...
I have been taking Eliquis for 1 1/2 Months and I think I am allergic to it. Everything was okay until this week. My stomach looks like I have been sunburned and is swollen I also have gained weight, and losing more memory. My urine is also real dark. this is just not normal. Do I need to go back to Warfin? Do you think Eliquis is working for me? ## Hi Lucille, Sorry to hear about your situation. If you've developed a rash and inflammation, I agree with you that those are probable signs of an allergic reaction. However, according to medlineplus.gov, "red, brown, or pink urine" listed as a potentially serious side effect as well as a possible overdose symptom that should be brought to your doctor's attention immediately. On the other hand, dark urine could also be attribu...
My husband was on Eliquis for over two years. I watched him go from a outgoing person to someone who just wanted to sit and watch TV. One Thursday night he couldn't get up and could not move his right leg. By the time I called 911 and he reached the hospital, he was paralyzed on his right side. His mouth was drouping and he could not speak. He suffered an intercranial hemorrhage which could not be reversed. Why would the FDA approve a medicine which there is no way to reverse the bleed once it starts. He passed away that Sunday. I was in shock. It has been almost a year since his death. I told the Dr. I thought Eliquis killed him and his replay was, well lets put it this way, it helps more people than it kills . Not what I wanted to hear. ## I am very sorry about what happened. My d...
Since switching from xarelto to eliquis two years ago, I have been experiencing extreme bouts of sluggishness, itching and hives. Is that normal? ## I was switched to Eliquis low twice daily dose after 9 months on 20mg once daily Xarelto as i wanted to come off blood thinners altogether but specialist felt i was candidate for repeat blood clots due to age and other health factors. Dreadful experience - only on Eliquis 3 days before side effects of intense pins and needles all over body, pounding head, made me stop them. Back to Xarelto at specialist's insistence. Lesser side effects on Xarelto but still unhappy with feelings of weakness in legs, muddled thinking, loss of balance. Finally stopped Xarelto last month (my choice, not specialist's) and have slowly regained balance an...
After an ablation I had a monitor on for 30 days. The doctor said I had Afib and put me on 100 mg of flecainide twice a day plus 5 mg of eliquis twice a day. I seem to be having constipation problems. Plus blood in rectal area which could be from something else as I have had that problem before. ## Hi Nancy, Sorry to hear about your situation. From what I could gather, "red or black, tarry stools" are listed as a side effect of Eliquis (Apixaban) on medlineplus.gov. "Black, tarry stools" + "constipation" + "blood in the urine or stools" are all listed as side effects of Flecainide on nih.gov. It sounds to me like either medication could potentially be the culprit, but I would encourage you to contact your doctor about this just to be on the safe side. Hop...
I have taken elequis for over 2 years now. I have Afib. This month my Dr added another drug - a ppi to my prescription to combat any future stomach problems caused by elequis! I take beta blockers too! I have so many side effects from elequis - tiredness, aching joints - knees, toes and shoulder joints. Difficulty sleeping due to shoulder and knee pain. How do I get off this drug - or at least reduce it from 5mg x 2 a day to 2.5 mg. x 2 a day? I would really prefer to just take aspirin but don’t know if it is effective? ## The beta blockers can cause similar side effects, so it's difficult to determine which one might be causing your symptoms. Side effects to the ppi may include nausea, stomach pain, headache, and bloating. Ref: Harvard Health PPI Medications As to the Eliquis...
Experienced dizzyness, headache, unusual weakness with initial start of Eliquis 5mg tab. Will be put on 2.5mg strength. Can my supply of 5mg Eliquis be split and used up as 2.5mg? hpask ## Hello, hpask! How are you? Yes, that should be safe to do, since it is not time released, but you may want to double check with your pharmacist to be certain. This medication may cause you to bruise more easily, as well as increase your risk of bleeding. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Hi everyone; Thank you for any replies, I have been on cartia for some time now as have a/fib, had a TIA a couple of weeks ago now Dr`s want me to take Elequis 5mg twice a day. Must admit a bit scared about it and its side effects.. also how much time I need to be off cartia before taking new drug. Thanks , J...
DVT's in calf, had one 10 yrs ago, just found a other 2 or 3(had Charley horse that wouldn't go away, so went to ER). Had Lovenox shots in hospital, sent home with Eliquis starter pack ..had headache & dizziness 1st day, now diminished, but have breast sensitivity, indigestion & a little itchiness. Follow up with doc scheduled in a week. Have not seen breast sensitivity or indigestion (belching) listed as a side effect, wondering if anyone else having same effects. Not happy about all the side effects I have read people are experiencing....mental spaciness & confusion concern me, i have felt a bit spacey....Did lovenox/warfarin route 10 yrs ago, was happy to hear Eliquis doesn't require weekly blood draws, but now wondering if lovenox/warfarin would have been bet...
Can I take Septra while on Eliquis? I have been on Eliquis for six months. I take 2.5 mg Eliquis twice a day. I have the flu bug now & my doctor put me on Septra. Is there a problem taking this antibiotic while taking Eliquis? ## I didn't find any problems or interactions listed, but Septra is an antibiotic that is used to treat, or prevent bacterial infections. It will not do anything to treat the flu, since it is caused by a virus. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, diarrhea, non-allergic skin rash, and headache. Are you feeling any better?
