Can I take Septra while on Eliquis? I have been on Eliquis for six months. I take 2.5 mg Eliquis twice a day. I have the flu bug now & my doctor put me on Septra. Is there a problem taking this antibiotic while taking Eliquis? ## I didn't find any problems or interactions listed, but Septra is an antibiotic that is used to treat, or prevent bacterial infections. It will not do anything to treat the flu, since it is caused by a virus. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, diarrhea, non-allergic skin rash, and headache. Are you feeling any better?

After knee replacement I had one blood clot and was prescribed Warfarin. No problems except nuisance of regular INR. Changed to Eliquis 2.5 mg twice daily. After a week or so I noticed excessive bleeding from small scratches, blood spots on handkerchief, dark brown urine and then PANIC -JET BLACK faeces. Dr said stop eliquis! I stopped and after 3 weeks, no more bleeding. Any ideas on whether I need this stuff? I am 86 and otherwise pretty healthy. I have had 2 short episodes of AF in my lifetime and Eliquis prescribed for this to prevent stroke, but I think E could cause a stroke with a bleed in the brain ## It is always best to follow your doctor's instructions and not everyone needs to take such medications for the rest of their lives, according to NIH reports. Many times they ar...

I am on Eliquis as a treatment for a DVT in my right leg I incurred 10 days ago. I took 2 pills twice a day as prescribed for 7 days and have taken 1 pill twice a day (5 mg) for 2 days but am feeling woozy and somewhat dizzy about 2 hours after taking the recommended dosage. Can I reduce the dosage to 1 5mg pill a day instead of 2 pills a day? The swelling and pain in my leg has decreased considerably. I'm wearing a leg calf stocking which helps. Mike B (age 67, 200 lbs) ## You should take the dosage that your doctor has instructed you to take, unless they advise otherwise. This medication can cause dizziness as a side effect, according to the FDA, you may also experience nausea, headache, and easy bruising. They are typically transient and should go away, once your body gets used t...

I've just started taking Eliquis, 5mg x 2 day for nonvalvular Afib. I'm experiencing dizziness & lightheadness. I have suffered from vertigo for years from heading loss & age (70 yrs old). I guess my question is will the dizziness go away as my body adjusts to this new medication? ## I had the same problem. Felt like I was going to pass out. Two different effects at the same time. I was on a heart monitor at the time. The drug caused tachycardia, it was recorded. The second effect is the lightheadedness. Felt like I had a couple shots of whiskey. I do not drink. Have been off Eliquis for two weeks. The tachycardia has gone away. The lightheadedness has reduced but is still present. Tough drug to live with. I am back on aspirin. 81 mg twice per week. ## Interestingly enou...

My VA PA has changed my prescription for DVT from Xarelto 20mg to Eliquis 5 mg because of my age (78)...The Eliquis calls for 1 tablet twice daily...I am having joint pain at night...can I just take a baby aspirin as a blood thinner and get a blood test once a month..? I do not want to take these potent blood thinners for the rest of my life considering the side effects... ## Hello, Larry! How are you? For the best results you should take the medication your doctor has prescribed. The joint pain can be a normal side effect of it, according to the FDA, you may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, and easy bruising. Are you on any other medications? ## I got them to move me from Eliquis to Xarelto and did somewhat better. I am now on a much lower dose as my provoked blood clot is ...

I have been on Eliquis for 4 months now for afib. Have only had one episode of Afib. have a cardiologist that doesn't listen. He's just a drug pusher and wants to do ablations. So I don't bother with him. He just turned me back over to my nurse practitioner anyway. I am wasting away on this eliquis 2.5 mg twice a day. Can't gain weight. Most people gain. Not me. Suffering all over body pain. Memory problems. Nausea. Hair falling out. Weak. No motivation. Think it's messing with my blood pressure. Sometimes sweating and fever. I looked up side effect. Drs won't even listen about side effects. Just want to push more pills. I don't sleep well. Hardly slept last night. This stuff can also affect the liver since most of it goes through the liver. I want to hear fr...

I was taken off of Xarelto and put on Eliquis 2.5mg twice daily. Everything seemed fine. Then my cardiologist increased the dose to 5 mg twice daily because she said I should be on a “regular” dose. Within a day or two, I started with shortness of breath upon the least exertion. Also, I became constiipated. I continued until I became so debilitated that I decided to lower back to the 2.5 dose. By this time, the shortness of breath had a life of its own. Anyone else have this reaction to Eliquis? ## Hi Marilynn, Sorry to hear about your reaction to the medication. Medlineplus.gov lists the following symptoms as side effects of Eliquis (Apixaban): -trouble breathing -wheezing -feeling dizzy or faint Source: medlineplus.gov/druginfo/meds/a613032.html They go on to note that if ...