My 91 year old Mom was switched to Eliquis and has been totally exhausted and suffering from confusion and memory loss. Anyone else having the confusion/memory loss issue? ## Hello, Freddie! How is your mom doing? Yes, those are known side effects of taking Eliquis, along with bruising, fainting and headache. Side effects should start to taper off in severity after about 4 weeks, as her body adjusts to the medication. But if they don't, or if they worsen, her doctor should be consulted. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Yes, my 88 year old husband has been on Eliquis since July and he is experiencing major confusion, and I believe even had a night terror. When I carefully skip a dose he regains his usual mental state back. It's very frustrating as the doctors aren't...
My wife has blood clots and we cant afford this medicine its really to high and I need some samples please please . ## Hello, Reggie! How is your wife doing? If you're low-income and uninsured, there is an assistance program that she can apply for, you can call them for an application and more information as 800-736-0003. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Alternatively, she could speak to her doctor about trying a medication, such as Coumadin that is available as a generic. Is there anything else I can help with? ## You can obtain a co-pay card from Bristol Myers for Eliquist and pay no more than a $10.00 co-pay by calling 1-855-354-7847. I just received one. ## t...
I only take 2.5 mg of eliquis. I was supposed to take it 2x a day but with the side effects I'm not going to. It's affecting my stomach, weight, and cough. Bad ## Hello, Carol! How are you? Those can be normal side effects of it, as reported by the FDA. You may also experience headache, dizziness, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. However, if you're afraid of the side effects and don't want to take it as prescribed, you should talk to your doctor, they may be able to prescribe an alternative medication. Is there anything else I can help with?
I take 2 ELIQUIS tablets a day. One @ breakfast @ one @ 8 p.m. I would like to know if I can take Instaflex Advanced without any problems. ## Hello, Sally! How are you? You should check with your doctor, before taking it. It may not be safe for you to do so, since one of the ingredients in this supplement is Resveratrol, which may also cause blood thinning. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Eliquis as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Is there anything else I can help with?
I got a DVT blood clot resulting from a severe ankle injury 7almost months ago. I had a procedure to clear up the problem. Also, I was on eliquis for six months. Two and a half weeks ago I got an ultrasound and my doctor said it was cleared up and time to get off the eliquis. He told me to take 325mg of asprin in the morning for the next six months witch I have been doing. The pain I had in the back of my knee and in my quadricept muscle is back with a vengeance. Is this normal? ## It is hard to say, it could be rebound effects from stopping the Eliquis, according to NIH studies, but there is also a chance you may have developed another clot. How are you doing, now? Has there been any change? What type of procedure was done? Are you on any other medications?
I took Eliquis for 6 days, during those six days the side effects were unbearable to the point I thought I surely would die....I talked to my Dr. told her I was going off the medication she wanted me to keep on it or switch to Zeroltto..I could not bare the thought of another blood thinning medication, I went off, she said I could stop all at once. It has been 5 days since I went off Eliquis, I am fatigued from the moment I put my feet on the floor and start moving, just walking from the house to the car tires me out to the point where all my muscles burn and hurt and I am scared I won't make to the car, sitting and lying down I am ok.....how long will this go on, I have not been to work since being on Eliquis to this day, it has been 11 days...I need to function normally, I live al...
I am 67 and have afib. I am put on eliquis, but ever since I have been on eliquis I am having very bad lower back, hip, shoulder, ankle etc. pain!! I will be having an ablation in the very near future. When my heart returns to normal I will stop eliquis. I will be taking Tattokinase. It is a natural enzyme that gets the job done without the side effects. Please reserch about the benefits of nattokinase on the internet and get educated about it; it would take me too long to explain things about it here. And tell your doctor about it, demand that he would look into getting informed about it instead of pushing dangerous pharmaceuticals on you!! Nattokinase is a very effective blood thinner, it is natural with NO side effects. Since no body makes big money from it, it is discouraged by big ...
I'm a healthy 74 year old male who works out with weights heavily in April developed an asymptomatic tachycardia with a classical a fib beat took eliquis for 4_weeks no problems then cardioversion immediately back to normal sinus rhythm and 4_weeks more on eliquis with very slight hemorroidal bleeding minimal. Was the put back on baby aspirin back on schedule and ad of 8 /21_feel great Stephen ## I am so very glad that it worked so well for you, that's awesome! Did you experience any other side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, or easy bruising? Did you have to make any changes to your workout routine?
I've just started taking Eliquis, 5mg x 2 day for nonvalvular Afib. I'm experiencing dizziness & lightheadness. I have suffered from vertigo for years from heading loss & age (70 yrs old). I guess my question is will the dizziness go away as my body adjusts to this new medication? ## I had the same problem. Felt like I was going to pass out. Two different effects at the same time. I was on a heart monitor at the time. The drug caused tachycardia, it was recorded. The second effect is the lightheadedness. Felt like I had a couple shots of whiskey. I do not drink. Have been off Eliquis for two weeks. The tachycardia has gone away. The lightheadedness has reduced but is still present. Tough drug to live with. I am back on aspirin. 81 mg twice per week. ## Interestingly enou...