I am a soon to be 71 year-old female with paroxysmal A-Fib--started 5 years ago. I take Eliquis 5 mg/twice daily. I generally am not in A-Fib, but for some dental and surgeries have needed to discontinue Eliquis 2 to 3 days prior. I have researched everywhere and spoke to my cardiologist and PCP as well asking about withdrawal symptoms. As even missing one dose, I get flushed, shaky, and increased heart rate until I go back on the drug. Even asked pharmacist but they look at all the info on the warnings label. I also take 240MG Cartia XL and 7.5 MG Norvasc and OTC omeprazole and Vitamin D and that's all. Anyone experience this? ## Hello, Mary! How are you doing? It is normal to experience some types of mild withdrawal effects if you abruptly stop taking anything that you've been...

In September 2015 and in June 2016 I developed a blot clot in a superficial vein in my right quadricep. Both resolved themselves. Because I was scheduled to fly my vascular surgeon sent me to a benign hematologist who proposed I take 2.5 mg of the drug two hours before a flight and a second dose twelve hours after the first. I followed the doctor's directions and was fine. I recently consulted once more with the doctor as I am scheduled to travel to Asia (a 15 hour flight) and will have several inter-city flights before returning back home. Since I will be away for two weeks and have three inter-city flights (one approximately every three days) the doctor suggested I take 2.5 mg twice a day for the duration of the trip. I'm a bit nervous about going on the drug for two weeks as ...

I may have accidently taken a double dose of eliquis early this morning. I am suppose to take one 5 mg twice a day. Usually at nine and nine. I think I could have taken two pills in am. Should I leave off my night pill even if I'm not sure. ## I accidentally took an extra lisinipril 40 MLB after already taking it this morning with amlodipine will I be ok ## I accidentally took a double dose of eloquence 5 mg should I take my next scheduled dose or stupid ## If anyone accidentally took more than prescribed, I would encourage you all to contact your prescribing doctors. It may turn out that you'll be fine, but he/she may recommended some minor adjustments in your dosing or frequency of administration in order to compensate for this extra dose (not to mention that the prescription ...

I accidentally took my meds twice this morning. It was 5 mg eliquis, 125 mg digoxin and 40 mg sotalol. My question is should I skip meds tonight? ## The biggest concern here is actually the Eliquis, since it could cause an increased risk of bleeding/blood thinning. How are you doing? Did you experience any adverse side effects? Any time this happens you should go to your nearest ER or consult your nearest urgent care to be safe.

I was scheduled for a laminectomy because my spinal stenosis had become so painful that it was even causing horrible cramping / muscle spasms all around my lower legs and feet. I was forced to sleep sitting up with my feet on the floor or the cramping would eject me from my bed. Because I was in a seated position and not moving for many hours, I developed DVT in my left leg. I should also note that my feet and ankles were extremely swollen but this is a common side effect of Amlodipine which is a PB med. Also, even though no DVT was detected in my right leg, I was having pain in my right calf that was getting progressively worse until after three days I needed a cane to walk. I was put on Eliquis 10 mg twice a day and within three days the swelling in my feet and ankles has completely d...

I've been taking Xarelto and noticed when I switched to 20 mg once a day my bowels changed. Anyone had any bowel changes? ## I'm 41 and on no other medication and just completed a 3 month cycle of anticoagulants for provoked PEs after a long plane flight. Xarelto 15mg twice daily for first month, followed by Xarelto 20mg once daily for 1.5 months followed by Eliquis 5mg twice daily for two weeks. I should have switched from the Xarelto much earlier as I had horrible side effects including severe episodes of weakness (which sent me to ER three times), dizziness, tingling in hands and feet, anxiety, and GI issues m. It was definitely a bit of a poison to my system. One of the side effects of the 20mg was that it tore up my GI tract which included altered bowels. I've never had...

I'm 46 female diagnosed with afib in 2013 I am on fecanide and metoprolol 25 mg for afib. And now eliquis 5 mg twice a day, I had an afib Cryo ablation done Oct 9th I came out of the surgery coughing and with chest tightness. I have had every possibly test done to try to find out why I can't stop coughing and why I'm having a hard time breathing and all have tests have been negative except tne pulmonoligst says I have a very very small levels showing reactive airway and put me on 500:advair. I went to the pharmacist today who told me metoprolol is a beta blocker and can cause cough and breathing issues. Although I didn't have this side effect taking metropol before the procedure is it possible to get it after coming out of the procedure. I have never had Ashthma and I di...

After an ablation I had a monitor on for 30 days. The doctor said I had Afib and put me on 100 mg of flecainide twice a day plus 5 mg of eliquis twice a day. I seem to be having constipation problems. Plus blood in rectal area which could be from something else as I have had that problem before. ## Hi Nancy, Sorry to hear about your situation. From what I could gather, "red or black, tarry stools" are listed as a side effect of Eliquis (Apixaban) on medlineplus.gov. "Black, tarry stools" + "constipation" + "blood in the urine or stools" are all listed as side effects of Flecainide on nih.gov. It sounds to me like either medication could potentially be the culprit, but I would encourage you to contact your doctor about this just to be on the safe side. Hop...
